There is something that no one wants to talk about correctly is which is VanDike is an amazing defender which I'm sure can be much more valuable at a team like Southampton who really could use a good defender now, but at liverpool, VanDike is not winning games Mo Salah is. Everyone seems to Want Mo Salah to just be quite and accept any crums Liverpool give him and stay. The question of where Mo will go is easy to answer. ANY TEAM IN THE WORLD would love to have him. Also I wish we stop saying VanDike or Salah because its not comparable. VanDike is not single handedly winning games for Liverpool, Mo Salah is.

Salah wants to stay. Liverpool wants Salah to stay. but they disagreed on the stay duration. Liverpool is reluctant to extend Salah stay more than 1 year. Salah is not leaving Premier League due to unfinished Business (breaking records). Therefore Arsenal will appear as the best destination for him. Don't be surprise. Arsenal needs striker

If LFC is holding out for just a 1 year extension then they are mental. There's no risk in offering him a 2 year extension. Yes, he's 'on the wrong side' of 30 as the saying goes in sports, but he's playing his best football RIGHT NOW. I don't see that much of a drop off for the next 2 upcoming seasons that would make a 2 year extension a risk. He's the first player to get 10+ goals and 10+ assists by Boxing Day and he's also the only player since the Premier League era started that has had 50+ goals + assists combined in a calendar year and he's done it TWICE, including 2024. Yeah, there's a chance he looses some pace over the next couple seasons, but I don't think it will be that much and he can balance that by playing with more savvy, which at this point in his career he has enough experience to be able to subtly adjust his game to still be effective. I don't think he's a one-trick pony. Now, if he's pushing for a 3 year extension then I can understand why LFC are hesitant. Too bad EPL contracts aren't like NFL contracts where you could extend him 3 years with that 3rd year basically being 'an out' for the club where it's basically their choice to keep him or move on without it costing them loads of money. That happens a lot in the NFL and I haven't heard of that being the case in any European football league.

if the worry is about a drop off after x years, all they have to do is lower his base salary for the later years but add on enough incentives that he can make it all back if he keeps his numbers up. that seems totally obvious to me, so either there's something I'm missing about why that wouldn't work for everyone involved or there's some other reason a deal isn't done yet.

I think Salah and VVD have already agreed on the new contracts, but the club probably still is waiting on Trent decision, so they could announce the news at once for all the three. If they wanted to leave, they won't look that happy and be so good on the pitch, just won't make sense.

I don‘t get that discussion about Salahs age. He is probably the fittest player in the PL. Yes there is a possibility that he regresses a bit in the next 2-3 years. But even a regressing Salah is likely still a top 10 striker in the PL. And right now he is the best. And by the way, what guarantees do you have if you sign a young player? Look at United who bought young Antony for € 90 million and signed him for 5 years, paying him € 240‘000 per week. The fact that he was 22 instead of 32 when they signed him, does not help to make that deal look any better…

Three things could see a drop off for liverpool. One of course is injuries. They are down to their third choice for right centre back. One more injury and they will for sure feel it. The second is what happened last year. That is they got tired by the end of the season. It could happen again. But it does appear they play with less stress this year. But time will tell. Finally the contracts could affect play. Right now it seems to be affecting the play in a positive way. But look at psg and all those mbappe problems. The team sure suffered. I would have no problem signing Mo to a three or four years. He is transforming his game to a scorer and a playmaker instead of strictly a scorer. Also if a team like real madrid could win a champions league with modric. Kroos and benzema then so could liverpool. Good players can compensate for their slowing legs. Real madrids strategy is to sign a bit older players to free transfers. And look at how they have done.

Fans as a rule are quite stupid - they're making sure the team is financially viable, part of which you do, sure, by winning things and entertaining fans. It's not as if they _couldn't_ spend the money, but LFC are top of everything by being smart about players and coaching staff, whilst the likes of Real and Man City are falling apart. They know what they're doing and (again, as much as I'd like to see him stay) if that means Salah, or VVD or Trent or anybody is out the door then I trust that they know exactly what they're doing and the reason I trust them is they've proven repeatedly that they know what they're doing. Same fans crying about Salah's extended contract talks are exactly the same fans that would cry like babies if FSG doubled the ticket prices, so don't really get a say.

Because that’s the better. Liverpool didn’t complain when he signed for 38 mil on lower wages but performed above expectation. So players are only able to dictate as initial contract winds down. A player’s career is finite!
