Can we do a group of 4 for minterms 8 12 14 10 , instead of a horizontal group of of consisting minterms 12 13 14 15 would it make a difference?the cost does not change though and still essential (it makes AD' instead of AB)

(8, 12, 14, 10) is not essential prime implicant. As per the definition of essential prime implicant, there has to have one minterm which is not covered by any other prime implicant. In the group of (8,12, 14, 10) all the 1s are getting covered by other prime implicants and essential prime implicants.

@@allaboutelectronics-quiz isn't it also the case for minterms 12 13 14 15 what differs
@allaboutelectronics-quiz7 ай бұрын
@@eda1058 Yes, and that is why it is not essential prime implicant. Just check the answer. That is what I have explained in the video.

How are (8,12) and (10,14) prime implicants when there is a bigger group of 1's in (12,13,15,14) wouldn't that make them implicants?
@allaboutelectronics-quiz2 ай бұрын
I think you mean to say a group of (8,12,10,14). Yes, that's true. Since (8,12) and (10,14) are covered by the group of (8,12,10,14) so they are implicant.

Shouldnt AB be EPI too? 12 and 14 arent prime implicants at all. Since there are two ways 12 and 8 and 12 and 13
@allaboutelectronics-quiz7 ай бұрын
AB is not EPI, becuase the two 1s in the group are covered by two other prime implicants. (which is not used during the minimisation). I would highly recommend you to go through other video which I have made on PI and EPI. It will clear your doubt. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ6kqHalqKuGiNUsi=CGwU6XaGrx_TH_s_
