I totally get your point (and agree) about the packaging for expansions. I think that could extend to packaging for all board games in general. In fact, I think it could be further expanded to packaging for most anything. However, far too much time was spent on this mini rant; I found myself repeatedly fast forwarding trying to find the spot that you move on. This is your channel and your video, and I even agree with your point, but I wanted to give you a some feedback and let you know that the length of your point detracted from the video.

Packaging is something that is ultra important to me, so I spend a lot of time talking about it across many videos. Thanks for the feedback, though, but I'll keep soldiering on until something changes. :)

Yes, they sold a "collector's box" with the Kickstarter. It's indeed unnecessarily large, mostly to fit the four neoprene mats (also completely unnecessary; this isn't a complex game to set up or track).

Thanks, Daniel. I agree with your suggestions about the need to eliminate unnecessary packaging. I love the artwork in the expansions. Very cool expansions!

The optional big box is awesome both on the shelf and on the table - obviously you can fit the core game & expansions - but it also houses all of the playmats, health monitors (dials), and extra books you can get from them. All in all, if you like the game, going all in on the game is something I don't regret. 😎

Just unpackeded and put all 3 expansions in the base Dark Sector box last night! Looking fwd to playing with the new stuff asap.

All three expansions do fit in the original box? Did you need to remove anything?

This just caught my eye at the game store today. Your channel drew my eye to appreciating this style of one-pass, pen /pencil, zine style aesthetic for games.

Had to check out the first review before watching this one, and it is going on my wish list now. I freaking love the art style in this game. Lt. Xaree looks exactly like a Silurian for Doctor Who. And nice seeing the Stargate as well. The idea about somehow transporting yourself to the dark castle would be a fun little home brew rule sunless the creators came out with their own version. I do have to agree with the bit about packaging too. I’ve gotten some games that could easily come in boxes a quarter of the size.

I am right there with you on the packaging stuff. We need to be more mindful about how we spent all those limited resources. And quite frankly most of the time I am just disappointed in how little content is packed into huge boxes. I know the sellers do this so they can overcharge on what amounts to a pack of cards. Those business practices are shady and need to stop anyways.

Just picked up mission pack 1: Forbidden Tech. Have yet to crack it open but it looks like it adds a lot of new items to the game. Looks interesting to me. The difficulty level is really ramped up in Sector. My friends and I have a pretty solid win rate with Castle but really have not done well in Sector. By the time you reach the boss, most of the time, you are barely able to handle them. Seems really hard to heal in this game. Once you hit a downward spiral it is pretty much game over from there. Not sure if it is due to lack of healing items, rough chapter cards, or the new combat mechanics. Maybe a mix of all three really. Still a really fun game none the less.

I still keep the expansion boxes of the Escape the Dark Castle to keep bits and bobs. So the boxes with beautiful art still have some use. :) Likewise, I need to return to Escape the Dark Sector more. I skipped the expansions but now they became available in retail, it's tempting. But the expansion cards are really problematic, because they have a different length, if you have the base game from the 1st printing. Those dice! Similar to Rory Story Cubes, even just keeping the dice in hand and looking at them makes me excited (okay, okay, I like dice, alright..).

Still waiting for my copy. I pre-ordered from the website after missing the KS. Hm… I should contact them. And yes, I also ordered the huge collector’s box, mostly for the expansion they packaged together with it.
@jonathana62982 жыл бұрын
I just received my copy yesterday. I’m happy to report that all expansions and collector’s box content will fit into the base box (without sleeves). Initial reaction is that this game is nearly perfect. I might have to write my first BGG review for this game, and write it as a compare & contrast review, with all the issues I had with Castle. It addresses a lot of the issues I had with the original design in Castle.

I appreciate your environmental approach. It looks like you are choosing to take advantage of your exposure/influence to make the world a little bit better as far as you concern, and there is nothing obvious about it. And on another matter, much less important though, I think you should (at least) try out a couple of titles - 1. Space Infantry: Resurgence 2. X-Odus Two caveat: - Those aren't cheap games. (Not so expensive as well) - While the first title is reachable, X-odus is really hard to find this days. According to the publisher, they will return to this title once they will end up with their current one ( Fractal: Beyond the Void ).

Hey, I have a question for you. So, I've been looking at picking up one of these types of small box adventure type games. My choices are between Spire's End, Escape the Dark (Sector or Castle), Iron Helm, Tin Helm, and Desolate. Which of these would you recommend, or how do they compare against each other. Thank you in advance and keep up the great work with your channel!
@TheDungeonDive2 жыл бұрын
I've got videos covering all of those in detail, except for Desolate. So my advice to be to watch those, and then choose the one that most appeals to you. There are too many variables to properly answer that question, and all of the topics would be covered in the videos. Quickly I would say if for solo play, and you are buying all of the expansions, Iron Helm. For group play with a party vibe, Dark Castle.
@MrN0b0dy852 жыл бұрын
@@TheDungeonDive fair point. I am looking for a solo experience, since I don't have a group to game with.
@TheDungeonDive2 жыл бұрын
For purely solo I would look at Iron Helm or Rogue Dungeon.

In regards to your bowed cards, I recently discovered some of my game cards were bowed. After some investigation, I found the room that I stored them had a rather high humidity level! I put a dehumidifier in their asap!

Tiny/no packaging is good in theory, but as far as sales go, having a box your potential customer can pick up and look at is going to win 9 times out of 10 when it comes to purchasing something in a store or even online. At a store, if there is a nice fancy box with cool art work and a plastic bag with some parts sitting on the shelf next to each other, which product do you think people are going to look at first? Initial impressions are super important and a well done box is going to have a huge leg up a a not so well done one. A lot of people, myself included, would at least pick up the professionally done box over a not so well done. I'm also sure there are countless studies that prove this. If I'm purchasing a game online from the author and I'm familiar with the game, Im going to be a lot more lenient on this, but normally I want something that's going to sit on my shelf that I can see at a glance. I've done a ton of PnP over the years and unfortunitly most get played when first created and then get packed away in an indistinguishable bag or box and never thought of again because of just thing. A year or two will go by and I'll be putting away another PnP game I printed up and I'll come across the box full of bags and then remember Oh yea, that game was cool.

Well you have nothing to worry about. :). No one who can make a difference is going to listen and side with me on the issue.
@JJ-ze6vb2 жыл бұрын
Have to say your reasoning is very flawed. Since most games are sold online now, there’s really no need for extravagant and big packaging. Why ship an almost empty box? I actually find your seller centric way of thinking morally bankrupt. It’s like asking “why trying to save a habitable planet for our children when big empty boxes sell better?” It just doesn’t make any sense.
@AlarianDarkwind2 жыл бұрын
@@JJ-ze6vb I think you answered your own question. "big empty boxes sell better" If you want to stay in business and be as profitable as possible, more sales is better than less sales. The more sales you make the cheaper it is to produce your product and the more money you can make. If your business is saving the planet, that's one thing, but if your business is making money you have to use a different outlook. Different strokes for different folks is what I say. I like things my way and your free to like things your way judgement free. I removed part of what I said because it wasn't very constructive.
