Escapist summery voyage log

Let's go back to June ‘19 for a classic crankathon along the Calder & Hebble, starting in Brighouse and finishing up in Sowerby Bridge all in West Yorkshire. We're joined once again by Crank It Crew producer Holly, who is moving her boat nearer her home town of Halifax, her boyfriend Rory and her dog Sky - all of whom you can find posting as @narrowboat_moonlight on instagram. The action takes place not far from where I’m currently co-isolating with my girlfriend and her daughter but seems so long ago in terms of the freedom of going out on the canal... and visiting Pubs of the Week!

Can't believe the calder and hebble looked so great ,travelled it last October in miserable weather ,a most miserable place in deed . Stay safe rob probably less folk where you are than on the tow paths at the moment. Like being moored on the bloody high street.

What a timing. Had to think back to our holiday hiring from Sowerby Bridge lately. That time we also had restriction, albeit not as extensively as now. There were places along the L&L we were not allowed to go or had to stay on the boat. Locks and bridges were operated by BW staff. It was the time of the Foot & Mouth disease.

All those towns around there are fantastic places to visit or stay. Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse, Mirfield.. ok, maybe not Mirfield. The Navigation Tavern in Mirfield is good though! A proper pub.
