The Tatum hate is definitely weird, when other players get way more love while having way less team success and defining individual moments Tatum has struggled in big games but it also doesn’t get mentioned enough how many times he’s pulled through and been that guy in crucial games, but the Celtics as a team definitely deserve to be looked at under a hard mircoscope because 5 conference finals in 7 years with only 1 finals appearance and no wins to show for it is underwhelming for a perennial conference finalist, if they don’t win one within these next 2 seasons I think drastic changes will be made with that roster

@@elijahguerrero1490 it's not all about team success, it's alao about how player performs. For example, Tatum has better play off success than Luka. Is he a better basketball player? Hell no😂😂😂 because Luka maybe didn't go still soo far like Tatum in play offs, you know that 99% of the time when his team loses, it's not his fault and he gave everything he had. Wins or lose, most of his games are incredible. While Tatum wins a lot of times when he plays bwd and also his team looses because he is playing bad. So nobody hates him, he simply isn't nearly the best player in the league and that's it🤣🤣nobody is saying that he isn't superstar, but he is top 6 in the league right now at his best.

I think that Tatum's struggles with the media mostly stem from two things. One: he's a very quiet player. There have been times where I've thought, "man, Tatum hasn't really done that much this game," looked at the box score, and seen he had 40. He dominates, but he does it really quietly, so it's hard to think of iconic Tatum moments, y'know? Second, he plays for the Boston Celtics, a franchise that's so storied that if you aren't widely considered one of the most talented individuals to ever pick up a basketball, you're a footnote. So it's hard to think of Tatum as great when he's standing in the shadow of Bill Russell and Larry Bird. At the end of the day, the media doesn't change how good he is. Appreciate his talent while we have the opportunity to watch it.

I've been saying all of this for years now. Truth is, people believe what they want to believe. If anything Tatum tends to start games slow, and then come out swinging later in the game to close things out. That just seems to be his style. Tatum has been huge in the playoffs ever since his rookie year. When he was a 19 year old rookie the Celtics were without Gordon Hayward for the season, then on top of that they also lost Kyrie Irving just before the playoffs began. Every single sports commentator said the Celtics had no hope without Kyrie and would lose in the first round. A 19 year old Tatum stepped up on a huge way and was instrumental in helping to carry that celtics squad all the way to the ECF, where they pushed Lebron's Cavs to something like 6 or 7 games. And you could very easily make the argument that Tatum was the Celtics best player during that stretch (either Tatum or Horford). I also find it funny that people point out the Heat series last year as somethign to hold against Tatum. Look at the game by game stats and it's blatantly obvious that Tatum was THE best player in that entire series. And it really wasn't close. Tatum really only had one bad game in that series up until he suffered the injury at the start of game 7. Butler played absolutely horribly and completely dissapeared in games 4-6, while Tatum never had two bad games in a row that entire series. If there is one criticism I do have of Tatum it's not that he isnt cluch...in fact its kinda the opposite. Tatum has a frustrating tendancy to not show up when the games seem like they are less important. For example, any time the Celtics build a big lead in a serires (2-0,. 3-0, etc) Tatum has a tendancy to disappear the next game - almost like he struggles to find the motivation and goes into cruise control mode. When the games seem like they aren't that meaningful he often doesn't show up. But once the opponnent wins a game or two and the Celtics are back in "must win" territory, then you can immediately see Tatum's motivation peak again and he almost always responds with a monster game. It's for that reason that I expect he would have had a huge game 7 agaisnt the heat last year if not for the injury.
@Ljay96828 күн бұрын
What series was you watching??? Tatum was not the “best player” in that series.. if he was they would never been down 0-3 to begin with… the hell you talking about?
@pete319828 күн бұрын
@Ljay968 He absolutely was. Take a look at the stats, they don't lie For the series tatum averaged 25.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists on 47% shooting. He led the series on both points and rebounds and was second in the series in assists. He finished at a +12 overall for the series if you don't count the final injured game 7 result. He had four 30+ point games in the series, 6 double-doubles and only two games below 20 points (one being the injured game). Butler averaged 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists on 42% shooting. He had zero 30+ point games, one double-double and 3 games below 20 points. Is not even close. Tatum was BY FAR the best player on the series, especially if you ignore the stats from game 7 when he couldn't even walk with an obvious limp. It was Tatum's outplaying of Butler that allowed the celtics to win three straight and come back from a 0-3 hole, and if Tatum didn't get injured in game 7 and the celtics had won the series then the entire narrative would be totally different - everybody would be talking about Butler disappearing in multiple games, getting thoroughly outplayed by Tatum and the embarrassment of being the only team in history to blow a 3-0 lead in the playoffs.

Completely agree with everything u say - great work on JT’s playoff stats. Steven A has never been a fan of the major New England sports. He conjures hot takes for the sake of having a “hot take” and now Perk follows in line - he’s chugging the ESPN kool aid and has likely been told to separate his true green colors to appease the masses. It was just last season where Perk was a local Celtics analyst for years. Add his championship ring from the 08 team and bang - true lifelong love and loyalty to the Boston Celtics franchise. Fast forward to present day/on the national espn stage…he NEEDS to temper his Boston roots and agree to the useless and fraudulent takes on JT. The only legit take on JT’s clutch topic is his mediocrity in hitting a single game winning shot but that was likewise and mostly regular season stats. Underneath those boxy ill fitting suits, Perk is a Celtic through and through and just following the clown we unfortunately know all too well…Stephen A. JT is the best player on the court and this years stats show it.

Yeah he has bad games but every volume scorer does, especially when your taking side stepping, fading, leaning 3s and long twos like Tatum. I thought Embiid to start the season was the best in the east, followed by Giannis and Tatum 3rd. Tatum to me is a top 5 player because he can also play defense. He cant pass like Jokic or Luka, but he can rebound just like them, score just as much and is a far better defender. I can't say that Tatum isn't clutch player, but I also can't say that he is clutch player too because he hasn't done anything spectacular, to save his team from eliminating or something else... For example, he scored over 50 points in game 7 vs Phily last year, but guess what, Boston destoyed them completely that game, even if he scored 10 or 15 points less they would still win. And what happened after that??? He couldn't hit a shot in game 6 against Heat and obviously he was injured in game 7 so I don't count that. Here are some players that are more clutch than Tatum in the league: Nikola Jokic, Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, Lebron James, Damian Lillard and maybe even Steph (not sure about that). Soo maybe he is clutch player, but if you compare him with superstars in this league, there are without a doubt 5 superstars in this league that are more clutch than Tatum.

I am a Celtics fan from Boston… Has Tatum had clutch moments yes… idc what the numbers say to me he is not clutch… there has been games in the playoffs when Tatum needed to be clutch but he was standing around not wanting the ball… standing in the 3 pt corner being lockdown by players he was clearly better than… I remember screaming at the TV saying Tatum go get the damn ball, you letting this dude lock you down, that was a bad shot ETC ETC… Tatum was getting cooked during this time you mentioned by our local sports media here in Boston for not being clutch.. I do not want to do all this typing to get more specific.. I will land my plane

the thing with tatum is that he’s inconsistent he was terrible vs miami last year especially from 3 that whole series and had 0 points in the 4th quarters in games 1-3 he was the reason why they were down 0-3 he can either play good or meltdown no in between

not a lot of players lead their team to the finals at the age of 24. and he's had more good series than bad series. 2 bad series shouldn't be indicative of his whole career, especially since his career isn't even over yet

So that one series trumps his entire playoff resume. Why do you clowns get weird with this one player it’s getting really corny.

Sports analysis? We don't need it. We have the internet. Cut out all the trash talk, just look at the numbers. I don't need Kendrick Perkins or Steven A

I disagree to the Jimmy butler take bc like you just said for sha your team matter and Jimmy has just went further in the playoffs without a supporting cast like the one Jason Tatum has had in the past years and Jimmy has multiple time upset them plus the reason to why Jimmy gets a pass for bad final performance is bc he is usually hurt or just gassed out bc of how much he is asked to do for the heats

He's a great player hands down but I think that he does too much in the regular and when they playoffs take off he's there but not like they be but let's see how he does this yr

I agree with nearly every single one of your takes....but not this one. TAtum puts off strong Carmelo Anthony vibes...he’s gonna have to get over the hump in the playoffs to get that kind of acknowledgement from me

I'm sorry but whenever I'm questioning if your teammate is better & more reliable than you, I can't call you clutch. If Tatum was as clutch as you say he is, the Celtics wouldn't be flaming out to teams they are significantly better throughout a 4 year span. Jimmy Butler in the playoffs has more confidence, is more consistent, puts a lot more effort on the defensive end & is a certified bucket getter. Also he a great leader. That's what makes him more clutch than Jayson Tatum

Bro literally extrapolating out 2 points for an entire years lol it’s your stats that are misleading, regular season sample size makes it a more legitimate indicator.
