@@HowardFerrier Weckl's precision is frightening. But unfortunately, in my eyes, it's also somewhat antiseptic. Less is often more. I'm a big fan of Phil Collins and what he played at Brand X. Technically on the same incredibly high level, but not as distant as Weckl.

I mean don’t get me wrong this is really good and creative but taking the Songo to the next level? Sorry don’t agree. Dafnis Prieto,Horacio el Negro Hernández, Robbie Ameen, Julio Barreto and so many other drummers have taken songo to levels beyond what Weckl is doing. Still I give him high praise for his achievements.

Different paths - I think Dave has reached his summit and for him he's happy to sit there and enjoy the view. 🗻
@Infiltrate.and.Betray3 ай бұрын
Dave is smoother now than he's ever been. His Freddie Gruber lessons decades ago definitely marked the big turning point in his total virtuosity, but since then he's discovered even more efficiencies in motor function-hence the smaller motions, bigger bounces, and enhanced relaxation. I feel like his kicks are more out in front of the band now, like he's being edgier with how he pushes and pulls. And his drums have never sounded better. These Yamahas are something else, and he's never been better at getting the most out of them via (1) tuning and (2) playing.
@a5dr33 ай бұрын
I’m not a weckl connoisseur but it seems to me he basically realized his full potential a long time ago. There’s trivial things that might be improved but you’re not going to get much better than you are in your thirties, unless it’s a situation where someone discovered the instrument late in life. After practicing 8 hours a day for 20 years you’ve basically arrived.
@morbidmanmusic3 ай бұрын
I feel the reverse is true. Until Donati stops trying to break every song down to the quantum beat level.. it is just boring counting at that point. He is truly amazing but doesn't always just play the song.
