Canada already exceeded expectations just by getting this far because no one had Canada in the top 4 before Copa America even began. No one had Canada finishing ahead of Brazil who lost in the quarter finals and ahead of both USA and Mexico who both got grouped. Canada with their top 4 finish will finish as the top CONCACAF team in Copa America.

Also keep in mind this is the last Copa America for Messi as he will 100% retire after the 2026 World Cup meaning the post Messi era will begin in 2027 as Argentina will have to find a replacement for Messi for the 2028 Copa America.

I think you guys are being too critical in your analysis of Canada’s performance. We all knew it was always going to be a tough mountain to climb playing against Copa America and World Cup holders in Argentina. Any result apart from a loss would have been a surprise. I actually thought Canada acquitted themselves quite well.

Argentina is not at its best. Creates little and defends a lot. Julian wins starting job over Lautaro without discussion, what a 9! Messi is not well, yet. Positive, the team improves game to game. I dont know if it will be enough to beat Colombia, confident will beat Uruguay.

The first goal should not have happened. There was a clear foul that wasn’t called by the ref. But that’s how it has been all tournament so far. The referees have shown a clear bias to South American teams.

Yes, the ref was clearly pro-Argentina but it didn't matter. We were so out-classed that we would've lost regardless. If the reffing actually made a difference I would be mad but it didn't. We were completely out of our depth against Argentina and that's no insult because every team in the world is out of their depth against Argentina.

@@AvroBellow I actually watched the game. The only place on the field where we looked out of place was our touch in the 18. It let us down over and over. But in the midfield we were equally good and I honestly think in Kone we had the standout. People may say our defence wasn’t that good but playing a high line will leave us exposed. Overall I think we represented well and we certainly belonged on that field with them.

Canada did marvelously well. They had a brave run, played better and with more character than any other concacaf nation. If I wasn’t Argentine, I would have rooted for them. Canada was gritty and workmanlike.
