Very, very well done. Carpenter should have never cut this scene. Really lends itself to the overall darkness of the film.

Morgan Storey he had to. Audiences at the time on screen tests were confused, so he cut it
@JaySports6445 жыл бұрын
@@MrCarpen7er Plus it gave away his humane side that we see at the end with Cabbie, Brain and Maggie's eventual death, when he begs her to keep moving. He unwraps like an emotional onion throughout the movie and his dismay at Taylors death would have spoiled that. Good scene never the less.
@carlogiga5 жыл бұрын
The scene is wonderful, but removed due to a simple reason: for making Snake's character more darker, presenting him in the scene where he is chained and then he talks with Hauk. Introducing Snake at this point was perfect to create more tension (in my opinion, obviously).

This was incredible!!! I don't know why they deleted it. I must have seen escape from New York over 50 times. Literally this is the first time I've ever seen this. They should have put this in right after they ran the opening credits

The thing that always stuck out in this movie for me was it's main score theme. I haven't watched this movie in decades but that theme is still fresh in mind. 80's films did have some catchy scores.

It's John Carpenter, the director. He also wrote the music. His style is very individual

Agreed. I watched EFNY a million times when it first aired on HBO in the early 80's. It definitely felt something was missing at the beginning.
@romero3294 жыл бұрын
The scene humanizes Snake too much. And makes him seem like a dummy for escaping on a subway car that could easily be tracked. John Carpenter and Kurt Russell agreed that this sequence detracts from the overall story.
@brionbraziel79683 жыл бұрын
Absolutely goddamn right, it should have stayed. It shows his loyalty and later why they needed him, balance, and integrity of instincts of survival. Still human, hates the system of humans.

I do like though how with this version he starts and ends the movie by basically saying "I'm too tired" in different contexts, lol. He says it to Taylor about counting the money, and he also says it to Hauk at the end of the movie about being too tired to kill him, comes full circle ;)

This is the way I always watch "Escape from New York"; first I look up the deleted scene and then start the movie. I really hope they'll update the movie eventually; with this opening-scene, more modern computer screens at the police headquarters, and maybe (just maybe) remove the year completely and say something like "7 years from now"...

I don't mind it being alternate universe and set in 97 with 80's tech (there was a war with Russia going on in this timeline after all). I would like a better explanation for the lack of a nuclear war though. You read a timeline history on this series and it says something like "and everyone decided not to". That works up until someone's losing...

If someone accused Plissken of worshiping the Dark Lord, he'd light a smoke, smile and say "Dark lord of what?" Snake is CLEARLY an atheist, and certainly not the type to worship any higher power. He is an island unto himself. He'd 'Texas switch' the Necronomicon with a vintage copy of Col. Rex Applegate's KILL OR GET KILLED and say to Satan "You better start reading...your gonna need the edge, asshole."
