This game proved to me if Lagway didnt get injured in the georgia game, Georgia would have lost. Lagway just opens up so many options on offense like this dude is absolutely ridiculous. I think we would have still lost to texas but only by 7 or 3 points if Lagway played. It's not a question of if Graham Mertz is good. It's a STATEMENT that DJ Lagway is that much better. Graham Mertz is a very respectable QB... but not for a playoff level team. Maybe if he was at a MAC level school, I could see him being to elevate the talent around him as he has had relatively good numbers through his career. He also just played in a lot of run heavy offenses at Wisconsin with a simple offensive approach that stunted his development because if you look back at his first career start in 2020, he went 20/21... he also threw 5 touchdowns. He's capable but not enough to elevate a mediocre team like Florida in the SEC.

As a Gator fan Lagway has given me back hope. They’ve had mostly bad to mediocre qb play since Tebow (outside of Trask and maybe a little of Treon Harris). Having him at qb makes me feel like Florida has at least a chance vs anybody simply because of his playmaking ability. Blows my mind that he’s only even starting now because Mertz got injured. He’s still learning and made some errant throws, but that comes with youth. I think they beat Georgia with him healthy, they still lose to Texas but it would’ve been way closer. The defense and running game was hitting too today, shout out to them. It’s just nice to have “a guy” back there. (Pause) 🤷🏿‍♂️

Yea ima have to say no on them being a great defense. They are pretty neutral (closer to bad than good) if you ask me. They absolutely got ripped apart in several games. However they’ve also had some great performances like against Georgia and again today. I will throw them some bail because they’ve been very banged up, are very young, and against Texas and the second half of Georgia they were on the field for very long portions of the game (because of Aidan being very limited as a thrower which made the offense struggle heavily).

I don't know what happened during that week off but this isn't the same defense that started the season which looks bad. @ Miami was bad, Texas A&M was bad, Mississippi state was bad (sure they won, but giving up 240 yards rushing is nasty work), and Texas was bad. As I said I give them some bail because they had virtually no offense against Texas which means the defense was out there all game plus they were heavily banged up on that side as well. I will NOT gloat as an Irish fan annoyed at Brian Kelly. I feel like that would jinx us, and I think one more loss would be enough to knock Notre Dame out of the playoffs, so we don't need any jinxing. I'm just impressed that Florida is still in the bowl picture after a rough start. (I live in Orlando, and most people are still Gators fans though the Knights are working their way up.)
