About tourniquets, make sure you keep it CLEAN, I dont know much about barns but I'm guessing they get dirty easily. If you let your tourniquet get dirt, sand, too much sun exposure, wtv on it, over time the integrity of the tk will get hurt and it could snap when you apply tension on it!

I GOT A HEART 😍😍😍 I'm little embarrassed to say that I had little fangirl moment... 😂 But yeah, forgot to add that iodine have saved me from many trips to health center. One time I got spike form nail to my big toe's cuticle and it was hurting like hell and was little bit inflamed. If I pressed it, pus was coming out. I used iodine like 5-6 days and it was healed. Even got the spike out few days later! 😊 Iodine is best! I keep it home because of my two dogs, but I use it more than them. I have used it like 7 times for my dogs, and million times for myself 🤣 Though finnish health care is free, it's always so much easier if you don't have to go 😅

we have wonder dust for our dogs haha. They're greyhounds, so very thin skinned, so we need to stop any bleeding as soon as it's found and we realised that wonder dust was the best and easiest to use in mixture with an antisceptic ointment. We specifically use EA wound powder because of the nozzle attatchment and cost me 26usd

I have tried to stop a cow from bleeding out from its milk vein (not sure it that is the english term, it is the vein that supplies blood for milk production) 😵‍💫 it is the hardest damn spot ever, and the most deadly... Huge artery in front of the udder, under their stomach... We had to use pieces of wood, rope around the stomach and ass 😂 it was a mess! Looked like a slaughter 🥴 she survived and the wound healed luckily.

Very important is to implement medical procedures into your training, so it is absolutely normal for the horse and neither of you have stress when applying a bandage or whatever. I also reccommend to regularly measure your horses temperature and know what their usual body temperature is. Some horses just have a lower body temperature than others - just as humans have. Thank you for this video - I agree with these tipps and everyone should know these basics.

Raleigh, I saw in another video (First Aid For Horses [handle: PanAsh Equine] at exactly 2:00 minutes in), an equestrian said her vet told her that Fura Zone should only be used on fresh wounds because it promotes proud flesh. Do you think that’s true? Is it a good idea to switch to a different ointment after a couple of days? Please tell us what you think!! Also, great video! It’s been a long time coming, even though I have your old one saved to my first aid playlist (you know, the one where the sun is going down!)

Can arterial bleeds happen easily? Is there any extra measures you can take to prevent arterial bleeds? I would be so stressed out about my horse just walking 😭😭 I know it comes with owning animals but I'm so squeamish idk if i'd be able to handle it
@rathmiron
@rathmiron Жыл бұрын
I dont think you need to be worried (that much). Arteries are deeper under their skin than the smaller veins, so your horse would have to cut themselves with a lot of force for it to be deep enough to be an arterial bleed. As long as you make sure to carefully check all the areas your horse is in for protruding points and sharp edges ( and get rid of those) it is unlikely your horse will get an arterial bleed. But it's still a horse, and they are quite good at finding a way to get hurt in a manner you didn't think was possible.

Rayleigh I have a question. I'm 17 and started riding when I turned 13. I dont have a horse family and am making my own path. I feel confident in my riding with my trainers (to keep me in check) I really want to own a horse and when i do will absolutely board it at the barn I ride at for the first few months. I want to be going into buying a horse with the intentions of keeping it on property of my own. I dont want it to stay boarding at the barn as I am awkward and It will feel like someone else's pet and I don't want that. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I don't know horse feeding or medical issues and how to see them. As for training a horse I don't know either but that one is the least of my concerns. So my question Is how do I go about this and in learning what I need? Where's the fine line of its okay to jump in blindly? How much knowledge do I need and how do I get it? I watch videos and try to understand it better. I worked at my barn but it was all the laborious work and not much learning. So I stopped. (I've done lots of construction and furniture moving growing up so I got the laborious down.) One of my trainers mentioned pony club? That that was a very indepth learning process to all my worries. Atleast for them. I very much appreciate it if you answered 🧡

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but since you are going into the medical field I’m curious how you feel about this. I have been seeing a disturbing number of videos for horse and dog chiropractors. There are people doing a bunch of “adjustments” on these animals and frankly it infuriates me. I know a lot of people swear by chiropractors, but it is 100% pure quack “medicine.” I feel like one day one of these people is going to seriously injure a horse or dog by manipulating their backs, necks and legs.

I was always told that iodine is more painful to an open wound vs betadine and that betadine should be used for open wounds on animals instead.
@RaleighLink
@RaleighLink Жыл бұрын
Antiseptic solutions should not be confused with antiseptic scrubs. A scrub is an antiseptic mixed with a soap and is intended for scrubbing or cleaning but is never left on the skin where a solution is simply the disinfectant chemical itself and is water based. Povidone-iodine solution is a tissue friendly antiseptic solution that has been used for decades as a wound cleaner and general antiseptic. It should be diluted to a tea color to flush wounds. It can be sponged onto or sprayed onto suspected fungal or bacterial skin infections. It can be left on the skin safely and provides a residual antibacterial effect.

Betadine or iodine solution always be diluted to a light tea colour. Do not syringe from bottle directly onto Wound. Wonder hat is caustic and used to eat proud fresh. Do not use on fresh wounds. Blue coat or anything with gentian violet have been banned for sale in many countries including Canada for its potential toxicity and possibly causing cancers. Please talk to your licensed vet for the products they recommend
