The first round byes go to the highest rated conference champions not the P4 champions. ESPN projects Boise to be higher than them and projects Colorado to be outside of the top 12 teams even if they win the championship putting them automatically at 12 because they’d be the 5th best conference champion

Lmao this is what I was trying to explain on my comment yesterday. There’s 5 automatic bids. 4 for the power 4 and 1 for the group of 5. Of those 5 the highest ranked 4 get the bye week and the 5th gets a 12 seed.(idk why a 12 seed but my guess is they don’t believe a group of 5 team could compete. I think it’s for teams like Boise, Tulane, Liberty, JMU. Who go undefeated but don’t really stand a chance against the blue bloods but I digress) All that said with CU winning out and and Boise winning out. Since Boise state is ranked ahead of CU right now, they would get the 4 seed and CU would get the 12. Which is why I said CU fans should want BYU to win out because if CU beats a 4 seed BYU instead of 12 seed BYU it would look and give us a better chance to get the 4 seed and the bye.
