Jimmy is not top twenty. He just played a series where he disappeared for three games. That’s almost HALF the games. That’s not a good player. He is inconsistent like 95 percent of the players in this era. He has ZERO go to moves. The most overrated dude in the last decade…easily. The NBA is desperate for new stars because Bron is leaving and there will be no more after he and Curry. No one is carrying the league after them. I actually agree with Mad Dog for once. Jaylen Brown hasn’t improved his game outside of his shooting from midrange at all the last 2-3 years. His handle is still poor, he still can’t playmake, and he still has a ton of lapses on defense when he’s not on ball. And his shot profile is still incredibly difficult. If I’m paying you a supermax I’m paying you on what you’ve done and what I think you’ll do. I haven’t seen anything from brown that suggests he’s gonna improve so much. Coming off that finals loss I thought he would, but tatum was the only one that came out better significantly

I get where JJ comes from, being a former player he will never say a player "doesn't deserve a bag" but let's be real. A bad supermax deal will break a franchise, especially with the new CBA. I don't think franchises should give that kind of money to any player unless they're certain that that player can be the best player on a championship team.

@@AYjoy93 you're right BUT Klay almost averaged a career high in points this season and has 4 rings including one last season where he was actually better than Tatum in the finals (Tatum was awful to be fair). Klay also had 300 three pointers this season the most of his career. The Warriors beat the 3 seed Kings with Klay averaging over 20 ppg in that series before being awful vs Lakers. Klay isn't that guy anymore but it's easy to see why a Casual Fan like Mad Dog can look at stats like this and make that mistake. Mad Dog doesn't know the details of basketball but he knows enough to make decent arguments at least something worth a debate. His list of 20 really wasn't that awful. It depends if you value playoff vs regular season performance. Kyrie is flat out better than Jaylen Brown if you are talking specifically playoffs and same thing Kawhi and PG13 if healthy. Brown has never had a playoff run like George did in 2021. I would also have Jalen Brunson, D'Aron Fox, and probably Zion ahead of Brown. The Zion one won't sound fair but Zion absolutely has a higher upside than Brown when healthy.

The problem is that the new CBA makes it even harder to keep two max players on the same team. You no longer have the loopholes and roster flexibility to improve your team in any significant way. If you're going to tie your teams future to two max players, you have to make sure they both are really elite players. Tatum probably fits the bill but Jaylen clearly falls short.

They didn't fail for the same reason. Jaylen Brown balled out in the finals, it was Tatum who absolutely stunk up the joint. If he had played average, just average Boston wins that title. There are still issues prevalent from last year some of which have gotten worse but they lost their identity this year
@EJOffor

@@toughmunths notice the word you use.. IF… guess what it didn’t go that way, they rarely have been able to coexist at a high level in the playoffs because teams are more aggressive defensively. You don’t know for a fact that they win with Tatum playing better, hypotheticals are pointless.

If the Celtics sign him and Tatum, they would have roughly 50-75 mil in cap for the rest of the team in 2025/2026. Letting him go for nothing would be terrible, but the Celtics are VERY close to winning a chip. Trading him for Trae or Dejounte Murray, Kat, Jalen Green, Lavine, etc would be kinda risky but could be what it takes to win it all.

I'm a Celtics fan. They definitely were going to lose that game regardless of Tatum getting hurt. Tatum getting hurt should not stop the team from executing on offense and defense. They looked like they had no idea what to do: poor defensive rotations leading to wide open looks by Miami, no ball movement, no one cutting, guys just standing around behind the arc. It was horrible to watch.
@jwarrior9986
@jwarrior9986 Жыл бұрын
Honestly they need to run these guys back with a new coach. The fact that defense was horrible all year is a reflection on Coach Mazzulla. They need someone who can hold them accountable on defense and keep them disciplined on offense. The over reliance on the 3 ball is a huge Achilles heel for this team. The fact that they were the second best team was only due to the fact that they were the most talented roster this season. If they additionally had the discipline and leadership they need, they would be in the finals right now. How many times did they look like they were playing a rec league game in he playoffs? So many times, they didn't take it seriously. Mazzulla isn't good enough to take them there.

They would’ve won that game with a healthy Tatum. Him going out mean Brown had to carry he’s a net negative with him and bench lineup whenever they they tell him to run the game. He doesn’t have handle, have tunnel vision and doesn’t make plays for others. And when his offense is gone, so is his defense. He benefits from Tatum getting the double and triple and box and 1 and traps defense. Brown gets the one on one and still drive to that paint with 3 guys with no plan. The min I saw Tatum got injured, I knew it was over because defense was gonna keyed on brown and we saw what happened with the turnovers. Brown is overrated and he’s a product of the Celtics system. Put brown on Houston to run that team and he’ll average double digit turnovers.

@@jwarrior9986 Agreed. Yeah and he changed his tune from game 3 to game 7. Game 3 "It's all on me I didn't have them prepared". Game 7 "We shot 21% from three and didn't defend well but I'm proud of these guys. They're resilient". Huh? Guys a dud.
