The hallucinated colossus mindgame was truly next level. Zest knew that Serral would figure out that it was a fake. Because he had denied all of Serral's scouting information with his phoenix play, and because of how this map is laid out, the only scouting information Serral was able to get was from the robo at the front. You can see him checking to see if its cronoboosting or not and checking to see what comes out. Serral sees colossus (indicates late game), figures out it's a fake (indicates a bluff for space, ie tech development), and then gets blindsided by an attack that doesn't rely on robo at all. Pretty masterful work by zest, he deserves the win

As someone who tries to achieve the best in everything, being a bit below expectation is super frustrating. Back when I was a kid, showing my parents a 70 when I almost always get above 90 is so crushing. Maybe the reason Koreans are always at the top of competitions is partially because of the type of support they get in situations like these. There’s no one to belittle you in times of failure. I’m not familiar with Korean culture, but I simply hate it when some people start saying Serral is no longer as good as he was before and then start disrespecting his efforts. If people are willing to express this publicly against anyone who performs below expectations, I’d say we don’t deserve more winners like Serral.

His 2019, I agree, was meh, but in what we've seen of him so far this year, he is definitely one of the top Protoss. He had an equal economy, there were roughly on the same footing, Zest lost almost all his expensive units which is much harder to recover from as a toss. I think Serral is uncomfortable playing unless he has built up an advantage - he is so used to dominating that he cant scrap out wins from behind.

@@faridmk3707 Doesn't look like equal footing to me. At the moment of the GG, Serral was at around 40 army supply while Zest was at 30. The difference is that half of Serral's army supply is on units still in eggs while Zest's entire army supply is already at his front door knocking. Yes, he can probably still clean those immortals up with his ravagers but the reinforcing zealots and the healthy archon make it nearly impossible. If the game went on Zest could and would definitely pull those immortals back until the ravagers are cleaned up and they would have regenerated shields by the time Serral's 20 supply of roaches starts hatching. The 3 ravagers and handful of lings wouldn't stand a chance against that wall of zealots and a healthy archon. Don't let Serral's 43 army supply fool you. Look at the production tab during the moment of the gg and figure out yourself how little Serral actually had at that time. Even pulling all his drones wouldn't have worked because, again, there's a healthy archon he has no answer for.

All I saw was a clear case of imbalance. I dont care how good ones micro is, a mass roach army must never beat an equal supply army of higher tier units designed to counter said roach army. Not to mention how both the stalker and immortal are trashed by lings as well, the most basic zerg unit

Jay Es the ling part is due to a lack of archons, a necessity for a protoss army, and losing to roaches was solely due to inferior micro. That army beats or pushes back those roaches 9 times out of 10, but rouge was simply better than zest who, frankly, only reached the finals because his semifinal opponent willingly threw game 2.

@@misspurdy27288 I saw that game. Kind of unfortunate. However, if indeed Serral would have won assuming Zest would not have thrown game 2, it would have been a repeat of 2019 with a final ZvZ. My concern is that while I agree with you that archons combined with immortals, zealots and stalker/sentry will push back a zerg army 9/10 times, the toss is required to produce high tier (archons) and medium tier (immortals) to be able to fend off mass low tier zerg units. This is where the imbalance lies. The roach is simply too good for its cost and the ling hard counters 2 of the core early and mid game toss units. ZvP right now is extremely imbalanced towards zerg. Mainly Toss are winning through either cannon rushes or timing pushes with their opponents unaware or tunnel versioned into macro game. An equal skill level toss player will never beat a zerg player in a standard macro game. Toss still has no proper answer to swarmhost/nidus play. This Is mainly because the toss army is too slow to move and its partially by design but still, its a bit too strong

Jay Es I don’t think this is an issue with zerg being stronger, I think this is a problem with how immobile and high-tech toss are. PvP for example, your only real option is pheonix (is that still a thing, or did it change?) And PvT, well that’s a bit more interesting since adepts are pretty okay vs the core terran unit (marines). PvT toss generally have an advantage, just like in TvZ terran generally have the advantage (even if players like serral make it look like that isn’t the case) Personally, I think the immortal needs a slight buildrate buff and/or the toss need a new unit for early AOE. Toss lategame when you have that ball is nigh-unstoppable unless you’re way better than the protoss. Though I will admit they have more trouble reaching it than they should.

I think Serral overthought since his great defeat against Hurricane, and he might thought his playstyle was apprehended. That's why he got ahead so far on 4th game (pretended Zest would do DT rush but actually adept rush), and chose a wrong 'macro' build on 5th game (Zest is really good at macro, better than Stats. And 5th game Zest didn't even macro at all.). It seems that Serral has a slump now. I hope he could mentally recovered on next tournament :)

What are ugly comments. Looks like everyone in comments are pro players and were in semifinals. Some one tells, that it is just luck for Zest and someone that Serral is overrated? What a hell. Both players are great, but Zest did a better game and decisions this year, I guess he made more effort in training last year than Serral. Check other sports and competitions, you can not win all your life, specially each time or something is very inbalance. Even Kepchoge runner is not winning all Marathons, but nice prepared for German path. I Serral want stay in ST, I sure he will change way he play next time and make new show. I have experience to beat 1st player in Cossacks 2 (milord) in my teenage time. It took me a lot of training and practice, sure he was not practicing too much and I was in top 100, not top 10, but each time we played I started win and he was very angry ) I feel same for Zest, he had tartget to go and got it, very nice catch!

What I can't understand is even when both players are good, theses commentators won't shut up about how good serrals is. For them he's the best player ever, even when his ass is handed to him. Feels like these commentators are racially biased, and comments reflects it too.

Zest just never let it get to late game where Serral always dominates with brood/infestor micro, I've noticed almost every single one of Serral's ZvP losses are early-mid game matches

I just used that Adept push(Game 4) to beat a Diamond Zerg. A little different I did not have a prism. I just used a well placed pylon to warp in from. At 5:25 I hit with 10 Adepts with glaives and attack 1 and a few seconds later warped in 8 more. He had Zerglings and 2 Queens.

the missmicro on the banelings that just pooped out when zest attacked him last game was painfull :/ i think he could have defended that attack maybe if he used the bains that pooped out on the first wave of zealots. that would have been all zealots instantly gone maybe even some bainling damage on the archons too. the zerglings / raoches would kill the archons that are like 1/2 dead and than its "only" zealots and phenix.
