Great Video!! If you want a more human and warmer experience when you go to Petra, I encourage you to budget a little more spending into this part of your trip. Some tips, not from your video but others I've seen; horse riding IS INCLUDED IN TICKET. The amount of a tip should be no more than 2 j.d. since the Garbadge men & car mechanics in Amman only make 1 j.d. an hour!! The horse leaders will fuss at you...but remind them of those workers in Amman and it settles them right down!!🤭 My 5 tips are:1. Buy the Jordan expert visa and take 3 full days in Petra. 2.buy your postcards from the little boys in the SiQ... no, their Parents don't send them down...those are the little adhd boys who flunk out of kindergarten and first grade and this is their saving grace. #3. buy your gifts for friends back home in Petra. Same $ as the shops in Amman but I guarantee you the exchange you can have with the women in those shops is well worth it and sitting and drinking tea with them- skip Starbucks. The Bedu need the money way more than the execs in Seattle. As for prices, I've had the women give me extra silver rings and things when they thought I overpaid them. So that I ended up with the deal. They are Muslims and Islam believes in fairness in trade. I try to buy from several different people. Likewise, don't take your lunch unless you get it from the little falafel shop next to the ChiffChaff..your not going to be saving so much. Its worth it to stop and take tea and snacks from the smaller shops along the way. 4. Camels are a nice way to get down by the coliseum or to the " church" or the fancy restaurant (nice buffet expensive but excellent , worthwhile quality ..)but from there if only 2 days - Walk to the Monastery Ad Deir and then the top of the world- but take a donkey back. #4.5 regarding the steps hes flashing, saying you need a guide. Yes you need a guide for those steps( on the left when facing the monastery) and NO that us not the same as when he waves his hand to the opposite side of the SiQ which is completely different - thats the Top of Jubal Hubth.and the stairs to that are down behind the Kings Tombs. And Yes the steps are open and free to the top of Jubal kHubth, but you might not go far enough around the back to find them. ..( the opposite way of how she's gesturing, I might add, you must go round the back of the Kings tombs.) Again, pleasant tea spots along the top way with amazing views and charming young Bedu. ( handle yourself the same way as you would in a big city.) One thing she did get right was agree on prices before hand. The Indian Jones way to the high place of sacrifice is cool.. (but very far) and then you can walk down the stairs in front that take you down to the Amphitheater. 5. basically don't pay more than 5 -10jd for anything! but a camel ride and that -pay no more than 15. ( and shes wrong, the more you dont take the animals, the less money for them to feed them.) Any time anyone troubles you about the prices, very sweetly remind them of the workers in Amman. On the third Day, you can go the back way into the Monastery Ad Deir -arrange a taxi from your hotel.(5-7 jd) If you have bonded with the/a Beduoin they can meet you and guide you but again agree on a price before hand and don't pay more than 15jd unless there's more of you and you can each chip in. If there is camels or mules involved then obviously thats going to be more 20j.d maybe even 30. Thats the way to do Petra right and if you are wealthy and you have more than by all means give more freely. Now this is not touching on the lovely frontway through the tunnel and around the back to the stairs at Jubal KHubth or the Lion &snake tombs or hiking Oum Biyhara ...that would require guides and at least two.more Days minimum!!

Hey Gabe, another great video of Petra! It brought back great memories... Just so anyone is aware that might be planning to go there someday, if you go out past the Royal Tombs and around the corner, there is a trail head that you can hike up for free and it will take you to the view point of the Treasury from above Siq, where you saw that tent. There are two tents up there and I recommend walking past the first one, to get the best view and the guy there is really friendly. The trail you have to get a guide for, takes you up from the other side of the Siq. There are many more unlisted legit hikes in the area as well, to the tops of some of those rock formations in the distance where you saw the cave facades out there. When I went, I stayed at the Seven Wonders Bedouin Camp on the way to Little Petra. The guys working there are very familiar with the area. They even dropped me off at the back entrance and pointed out how to hike across from there, all the way to the Royal Tombs. Petra can definitely be a unique experience for everyone. Sorry, for going on. I just think the place is amazing.

I had no idea Petra was so extensive. I thought it was just that iconic image of that main spot. Thank you for enlightening me. It’s so big though all I kept thinking was, those poor people must’ve suffered from the worst carpal tunnel syndrome, hammering into all that stone. Loved the video and did I see a couple of guys with shields? They made me smile.

Gabriel Traveler Yes, I can completely understand the hours of effort having done just the smallest of things. To reduce hours of footage and make it hang all together is very much an effort. Sometimes I look at some longer videos and think, “I don’t have time.” But I hope viewers will read this comment and know it’s worth the effort, on all sides of it (creator & consumer)!

Walking thru those winding canyons and then emerging upon those spectacular ruins must've been like a dream. I do have concern about the treatment of animals when I'm vacationing. I think it's OK to use animals as long as they are treated well. Sometimes you can just look at an animal and tell if they look treated well or not but of course I'm not an expert on the subject - just concerned. Thank you for the tips and the wonderful video.

This is one reason sometimes I avoid visiting tourist places, especially in India. I just can't say no to a tour guide or a shopkeeper when approached directly. In India, they are mostly poor people trying hard to make a living out of it and support their families. I just feel bad saying no to them :(

I don't think the original civilization, that used Petra, meant to live there. I know it sound Sci-fi, but all you see there, could have been done with big enough CNC Laser machine. That would make the site more industrial in nature. Like a quarry, but for huge buildings. And Yes, that would imply that the finished products where than moved! I think that, Your videos show the industrial nature of Petra very-well. The question of where all the dugout gravel go ... Well nowhere, it's in the melted feetures in which stairs where etched. Thank you for giving us the chance to see these magnificent sights!

I didn't see any bikes in there, although I agree it would be a good place for them. I'm going to take a wild guess that bicycles aren't allowed because they would scare the animals (or maybe the real reason being they would be competition for them). When you walk in you go through a narrow gate thing that you couldn't take a bike through, so I think they don't allow them.
