Leatherique leather care products information/purchase: www.esotericcarcare.com/brands...
This is THE definitive reference article/video on how to properly use Leatherique for leather cleaning, conditioning, and preservation.
Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil, when combined with Prestine Clean, creates the absolute best leather care system in the business. This is not marketing hype, or paid product endorsement...it's fact within the automotive detailing, preservation, and restoration businesses. And not only that, it's been that way since 1968 when it was originally developed by George Pavlisko Sr. George and Leatherique literally wrote the book on leather care and maintenance, and to this day Leatherique is still owned and operated by the Pavlisko family (now by George, Jr.).
We at ESOTERIC have been using the Leatherique system within our detailing studios long before we ever started selling products. We use it on brand new cars to start them off right, we use it to maintain leather and give them a deep cleaning/conditioning, and we use it to preserve museum-quality vintage vehicles as well. We have tried a lot of products in the business, but we choose to use Leatherique because of the quality of the product and the results we consistently achieve. As with the other products you'll find on EsotericCarCare.com, we sell what we use, not the other way around! So when you're making your Leatherique purchase from us, you know that you've got a tremendous amount of experience behind the sale, and we can provide a level of technical support that other resellers simply cannot provide.
Leatherique Rejuvenator and Prestine Clean can be used on any type of leather, new or old. The all-natural product is water based and has no oil in it despite the old-timey name. Leather manufactured within the past 25 years or so does have a protective coating on it, but this coating is water resistant, NOT water-proof! Leatherique Rejuvenator deeply penetrates the hyde to clean and condition the leather.

You've explained and most importantly SHOWN the process much better than Leatherique themselves. Outstanding video and presentation. When I'm ready to purchase some in the next few months (once we're out of the spring time Ice Age here in the north east) I will for sure be purchasing from you. Thank you!

Great video! I’ve had a lot of luck saving this treatment for the summer months. Using the windows up in the summer heat technique (creating a greenhouse effect) really helps release the creases and quickens the soaking process. Heat is your friend for step one. Amazing product for deep conditioning & cleaning.

Thank you for this tutorial, I was told many times about leatherique system and I always been skeptical. I've got 4 years old Nappa leather in pretty good shape as I clean it regularly with APC brush and so on but some area of my front seat never been to my liking so I decided to try LEatherique and oh man I was shocked by the end result when I pulled out the Rejuvenator it came out almost like new. Really worth the money and the process isnt hard at all. Just apply and let it sit over night, then clean it up as shown and done.

Many years ago I bought an old Volvo 960 with leather interior. It was hard like plastic, but no tears. I researched what Rolls Royce owners used on their leather. The Rolls Royce owners club endorsed a product with an odd name called “Leatherique”. I order some of the product as a kit within Prestine clean and Rejuvenating oil. Being my daily driver I was unable to let it sit for more than a few hours at a time, but little by little over time the leather started not only feeling like leather, but having that leather aroma we all love. I am a firm believer in the system. Yes, it’s more involved than just putting some cream on a rag, but you will find the results worth while and so rewarding.

Nice presentation of leatherique process. Have you done aniline leather treatment with leatherique? I wonder if there is a way to keep the crack lines in the coat from getting darker because of the rejuvinator. A lot of owners of volvo s60R/v70R complain that after using leatherique the seats that had some breaks or cracks in the leather turn dark. Thanks

I was always curious about this product largely because of this video. I was speeding a bit the other day and the police took my license away for 6 weeks. I thought to myself this'll be the perfect time to try this product out on my Lexus. So I ordered it and today applied it on the seats. I hope it does a good job! (I hope I did too)

It worked like magic and was easy to do even in cold weather. Some areas of the front seats needed four coats of rejuvenator but still I only used about 150ml for the whole car. The rejuvenator surely is water based as you can get it off your hands with water. That's why I tried to take the rejuvenator off from one seat with only a damp microfiber cloth and I can't tell any difference to the other seats which I cleaned with prestine clean. I'm not so sure what the point of prestine clean is.

hey, Todd. I watched and commented on the video & subscribed to the channel last night. This morning I began thinking about something. If the Leatherique product actually does penetrate into the leather, then how far down can/does it go? My reason for asking is...what about situations when the dash or door panels typically has the leather glued down? What is the possibility of this product penetrating far enough down to the glue and causing future problems? Or is there a different product that you would recommend for those areas, specifically the dash. I have a car which the make & model have a known possibility over time, for the leather dash to dry & shrink around the air vents. The black leather dash which is already 17 years old but still currently in perfect condition due to previously residing in the Midwest and garaged. Currently, and for the past 3 months resides outside, in the "hot as H3LL" Houston area, with a reflective dash/windshield panel plus 2 car covers and vented. Other than trying to further limit exposure to extreme heat & UV rays, how would you recommend to treat and care for such an older, black, leather dash, to keep it somewhat "hydrated", soft and also prevent shrinking and separation from the base? I would definitely appreciate your thoughts on this. (I will also send this message via email in case I don't receive a replay notification from youtube) Thanks!

Great video. I used these product to rework old BMW seats that I dyed a different color. Works amazing. People need to understand that this is not a 10 minute fix the first time they use it as most seats have been neglected or ignored. On the trash bag issue get the clear ones that are out there in the event you need to sit on the seats for a bit. Thank you for taking the time to post as most people wont take the time to read the directions and then wonder what is going on. My leather is amazing after a few soaks of the rejuvenator. Nice point on the water and changing it out as you will be amazed at how much junk is on you seats. This product is to leather what clay bars are to paint!

Hi Todd I had my BMW leather seat covers replaced with new leather covers. The shop that installed them did a good job and they massaged some Lexol conditioner which made the leather very soft and gave the Imola Red leather pop really nice. I have had these covers on since April 2018 and want to preserve them from the start. I would like to know if you would recommend a full leatherique process (Rejuvenator/prestine clean)? The leather that was used for these covers is a bit more rigid and thus after the shop did a massage with some Lexol conditioner, everyone noticed a big difference in the enhanced softness of the leather. I absolutely love it. There is scorching sun which would make a great steam effect for the rejuvenator oil!!! Regards, Mark

@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 7 жыл бұрын
The smaller 16oz bottles should suffice for one application, and you should have extra left over. You'll use a lot more of the Rejuvenator than you will the Prestine Clean, but then you have the Prestine Clean for your maintenance cleaning...

Damn good video! I Leatherique’d my 2012 Accord after I let a water/BCAA mix sit on my perfect leather seats for like two days...the leather is still deformed, but, it does look better than it did. It did a fantastic job cleaning and conditioning the seats...I can’t believe what it did the Audi seat! Esoteric, if you read this, do you feel that if I let the rejuvenating oil sit for like month, with me re applying over when it turns white on the “scar”, it would help? I think I’m cleaning so much I’m taking dye out.

We have taken some seats, and continue to re-apply Rejuvenator for several weeks. It would literally get more product applied every day or so. When it looked like it had soaked in, we would re-apply it. It turned these BMW brick seats into soft, supple leather when we were done, and the owner was absolutely floored with it.

Thanks Jeff. Gyeon Leather Coat definitely has its place as well, and we use it regularly in our shop (we were the original and exclusive importers of Gyeon into the USA). You could always start off with Gyeon, then switch over to Leatherique after some time and miles in the new cars.

Hey guys, awesome video. What are your thoughts in regards to leather specific coatings such as Gyeon Leather Coat/Gyeon LeatherShield when used with the Leatherique Rejuvenation System? Is it needed? Does leatherique itself leave behind enough protection? If you were to install one of these coatings after are there any steps between the cleaning process and coating process to ensure it bonds to the leather?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and glad you liked it. And as for your question, I would use one or the other...not both. There could potentially be a bonding issue if the coatings if you tried to put it on seats that have just been treated with Leatherique.

Yes, you can pull the car outside and roll up the windows to speed up the process with heat. Do not however, try to use hair dryers, heat guns, or other methods though. As for Rupes, they are a family owned company and have been since about 1947.

Just returned from a trip in my Porsche Cayenne GTS and upon returning home found an area on the passenger seat where the leather is hardened and has a flatter appearance than the rest of the leather. Long story short, wife got water on the seat or got it wet somehow and didn’t realize it and it dried. It’s only about 2-2.5 diameter but still...aaargh! Put some Griots leather conditioner on it but clearly think it needs something more. This stuff comes up as one option and another is a pricey kit from leatherdoctor.com which the description and details on it reads like it’s in another language but apparently has like 6 steps/liquids of treatments including some stuff called fatliquor that rehydrates the dried/hard leather. Since this is a fraction of the price, I will likely try Leatherique first.

With really dry or hard leather, just be prepared to continue to apply the Rejuvenator as long as it keeps soaking in. You also may want to repeat the process 2-4 weeks after your initial application as the leather continues to soften for a few weeks after application.

Leather is a natural product, and will therefore get wrinkles or creases that cannot be fixed with a product like Leatherique or other. And consider the Prestine Clean to be an all-in-one (cleaner and conditioner), whereas the Gyeon product is strictly a cleaner. When using Rejuvenator, you want to make sure you are using the Prestine Clean as your follow up and nothing else. Thanks for the feedback.

Greetings I am going to have the driver’s side leather seat of my BMW fully reupholstered and the entire sand colored leather interior repainted in a cinnamon color. I had used the Leatherique conditioner/cleaner on this interior previously and would like to know if i can safely use it again once my interior has been painted/repaired without any discoloration problems. The shop doing this job also puts a clearcoat on the leather once the paint/repair process is complete Regards, Mark

Based on what they are doing, it might be pointless to try. Also, the dye manufacturer / installer would be best to ask that question because there are a lot of different products out there. I've seen some hold up just fine after Leatherique, and some that break down in the process.

Is this still your favorite? If I'm going to use some ColourLock crack filler and sponge applied dye, should I use the Leatherique first to get the leather soft and then a day or two later use the filler/dye? Or should I fill/dye first?

Yes, it is still my favorite and I literally just applied 3 layers to an old Porsche Targa yesterday! You need to check with the manufacturer of the crack filler to see what they have to say about it on which comes first, or if they even think they are compatible.

Would you recommend doing this to leathers that have been coated(Gyeon Leather Shield)? How often do you recommend doing the full system? What happens if you get it on suede?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 6 жыл бұрын
That would be kind of backwards...you want the super deep cleaning with a product like this first, then apply a leather sealant if you find it necessary. It depends on the use of the car, but a time or two per year for most, then maintain it with the Prestine Clean. Try to avoid suede or alcantara as much as possible, but if you do get some on it, it's a water based product so it should clean up relatively easily.

Can you pre-heat the seats (heat gun, hot room, heater etc..) THEN apply oil ? Can you use it on vinyl ? How come you don't clean the seats before rubbing in the oil? wouldnt cleaning it beforehand remove dirty etc.. from the pores allowing the oil to do it's thing and soak in easier ? Does 'gravity' have an effect on how the oil absorbs into the leather ? i.e. should you recline the seat-back ?
@Esotericdetail
@Esotericdetail 7 жыл бұрын
Sure you can, but I don't see a need to. We do not pre-heat seating surfaces, and get stellar results. I would only use the Prestine Clean on vinyl. Sure, you could pre-clean with something like Gyeon Leather Cleaner, but you're just adding an unnecessary step. The Rejuvenator is designed to be a deep cleaner and conditioner.

I used this before on my old Lexus with phenomenal results but now that I have a new model, with perforated/cooled seats, I’ve been worried to use it because I’d be afraid it would all go through the perforations and potentially make the air conditioned seats not work? Any thoughts on this?

You're not going to add anything on this that would be a better conditioner. If you applied to very dry seats, you may want to re-apply after a couple of weeks as the Rejuvenator will continue to soak in and soften during that time.

How long after using Leatherique could you apply Gyeon leather coat? It only makes sense that after restoring worn seats to protect them afterwards. I understand the rejuvinator oil may cause bonding issues, but perhaps after a few weeks then clean with prestine clean again it would be ok to coat? Or would Gyeon leather coat only be applicable to new or in very good condition seats to keep them that way?
@Esotericdetail

I would not try to combine products because you will definitely have bonding issues. The only way you could do it would be to thoroughly clean (again) with plain water, then maybe use Gyeon Leather Cleaner first before applying a leather coating. For me though...I wouldn't do it as I would use one or the other, but not both.
