High Isle update. Once you talk to shalidor port out to a guild member. At this point u will not have it. Then don't delete the quest find your way back to the portal and u will instantly see the blue cloud where Haskell is. Then simply walk back out the door to tamriel and you will have the blue cloud.

To anyone asking or wondering if this still works it does. What you need to do now is once you get into the very first portal ; you want to progress the quest with shalidor UNTIL you finish collecting the essences. Once you see the step to kill the generals, simply travel to someone outside. Once you've done that go back to your alliance mages guild and go back into the portal and now you should see the aura on your character. Now turn around and go back into the portal to tamriel. Enjoy 🍃

Does work. Just when you port back to a guildmember after the effect comes on in the desert part, it will be off. Just go back to the Mages Guild imto the portal, and right back through the portal. Boom, effect applied

It's important to note, you don't actually get the effect until you talk to Shalidor in the final area of this video. First time through, I left without talking to him and didn't get it.

Hmmm. I really want this on a particular toon. Tried it on another first and it eventually worked. Instead of the effect showing up right away, I had to talk to Shalidor - then teleported, went back inside, the effect was there with Haskal - teleported again and it was persistent. Tried it on the next toon and spent HOURS playing around with it. First toon was in EP, 2nd was in DC. It was NOT working. Tried it on another EP toon and it worked very easily (as above - the first time took many steps to get it right). Tried it on an AD toon and nothing. Figured it was EP so tried it on another EP toon and it DID NOT work. Third toon is a cat. Noticed the first two are High Elves. I had one other High Elf to try in AD but it is too far along the quest tree. tldr - Wondering if the toons that people are getting to work are in EP AND High Elves? One of mine is an arcanist and the other a sorc. I'd play around more but I'm at 20 characters. Just looking for a pattern and adding some insights.

No- there is no way, that I’m aware of, to keep the blue and green orbs after death. You can travel out of the dungeon to a teammate to keep the effect though, rather than exiting through the portal. That used to keep it on. Well, until you died.

Question - can I abandon the quest and still keep the effect or do I have to keep it in my quest log?

I believe you need to keep it in your quest log. I never tried that though. When you abandon it, it stays with you while you’re in the zone you are in, but I’m not sure if it leaves when you travel to another zone. But if you keep it in your quest log, you never have to worry about it.

Mudlup - No not patched. You don’t go through the last portal. You don’t finish the quest. This is imperative (I did say this in the video so people wouldn’t ruin their chances at getting it). Immediately after you see it around your feet (in the desert area) you have to travel out of there right where your standing. But they make it tricky because you can’t pull up the world map. So the way around this is to pull up a friend in your friend roster or select a random guildmate and then travel to them. When you land, you will still have the effect. 😁

@@AreaofEffect I figured it out. I thought that the smoke effect would appear when you enter the desert part of the quest as shown in the video. Turns out you need to talk to Shalidor first for it to show up. Was confused there for a bit since you already had it and didn't mention its required to interact with the mage first.

Excellent question! It should stay because it’s through the discovery of Lorebooks that you level up your Mages Guild Skill Line, not through questing! Even when you purchase the Mages Guild Skill Line upgrade through the Crown Store, you are still able to go through the Mages Guild Quest Line afterwards.

I have a toon that I did this on before the update and it still works. I tried it on a new toon, and it didn't work. I think if you didn't get it before the High Isle update you are out of look. I so badly wanted it on my new toon.
