Day 3 into my Minimalist journey. The “possessions” are flying out of my life. Got my wife on board and playing the 30 day game. Charity shop doing well with a lot, and I mean a lot of clothes I’ll never wear again. Only things that are of use, being used and/or give me pleasure are staying. Loving it.

Thank you Minimalists - you have impacted and influenced many people to make the best changes in their life. Letting go of the past to allow the new to unfold, new opportunities and new ways of thinking, instead of feeling trapped by stuff!

Loving this. I had to share a short story. My ex-husband is one of those people who cannot throw away anything he thinks might be useful. He had a large box of bent, rusty nails that he kept on the back porch. When I tried to throw them away he jumped all over me and told me those are perfectly good nails, they just need to be straightened out. Fast forward to his next 12 or so "carpentry" projects he purchases boxes of shiny brand new nails. Every. Time. Even so, there is nothing wrong with those bent rusty nails. I guess he is just waiting for the right project.

I lost two storage units and was left with nothing twice in my life. I actually felt free when I couldn’t get anything back. You guys have helped me to shed light on why I was not totally upset over it. My biggest challenge has been my books which I will definitely be conquering this week because I re collected more books since then. It’s time to release them with love. Thanks for the strength. I have no DVD’s though.

I was working for Amazon before the 1st anniversary. There were free bookshelves everywhere! As an avid reader, I was worse than a spoilt child in a candy store. I eventually ended up with a 10x12 storage unit just for the books. I spent thousands storing them. I realized that they were not bringing me joy. I went through them and managed to get down to 4 totes. I donated them to an inner city school in Seattle. This brought me more joy than possessing them. I read all the books that were left and donated them. I now have 1 tote of books that I have re-read. I am now going through the rest of my items and it has truly made a great impact in my life. So much so that I was able to be at the ocean or mountains evey weekend for 2 years. Blessings to all.

for me, minimalism is about focusing; focusing on something that is really meant to be MINE. Mine here means not the materialistic thing, but the real MINE mine: things I can do for others and this world(including myself). Painting, writing, volunteering, constructing, composing, designing, educating, taking care of something, running... Focusing on what I can actually do for this world is what really matters.

Keep in mind that Minimalism is not purging in the style of those organization TV shows . Everything in your life can have meaning as opposed to something to fill up that shelf that is empty since that garage sale last week. Hoarding comes from believing that being surrounded by things means success and happiness, until it buries you.
@Zenmyster

Of course there is a basic divergence. Beauty is meaning
@Zenmyster
@Zenmyster 2 жыл бұрын
Of course, there is a basic dichotomy. Love of beauty is meaningful and wanting to have beautiful things near can be fulfilling. But art is basically stuff. Loving books and the feel of the pages is fulfilling, books take up space and need to be dusted.

Ten days as a total minimalist - just with an emergency backpack and a cat. Russian army has attacked my city and destroyed homes of peaceful citizens. I had to flee to save my life. No one ever attacked Russia or Russian-speaking people in Ukraine. I speak both languages, my parents speak only Russian. There are no Ukrainian neonazis or whatever Russian propaganda is trying to sell to its people. A couple of days ago they bombed two obstetrician departments in Kyiv. In one of them my goddaughter was born, the other one I passed by multiple times. What is the danger of pregnant women? Russian army bombs kindergartens, schools and today they took hostage the psychiatric hospital. But the most dangerous act is trying to destabilize and destroy an atomic power station. That would be worth than Chornobyl everyone watched on HBO. Please, Matt, support Ukraine. I know that you have a lot of followers from Russia. Their government blocks facebook, twitter and other sources of information, so that they had only TV to get information from. I wish no one learns minimalism this way.

CHELSEA BURNHAM ... It’s probably that Ryan is more introverted while Joshua is more extroverted. Therefore Joshua is the “front man.” We have no idea what talent and value each brings. Think of one as “deep” and one as “broad.” I know because I also possess the value of an introvert, which our culture doesn’t see, understand or applaud. But introverts bring much to the table. 👍
