The problem is the approach to cycling. You don't need to listen to these guys, they get sponsored to sell more items. Get out on your bike, start riding consistently. If you'll ever need anything like this, you'll see, but spending ALL your money on this will never make you happy. I have ridden in the past decade around 20000kms with no expensive equipment, and only bought a road bike for $1000 last year. I can outclimb or outperform most of the amateurs (non pros) in racing equipment riding $10000 aero bikes! You don't need to buy such expensive lights, bike computers, or most of the stuff that's here. Bib shorts, a helmet and the bottles will do. It's only fun when you focus on where you're riding and not what you're riding. What I admire in this guys video, is that he didn't push for so many unnecessary stuff, and that all cyclists will actually need at least the half of the stuff he mentioned.

Another tip for other noobs, like myself, who doesn't want Lycra shorts: you can get padded underwear and use regular shorts outside. Works like a charm for the amount that I can ride so far, which is about 30 km.
@markfisher79622 жыл бұрын
On the chamois: it's not really the foam that makes the difference (though it helps) ; it's the compliant surface next to your skin that greatly reduces chafe. The rubbing happens away from the skin-fabric interface. And yes, it used to be chamois leather: same grip.

😂🤣😂 Man how things have changed. My bike is 14 years old and I still ride and service it regularly, helmets have been compulsory here in Australia where I live for nearly 40 years and in the 50 years plus I’ve been riding I’ve never worn Lycra once or even had bum padding and that includes on the 100km (62mile) Sydney to Gong bike classic which I’ve done 7 times.
@DrunkDrynasty Жыл бұрын
You don’t like a comfy bum? I’m kidding I’ve never worn Lycra either. I do wear slightly padded underwear under stretchy running shorts. I can’t bring myself to wear a full Lycra aerodynamic squid suit.

Hi Mitch. Fellow tubeless rider here. Have opted to not carry a spare tube and instead rely on Dynaplug for fast recovery, combined with Uber/phone-a-friend as a last resort. I hate changing tubes out on a ride. My other recommendation is a presta-to-schrader adapter in case out of C02 (I don't carry a bike pump either) and there is a gas station nearby. Cheap insurance. Keep up the informative and entertaining vids!

For sunglasses, goodr makes cycling ones that are just $10 more. Even for running, having them wrap around for side wind protection is so nice. Throabout are another good cheap brand of cycling sunglasses, with more nice bridge to separate the glasses from your face.

I found a cheaper alternative to bone construction headphones. It works surprisingly well, especially for listening to the spoken word. When listening to music, the bass is not very pronounced (but this is also a problem with bone construction). They are on-ear headphones, I had several, but I ended up with the Xiaomi M47 and I am extremely satisfied with them. They sit on the ear but do not block the opening. Thanks to this, you can hear absolutely everything from your surroundings. It also costs a fraction of what real bone construction headphones do (around $10).

I’m new to road cycling, this list was great. I have all the suggestions, minus the bike stand and torque wrench. I don’t listen to music either, I prefer listening to the world around me and my breathing. I’m looking for ways to attach water bottle cages to my track bike, which doesn’t have attachment points anywhere on the frame. I’ve been tucking a bottle in my jersey.

one honorable mention is jersey, imo it will make your ride much simple because there's is no need to add more bags on your frame or handlebar(except if you're going for long backpacking). I can't leave my phone or some cash, backpocket on jersey will help this problem. ah also don't forget to bring some snack or gel
@Bodkin_Ye_Pointy5 ай бұрын
One thing you might have mentioned was for the ladies and their bike. That is get the right saddle. If they buy their bike from a shop they are probably OK. But if they bought it privately the bike might have a saddle built for men and as a new rider they will get badly bruised up on one. Mens pelvic bones are narrower which means the saddles are. Women need a broader saddle.
@out_spockenАй бұрын
This is for men and women both. All men aren't created equal. Finding the right saddle is the tricky part though.

I have a love/hate relationship with my doctor. I loved that she cared enough to worry about my weight (305lbs) at the time. She recommended I start cycling as a way lose weight. This is where the hate comes in. Whyyyyyyyy did she say start cycling? I started with a cheap $300 bike I got on ebay with a wahoo indoor trainer. And the spiral down the cycling rabbit hole began. This will be my 3rd summer of riding and I have so many bibs and jerseys that I lost count. I'm also on my 2nd bike but only because I was hit by a car last year and I used the insurance money to buy a Pinarello Dogma F. I went from being unhealthy heavy to an unhealthy (in a good way) cycling obsession. This video made me laugh because it's like my cycling journey in a 7 min video.

At 3:37 you are riding next to the Griffith Observatory. Im a 13 year old that just got started into biking, I go up there 2 to 3 times a month. I recently tried climbing farther, up the road that you are descending rn, but I couldnt. :( I am running the trek domane al3 disc. I was wondering if you had any tips on climbing, I want to get better. :) Thank you :)
@MitchBoyer2 жыл бұрын
Griffith Park is my favorite place to ride in LA, it’s a great place to practice climbing. I’m not a coach or anything but the thing that helped me the most with climbing hills was getting a heart rate monitor. I often attacked too hard, so my legs or my lungs would give out before I got up the hill. The heart rate monitor helped me pace myself. I realized I had to slow way down to keep my heart rate lower. At first it felt like I was going super slow, but I made it to the top! Over time I’ve built up my speed. Hope that helps a bit ✌️

Why would anyone want to reduce their senses while engaging in a sport that by it's nature plays in traffic ??
