The 1st home was quite lovely, beautiful layout and nice budget but the mystery house really stole the show.

I do wish they wouldn't always ask if they want to see the house ....... what on earth are they there for?!! Have many people said, 'No thank you'? !!

Kirstie and Phil have had a few people who have looked at a house from the outside, looked around at the street/neighbourhood and seemed utterly depressed and they've said, 'Do you you want to go in?' or 'I can see you don't want to go in.' And they don't go in. Or they tell them, 'You are not buying this house - we understand that. But I think you should go in and look around to see what your budget buys you in this town.' They use it as a learning opportunity for the couple to get a sharper focus on what they can afford, and sometimes the couple goes in and sees that the house is really nice and livable inside, but they can't get over the location, so they have a sharper sense of what they want and what their priorities are (street and neighborhood become more important than they said at first, for example). This show is just about showcasing a part of England and showing off some 'nice' houses. You don't get them showing builder-standard houses here - they are not in a city or looking in housing estates, of course. But there ARE just simple, boring, practical bungalows that some of the aging couples on this show actually need, and instead they are shown houses with three levels and seven bedrooms and two winding staircases, requiring huge amount of upkeep and impossible for anyone to age in place in a wheelchair or using a Zimmer frame, etc. This show is entertainment, not real house-hunting by professional house-finders.

21:29 Look at the layout. What is the point of two en-suite bedrooms at the top of the plan? If people have their own entrance, but all the space they have is a bedroom and a toilet, they are basically confined to their room unless they want to go outside and enter the main house. No visible bathroom or WC on the main floor - unless the 'utility and boot room', which seems to be accessible from the outside as well as the inside, is actually a WC? There is so much wasted space, for example in that useless entrance hall that's just really a corridor and at the top of the stairs - stairs that are absurdly narrow (one person wide), when they could have used the same acreage in the entrance area to have a much wider, more gracious and convenient staircase. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the living room, and through the kitchen and hall to get to the stairs (and - if it is a WC - the WC). To move food from the kitchen to the dining room, you have to carry it through the entrance hall and around the stairs; that needs to be a study, not a dining room. What makes architects think that having to step down into a living room, step up to the hall, step down into the kitchen is practical or safe for anybody at any stage of life? It's impractical if you've got toddlers; it's impractical for elderly people; it's impractical for handicapped people; it's more likely to result in guests making a mis-step and falling. It's a complete MESS. Yet this house was supposed to have been built just before the year 2000, and was built in such a bizarre and impractical and unworkable way. It's like they wanted to include all the things that make 'character properties' uncomfortable and inconvenient: a layout that turns the whole house into a long corridor, narrow stairs, wasted spaces, rooms on the same floor being on different levels. Stupid design and wasteful. Oh, and that kitchen is butt-ugly.

Why they don't say which house they ended up buying ???

Because the homebuyers didn’t let them know! The couples always say they’ll let them know how things go, but many don’t.😢 If you hear,” If you’d like…”, then you know there’s no information from the house hunters.
