I’m in the Columbia area so I’ll occasionally go downtown and interact with USC students and it’s easier to play along and pull for them than be overly aggressive lol. I initially went for just educational purposes with a slight leaning towards Clemson’s geography because it’s not in be middle of the city, but overtime I grew to appreciate the other things about the school.

The only rivalry that even matches the South Carolina vs the Pickens County Reform School in intensity is Army vs Navy. You are just touching on the football side of the rivalry. It goes deeper than just one sport. It is found in the souls of the fans across every single competitive event. Just look at the Men's College World Series, in the early 2000s both school met for a place in the final with one having to win two to advance. Rosenblatt was full both times. The rivalry is culture in the state.

Football, basketball, & Baseball (in that order). Most places can't generate positive revenue in baseball. The SEC is dominant in 2 out of 3. More dominant in baseball than football, actually. They've won 4 of the last 5 national championships in football with 3 different teams. They've won 5 of the last 5 titles in baseball with 5 different teams. Playing against themselves for the title in the last 4 years (I'm adding OU as one of the opponents to be clear). The ACC has 1 of the last 5 in basketball, the SEC has 0. 5 years may lean in favor of the SEC, so I'll round up and do the last 10 years to make the ACC look better and more well rounded. In the last 10, the ACC would have 1/10 in baseball. 3/10 in basketball. 2/10 in football. The SEC would have 7/10 in baseball. 0/10 in basketball. 6/10 in football. Hopefully, you understand math. In terms of the value/weight of some things, have a higher value/weight than others. You can do this by assigning a numerical value to the topics you bring up. If what you state had ANY value whatsoever, wouldn't Clemson be happy in the ACC? They wouldn't spend millions in suing to get out of the ACC, would they? I 100% agree that the ACC has a better collection of academic schools. What value does it have? I understand "better" is subjective You know what I would do if I had 10,000 fewer students... raise the standard, and lower the acceptance rate. In an attempt to have something over the FLAGSHIP university in South Carolina. I'm sure it's hard to graduate from Clemson with a major like "parks and recreation" (I thought that was a tv show) or "athletic leadership." Maybe that's why they have a high graduation rate with athletes. That may sound like a diss, for academic people it would be. But I applaud the graduation of athletes, no matter how it's done.

No rivalry involving Clemson matters. The most important rivalries in college football are Michigan-Ohio State, Oklahoma-Texas, Auburn-Alabama, Miami-Florida State, and Florida-Florida State, and, in recent years, you can add Georgia-Alabama to that list. The other traditional rivalries are irrelevant outside of their regions because one or both teams are never any good when those games are played.
