Turn the clock back to the 1990s on the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad. The SD9s predominate on the main line. The line to Ontonagon was still in operation. See it in video (oh the sound of those SD9s!) and stills.

Nice to see those SDos rolling through the woods back when they reigned supreme. Really appreciate the footage of the Baldwin idling. It sure looked on with all those blue box cars which were repainted at Wells and then relettered for Mississippi Delta MSDR

Ya, those SD's made a cool sound. And I have been racking my brain why I didn't chase the Baldwin back to Menominee that day!

Thank you so much. I'm modelling ELS but live in Europe. This stuff is 'golden' for a guy like me, just to get the feel of the railroad. Don't think I've ever seen locos and stock literally rocking and rolling quite as much as they seem to on ELS track, lol. Thanks again.

Wow - ELS in Europe!! Glad to add to your knowledge.

Awesome video. This is the way the E&LS should be today - being able to run at speed, the track looks well maintained, the use of the branch line from Crivitz to Marinette, and the use of Baldwins and SD9s.
@killerbee63102 ай бұрын
Yep. Glad I had a little foresight to capture it on video, even if 8mm wasn't the greatest. But with ELS then the audio was equally as much important.

That was cool seeing all that old stuff and was one of those last shots E. L. S. 600 and whatever happened to that one I miss seeing it every now and then

Great video. Sure wish someone would have thought to video ELS when they were running all those Baldwins.

Ya. I still don't know why I didn't chase the Baldwin from Crivitz back to Marinette the day I saw it at Crivitz. Instead I followed the SD9s down to Green Bay. (What a decision to make!)

Awesome video ! This is what I want to see, railroading from the old era of the 90's. The E&LS has always been one of my favorite shortline's and this video provides an excellent glimpse into a gone but not forgotten past. Nice video and pictures in this one. 😁👍🏻

I can remember them old sd9 when I used to go up and visit my grandmother in iron mountain I'd see the train come through and those sd9 were still running and that was late yeah late 90s early 2000s wonder if they still have them

It looks like the railroad had a lot more engines back in the day. Now, they only run 4.
@pgl64612 ай бұрын
Back in the day they ran out of Green Bay 6 days a week. They ran between Crivitz and Marinette/Menominee at least five days per week. Ran between Channing and Ontonagon I think 5 days per week. 5 SD9's, two GP38's and a few switch engines, two EMD and a couple of Baldwins.
@pgl64612 ай бұрын
Forgot Crivitz-Channing. Not sure if that was 5 days or 6 per week back in the 90's.

5:30 heckuva long horn blow……
@killerbee63102 ай бұрын
He was actually blowing for a road crossing behind me - you can just barely hear him let off the horn a slight bit now and then. But instead of a good crisp long, long, short, long, he did kind of slur it all into one long blast yes.
