It must be the universe at work. I’ve been plant based for 8 yrs due to lipid issues. I’m 64 female 106lbs ( now that I’m exercising) was 98lb for year could not gain weight. Anyway I’ve been seeing all this info on the importance of protein in older adults so have been pounding it down. Then came across the EAA and ordered the KION Got them yesterday (thanks Nat for the referral) and now this show. Thank you thank you for the great content and helping to steer me in the right direction ❤❤ I’m cutting back on the protein powders and upping the EAAs 👍🏻

Why? There are good vegan protein powders with complete amino acids profiles (which cannot be said for EAAs), that are highly digestible (90%+) and very low in fat and carbs. Two scoops plus all the protein from your meals should be plenty even if you're a bodybuilder. Adding EAAs is completely redundant and a waste of money.

The EAA's are a game changer!! Not that you necessarily want to throw the protein powders to the curb - I do believe they have their place as they also provide calories and other nutrients but for pure "building stimulus" this formula of EAA's has beautiful research behind it...thanks for your comment!!

@@xnoreq did you actually listen to the episode? I do not believe that the research would back you up on that POV....as I said below - its not that protein powders are bad or don't have their place but the right ratio of EAA's (which is what we are talking about here) can really move the needle on anabolic benefits.

@@nathalieniddam9630 Yes, I listened to the episode. To be honest, it's very shallow on anything science but has some sections that you have to agree should be labeled "advertisement." One of the few honest guys in the industry, Layne Norton, stopped selling EAAs a while ago because he looked at latest science and could not find any justification to keep selling them because he's also selling isolated protein powders. 60+ year old females in general will have a hard time gaining muscle. Most important thing is going to be eating enough calories in a balanced diet, eat 3 meals each high in protein, exercise hard and sleep well. Unless you are obese, it should be easy for you to gain weight by eating more. Up calories by 500 kcal. If that does not work by another 500 kcal, and so on..

@@xnoreq Yes there are quality plant based protein powder but they come with a big price - the sodium content. I only weight 106 - need all the calories I can get and the protein powders threw my kidney values ( BUN) way off so had to cut back. I log each meal so I am fully aware of what I take in. I still use but in small quantities now.

Another excellent podcast. Is a higher than average level of creatine kinase in the blood a sign of muscle breakdown ? I am thinking from the podcast that taking EAAs might help this ?

Yes it is - and I believe that yes, EAA's would help as would a good program that balances recovery with the work to give the body a chance to repair and build after the big workouts 🙂

Thank you. I have just re listened to your previous solo episode in creatine. Would it also be helpful ? I am trying to find information on creatine and creatine kinase and their relationship.
