Some things I’ve learned since I started hunting elk: Movement cannot be understated. Sometimes all it takes is an ear twitch to see something youd have otherwise missed. Learn to look through trees and bushes, and not at them. Speed = noise. Never walk in the open if you’re being serious, always check open areas with your binos before going aound their edges. List goes on. You get the idea. Oh and use your nose. Believe it or not, you can smell things like elk if you know what to look for.

Another thing you might want to mention is not to look directly at an object at night. Look just to the side of the object to get better definition. I have yet to be able to move through the woods without sounding like a stampeding herd of yaks. Hope you have some more on noise, litter and light discipline, cover and concealment. Saw the first episode of Grunt Proof Survival Games this morning. Very cool.

There's also something to be said for that 'feeling' you get when someone is watching you. Looking directly at a target is often frowned upon as this feeling is a real thing that a target can often sense. This is more the art versus the science but good to keep in mind

I'm a Marine that crossed over into the Army. During every field op I ever did, I was always picked to be OPFOR. Slow, deliberate movements are better than speed. Listen and smell just as much as you look. Find a good mud puddle and get saturated. Move quickly under cover of sound. This goofy hand signals work when you're with a team. Vegetation and range are your friends.

The human eye recognizes a monochrome image then fills in the colors. The rods form the monochrome, the cones, the color. Motion is first recognized in monochrome. That's why we're sensitive to it. (IFF is done in monochrome) Sound also indicates what kinds of things your stepping on and what kind of trail your leaving. If you're breaking lots of twigs you might as well paint a center line too Love the vid!!!!

I love your comment about solid subdued colors! I don’t hate camo, but in a semi urban environment, solid colors make me more of a grey man that still can go in the field and disappear, while not looking too much like a ninja comando in town. Great instruction! I miss the days of playing “hide and seek” in ROTC to train for E&E

I always wear natural colors, I couldn't tell you now many people walked up to me unaware I was only a few feet away. Being Native I have darker brown, red skin, helps me naturally blend in as well. I made a woman jump becaue I was behind a giant tree with a fallen tree around it, they didn't see me until I walked out. So yes, natural colors are very effective.

Learning how to avoid being seen and heard, but also how to see and listen. Without going into retinas, cones, etc you should never look or scan directly ahead, but move your eyes in a "infinity"♾️ search pattern. In cold weather keep your mouth covered to mask your "breath" and/or suck on snow to reduce the temperature of the breath you exhale, lessening it's "picture".. Listening while holding your breath and releasing it quietly aids in reducing your sound and helps with hearing. If you know you're going to be in a situation like this, don't use scented soap, aftershave, deodorant, freshly laundered clothes... those are easily picked up on. Excellent production Stoker !

I’m sure that my best efforts will be outmaneuvered. For example, I didn’t realize how noisy certain polypropylene fabrics are, especially with tactical pants. Can’t be stealthy when your thighs are shouting “shoosh, shoosh...”! Also, you need to be able to outmaneuver infrared scanning. Having a wool/Mylar body length suit or bag may be the difference in successful evasion.

As far as hunting, in archery I used good ol' army cammo and the facepaint . I did a base layer of the lighter green, then put dots and different sized lines at different angles. W/ a cammo ball cap. I was archry hunting on the ground about 40 yards off a game trail. I was also only about 80 yards from the one entrance to this hillside. I knew there was another hunter on this hill. I was hoping he would spook a buck towards me. A few hours later, the other hunter came from the other side of the hill heading towards his truck where he parked just outside the entrance I said about earlier. I thought he would walk about 50 yards past me but here he was coming right for me. He got within 5 yards of me and I jersey my bow. It scared the crap outta him!! Lol. I thought he seen me send just came to talk. My bow was solid black w/ no cammo. My point is that the hunting cammo is great if it matches your surroundings. But the reg. Basic ol' Army woodland cammo is much more versital I'm my opinion.

I had a guy I think was an anti walk into my hunting stand area. He looked at me from a distance then started wandering around with a metal detector. When he wasn’t looking I slipped away and sat by the top of the 4X road he was coming up. I sat against a tree with my head down so he couldn’t see my face. Old school woodlands clothing. He was looking for me. When he was about 10’ feet from me I asked how he was doing. Should have seen him jump! 0351 USMC.

Great overview Top on E&E basics… it takes discipline to overcome the natural tendencies of taking the path of least resistance when conducting movements . You also don't want to grab ahold of small trees and saplings while climbing hills and such. A small movement down at the height of your hand will make a huge movement at the top of that sapling or small tree. Anything looking in your direction can see the tree canopy perfectly still or moving in unison while one particular tree is moving erratically and out of place is clearly a sign of someone climbing a hill using trees for support and to help with the climbing.

If you're trying to hunt on the cheap and don't want to spend a lot on camouflage clothes try clothes that are colored like the area you're in. I tend to wear a woodland camo bandana laid flat over my head so it hangs off my shoulders and secured with a dark brown headband and my clothes are usually dark brown pants and a brown shirt. With that attire I'm able to sneak up on rabbits close enough to grab them. Camo doesn't have to be complicated to be effective.

SOCOM veteran here. I like to look at the entire area I will be operating in, which may also include small villages and towns. Regions have vastly different architectures with different colors, so finding a camo pattern and color that works as a good medium platform to build off of is indispensable. I can touch up in my environment, but if I'm in Eastern Europe for example, going from woods to rubble of a village or military outpost made mainly from concrete ruins is a vastly different palate to work within. Having something that gives you a solid base to move between biomes and customize on the fly, along with gear choice like double-sided light/dark netting, can make all the difference in the world.

I was in a predicament one time where I was hiding in the woods and the bad guy was getting closer to my hiding spot. I was in a dried creek bed horizontal to his direction and I had two choices, I could’ve either stayed there and hope he didn’t walk right up on me. Or I could quickly and quietly bent down run down the creek bed to more bushes about 50-100 feet to his left... I ended up doing that, because I didn’t want him close enough to grab me if he saw me. Whether he heard me or not, and wether it was a good decision or not, I escaped. I made it to the bushes and looked back he was just standing there swiveling his head. Like he heard something but wasn’t sure from where. And then he eventually turned back and left... idk what you were supposed to do in an instance like that but what I did possibly saved my life...

Commercial hunting camouflage does not work, with the exception of A.S.A.T. camo. It does work in all seasons and all terrains, but it's not practical for every day wear. You definitely stand out wearing it. Personally, I prefer solid natural earth tone clothing that matches the terrain. It's the most effective and can easily be adapted to your surroundings with foliage, etc., from the environment. Also, break up your camo by wearing different patterns. Ex. Woodland on top and tiger stripe on bottom. Different camo patterns lend to blending in with you surroundings.

to the trained eye I found you in less than 2 seconds (enough time for a full picture scan), you were the only tree that had a buldge on it. Pretty easy to see for the trained eye. I may sound egotistical but make no mistake your trained enemy will find the basics extremely easy. A good stalker, camouflage and concealment practice will reward any hunter with the best food or stalker with the easiest Kill.

hide during the day, holding still. Move only at night. If you dont have NODS, night sight, and silencer and subsonic ammo OPTION for your rifle. The best deal is 60 gr subsonic 22 ammo from Aquila and a CMMG 22lr conversion unit for a shorty 223 AR-15, 1 in 9" rifling twist. .Get a $6000 college loan and buy some, along with a helmet, counter weight, and mounting bracket that swings the NODS up out of your way. The payment on 6k of school loan is $50 per month. You can make $50 per hour, once per week, selling your plasma. So you can pay off the night vision stuff in a couple of years with almost no change in your life. Saving 40c per shot for your snapshooting practice pays off the silencer and .22 unit in less than a year.

@@ChandlerWhite-wk5pp I most certainly agree accruing knowledge 😉. I would have to declare War on the U.S. Government if I went to our border. Don’t have that fire 🔥 power. Our Government has went Communist… There will be another Civil War hear in America 🇺🇸… I’ll be in this one for sure. Until then stay frosty 🥶

Umm, Dude, camouflage is concealment. Now Cover and Concealment are both two of the best force multipliers a warrior needs to master. Both can be used together for the best possible outcome of remaining undetected and allowing you to either choose the time and place to make contact with your enemy or the preventing of contact. They allow you to drastically increase your chances of escaping and evading to either friendly forces territory or maintaining your evasion until you locate an environment that is more advantageous towards you. Especially if the enemy holds fire superiority, a larger number of personnel, readily accessible support elements, a QRF on "stand by" and you must make contact with your enemy and incapacitate or annihilate the patrol searching for you. So before you can go any further, you have to lose your tails or take em completely off the board. Unless you prefer opening yourself up to your enemy's line of sight. Cover is any solid object, item, material, or anything you can place between your body and the enemy's muzzle. Preferably cover will stop whatever rounds might be sent your way. Concealment is where you use camo paint, dirt, mud, animal scat or small shrubbery and grasses punched through holes in your clothing. In an urban environment you have to get creative with what you use as concealment. A rifle toting shrub walking down a street would not be an intelligent form of concealment. Slip on the local mechanics coveralls, smear used grease and old engine oil all over you. Ise the image of a mechanic to conceal the warrior underneath the grease and grime. Study your environment before the mission. It allows you to gain more knowledge to better conceal your body and your WEAPONS! Even while wearing the best ghillie suit you can stitch together. Yet just the slightest glint of metal from a small scratch on your rifle , or using a scoped rifle without capping or shading the front lens to prevent reflection of light as you glass your targets. You can utilize stationary or mobile forms of cover. After settling the best cover position you can locate, begin applying Concealment measures to all exterior surfaces of your cover. You want your enemy to either walk right past your ass unnoticed, or do such a great job using the environment to conceal your cover and position. You want their eyes to slide right over your hide. But, this is a damn good vid . It is pumped full of all kinds of excellent survival/combat information that might just save your life someday.

And there is a 3rd type of camouflage, i.e invisibility itself. By reflecting light around an object, rather than reflecting it back.

If you are actually escaping and evading humans you must move quick especially if they have dogs. Must get out of the 25 mile perimeter as soon as possible. After you outside the 25 mile perimeter you must stay away from cameras and facial recognition. Wearing a covid mask sunglasses and a hat will help you if you have to interact with other people.

1. Spray paint all your nylon gear. Nylon is bad about shine. 2. Move straight in or out, from target. It's harder to pick up movement. 3. If seen move out in a 45 degree. Your harder to follow with the eyes. Because you are putting more distance and lots of brush between you. The hypotenuse of a triangle. 4. Try to plan your movements so the sun is in your enemies or pursuers eyes. 5. Be mindful of your watch, scope, weapon light, and binocular for reflective light. 6. Soak your new clothes in muddy water. It helps them blend in better. 7. No velcro. You can burn it with a cigarette lighter. Just to name a few.

Escape and evasion is the wrong words for this. I won several e and e sniper tournaments in the British army I won all of them be going slower than my opposition. 5 meters a day if needed. 0 meters if enemy close. Its movement and shape that will give you away. Should just call it evasion

The human eye works thus: We see movement first, then shape, then color, in that order. There is no other way our eyes and brain work than this. This is why snipers will spend hours moving s couple of feet, just to remain undetected.
