I want you test the camera the most. Check if it is good as they claim. I want you to check if it can save RAW, test EIS, as they say it is supposed to work while shooting photos (using Gyro), not only video. You already said there is no manual control which is a deal breaker for me. But I want to know more.

I _love_ my LG V20 since it actually does a have a wide angle lense. Not to mention an SD card slot, removable battery, second screen, IR blaster and a fingerprint unlock. It's my favorite useful phone and is way more useful than this "Essential phone". I think the essential phone is way too impractical and a waste of money if you're looking for a phone with customization and useful features.

Only 4GB ram sorta sucks... Most phones max at 4.XGB of ram so 6GB would be the soft spot. Personally I'd rather have a OnePlus 5 giving up the bezel less display for a good 1080p AMOLED display, rather than ancient LCD.

Hamza Charag I also haven't drop my phone in water but I want a sense of security that the phone will survive if I do drop it in. I am very careful about my phone. I am very ambitious to buy the LG G6 because of its Military grade durability(it has a glass back and front but it doesn't break easily like the Galaxy S8) and the IP68 rating. IP68 actually is a huge upgrade from IP67.

The extra screen is not too useful. It adds less than one extra centimeter of space for apps by moving the notification icons above where they usually subtract from the space apps have. That probably makes the display more costly to fix. They might as well drastically make the screen taller if they want to make phones better for browsing content.

They put the bezel at the bottom where there is nothing there instead of at the top where the camera is, that is very stupid. So now you have a large screen at the top where it's interrupted by the camera instead of at the bottom where it would be uninterrupted.

I have been using the same phone with 32gb for 3 years and I have never had a problem with storage. If it gets full there is plenty of junk that is doing nothing to remove. And this has 128gb on it which plenty of space. And a headphone port is a bit of a rip but I don't mind having to use an adapter which is provided

To hold the phone more easily. The bottom also houses the speaker, USB port and SIM slot. Also, that might be where the sensitive ribbon cable for the display connects to the logicboard.

I wondered that myself and the research I've done says it's because the Essential PH1 uses an edge lighting display so it can be thinner, and the bottom bezel/chin is where that edge lighting resides. You can get rid of that bezel by using a direct lighting display. There are trade-offs either way.

why not take that bottom bezzel and put that up top with the camera and have the entire bottom all screen? would fix a lot of the UI problems and would use the screen real estate in a much better way without a "camera bump" in the middle of the screen which hinders what can be shown in that portion of the screen.

Music through an adapter is worse quality. You also have to carry it with you all the time and remember not to loose it. If it happens (and it does a lot!) you won't be able to listen to music until you go back home and order another adapter.

Among all the high screen to body ratio mobiles, this is the most beautiful one. Not having the headphone jack is fine, it won't hurt to use the adapter or Bluetooth headphones would be just perfect. 128 Gigabytes is quite enough. But I believe there is enough room on the bezel at the bottom to have a fingerprint scanner embedded in a physical button which could also be used as a multifunction navigation button. The screen size will also become bigger without the on-screen navigation buttons.
