I’ve had some great memories at Salt Springs when I was a kid, and even in recent years. We used to camp up there on Lake Kerr. The place is still there, but it’s a different name now. We used to belong to Coast-to-Coast, which was a nationwide camping club. Alexander is beautiful, but I haven’t been there since 2011. Rock Springs is the bomb, but it can get crowded. The Ninja Turtles were my favorite as well. I even saw the most recent movie…lol. There are 1,100 springs in Florida, and that’s not including sinks. I really like the ones that most people don’t know about…or are harder to access.

Haha that's awesome! All of the springs can get crowded now, at least the ones that are easy to access. Still worth it though. Thanks for watching smile 😁 🐢 🥷🏽

Love those parks! As you discussed costs and noted some as "pricy" one think that caught me by surprise at Alexander Springs (and presumably Salt Springs) is that the National Park and Recreation Area passes are not valid. As the ranger explained to me, the Ocala National Forest with its various recreation parks is not part of the National Park Service. Rather, it is a different governmental department - US Department of Agricultural Forest Services. I didn't get in for free, but the daily rate isn't bad for what you get!
@EatSeeRV2 ай бұрын
Yes it's not a part of the National Park Service, but the Ocala National Forest! We tried before too. $13 per person is pretty expensive, think if you had a family of four, that's over $52 just to get in vs. Kelly Park which was $3 per vehicle regardless of people.

The Florida springs are the life source for the whole State. Without the springs, FL would just be a big, dry limestone rock bordered by sand. They're beautiful and need to be protected.
@EatSeeRV4 ай бұрын
Agreed! 💯
@321gates4 ай бұрын
This is entirely not true. Our springs are a result of random aquafers and are not representative of FL's aquafers as a whole.

They tie into the Florida aquifer but have different spring sheds.

The springs are awesome. We spend a couple of months in the Ocala area in the winter. We also learned how to play mexican train there. I saw your travel map. Are you headed to Nova Scotia? We live on Cape Breton Island. You really should come this far and do the famous Cabot Trail. Maybe we will see you on the road. We have a seasonal site in Baddeck. Love love love Silver Springs but would never consider swimming no matter how clear and beautiful it is. The manatees are so cool to watch but too many gators that don't seem to be afraid of people, felt weird enough paddling by them in a kayak. Are there any springs you guys consider too dangerous to swim in? Do you take any precautions???

Pretty, for sure, but I'll stick to the wayyyyy less crowded and free Boondocking out West (including floating the Payette, Buffalo, and Snake rivers). Oh yeah........the UpSide app is a joke out here. I think the best I ever saw what 5cents per gallon. I travel for work and put 1000mi a week on my truck. The gas station discounts are better for me. My 36ft travel trailer is fully stocked with pots/pans and real dishes. I also tossed in a counter-top dishwasher, vacuum, and tools so that I'm not having to take stuff from my house all the time.
