ESEE Heavy Cleaver..

ESEE Cleaver.. 700g (Skrama is 500g to compare) So you dont need speed for power and gain a lot of precision... Great for cooking of course but also interesting outdoors.. I've been using this one mostly for cooking, but will take soon for camping.. Originally all black sabre grind (scandi + scandi) this one has been turned into a Scandivex (scandi + microconvex) as I though the acid black treatment of the blade was bleeding too much on the food I took it off the first 3cm of the blade as you can see, also convex is from far my favourite grind..

During my year in China, the cleaver was the cutting tool I saw used the most other than small folding pocket knives.

Love it for cooking but I discover it outside and its cleaning paths in dense forest pretty good for the size I have to say.. I like that its so heavy so you dont have to take too much speed for the same power and gain with precision.

Yes and good for the food prep indeed, but the black treatment of the blade need to be taken off like on this video as its bleeding on the food and the ESEE doesn't want to give infos on it so who knows how toxic..

I regrind it to convex and took off the first 3 cm of black oxide what ever it is, its not bleeding anymore :) iam fine now, thanks for the advice.. what is heat treatment in ashes helping with you think?

@@BushcraftSweden oh no not for changing the condition of the steel, no, don't make it too hot.. no just to get rid of the paint. When we have an axe or splitting axe with a broken handle, we just put it into ambers. The remaining wood smolders from the head with no problem. Even the wedge can be reused.. done that many times and it doesn't chance the steel.. but i see a plastic handle, so, no go..

Handle is micarta it can take some heat but the black on the blade is some kind of oxidisation of the steel, or acid, or something else so heating is not gonna take it off..

Looks really bad ass but its an expensive piece of kit I tell you and it need to be prepare if you wanna use it for food prep too as I mentioned the black oxide is bleeding on food..
