Thanks for the cool video. Just a couple of things. The Leatherman you showed isn’t a Wave, it’s a Free P4. And the water filter you referred to as a squeeze and showed in the video isn’t a “squeeze”, it’s a micro squeeze (the backpacking/hiking/outdoor community differentiates to the two, since the squeeze is known to have better water flow than the mini or the micro). Sorry to sound like I’m nitpicking, just wanted to make it clear in case they wanted to purchase the items, but are surprised or upset to get something different than what is shown in the video (since you linked to the items you talked about, but showed a couple of different ones).

Dang! Good catches. And you’re totally right on both accounts. Tbh I knew about the squeeze one. I typically use the ‘squeeze’ and like it better but had to go with a micro squeeze on a recent trip because that’s all I could find. But I definitely misspoke on the Leatherman. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate the comment 🤙

I have an EE Apex jacket as well and you're right on both accounts: it's not much to look at but incredibly warm. And I carry a Therm-a-rest ass-pad. Indispensable!

Haha I got nothing but love for the EE Apex. I don’t even care how it looks. And 100% I don’t go on trips without the butt pad. Cheers man!

Had to chuckle as I began to see the close correspondence between your choices and mine. Not exact duplications of course, but close. I've preferred a bivy to tents, for instance -- but recently compromised on the very affordable and light Onewind bivy tent with bugscreen and superior ventilation (it's singlewalled). Also, for the sheer utility, a ripstop nylon poncho is hard to beat (pairs really well with the rain pants). DWR on clothing has limitations, and that I don't want to find out the hard way! And if wood fires are a likely means of sustained heating, a decent fixed blade knife is more serviceable than most folders and multitools.

Haha I bet most of us who’ve thought about this scenario have arrived at similar lists. Hard to beat the basics. You made some great points though! I appreciate you taking to time to share

The Cuban fiber and down fill items are the only big issues with your gear for the given scenario. A canvas tarp and synthetic warmth gear would be a lot better.
@HeyJonMoore2 ай бұрын
I hear that. I like the tent specifically for the SE because of ticks but yes synthetic is beneficial for sure depending on the climate

tall and narrow or wide and shallow cooking pots? Wide pots are more fuel efficient but tall pots, like canteen cups, work better as a cup.
@HeyJonMooreАй бұрын
Haha for all around use, wide and shallow because it’s better for fresh food and you can use the lid as a plate and a frying pan. Tall and narrow for backpacking because it fits in my pack better and usually has measurement marks. Good question!
