This is the future ! Red Arrows RC jet with head tracked cockpit view and iNav 7 flight controller
Apologies but re-uploaded due to accidental deletion. First time out with the FMS Red Arrows BAe Hawk with head tracked FPV from the cockpit and a Matek 743 Wing flight controller (running iNav 7) to provide real time OSD telemetry and autonomous flight capability.
A few things to fix after this first flight. Removing the red canopy hoop in front of the camera is an obvious one and a few tweaks to the iNav configuration...but otherwise very successful and looking forward to more flights with Trevor with another jet setup in the same way.
One small disappointment is that DJI O3 air units do not support iNav currently so the OSD in the goggles looks a bit crap due to low resolution fonts and missing graphics. Hoping DJI fix this. If they don't I will be going to Caddx Walksnail exclusively. If you have seen my FMS A-10 you will see the OSD looks amazing in comparison.
Please ensure that when flying FPV you have a competent 'spotter' watching out for full size air traffic and that you stick within the law for flying radio controlled aircraft. In this case this FPV jet weighs less than 3.5KG so I can fly it up to 1,000 ft as stated in the Drone Code.

It is pretty amazing and exciting to have FPV in the cockpit. I remember seeing the RC planes as a kid, and of course imagining myself in the cockpit...flying. Now we're practically there. Great content! Thanks for sharing!

Loving that transparent case on the TX16! If you can find a bird that is happy lugging a lithium ion pack around you can really stretch the flight times. Or put it in that turbine powered avanti of yours ;) Have one of the atom gimbals on its way here, looks like it effectively has a quick release base to switch between planes? Nice feature given the digital cam/VTXs are a bit steep.

@@EssentialRC The 1000' ceiling rule really only holds true if the aircraft is pretty much overhead. Otherwise it would be too far away to see from the ground. So personally I would say the ceiling is 400' most of the time. And of course we only ever borrow our limited airspace - a manned aircraft can overfly our airfield at any time and at a very low level and model flyers are obliged to get out of the way. We get the occasional helicopter or RAF jet do just that. Hardly safe but those are their rules.

Great setup! I am doing something similar and wondered if you setup control surfaces rates in INAV? I currently have manual, horizon and ACRO setup but would like to setup multiple control surface rates like a traditional receiver.

Lots of expert videos on iNav but if you want to add FPV to a cheap wing just go buy DJI O3 or Caddx Walksnail FPV goggles and camera/VTX

Everything including radio and flight battery I guess £2000 or a little over. The FPV goggles and camera/airunit is £700.

Yes, you could do that. iNav 7.1 has just been released and has a much improved auto landing feature.

Yes you can, when everything is working well. But it could become a source of frustration if something isn't working just right. When you use a desktop computer, the monitor is the primary way the computer tells you something is wrong. A desktop computer will still work when you turn off the monitor. So you can easily start a task and turn off the monitor. However, if an error occurs, you might know about it or know what happened until you turn the monitor back on. The flight controller is a basic computer and the FPV goggles are the monitor. When something isn't working as expected, INAV's primary way of telling the user is to show a text message on the FPV screen. Without FPV goggles, your only other way to get that message would be to plug a laptop into the flight controller and use an app to try and get information. That would be frustrating at best and unhelpful at worst. You might ask, "Why would a flight controller need to show an error?" Most flight control systems have a lot of safety checks built in to prevent the aircraft from arming the motors in unsafe conditions. These checks can cover basic things you can control (like your radio's throttle position when you arm) to things you can't easily control (like the number of satellite the GPS receiver can find). If one of these checks fails you won't know why without an FPV display.... you will just have an aircraft that won't power up the motor. I'm not saying it can't be done. Errors rarely occur when you have things configured correctly and you know what you are doing. The problem is getting to that point. Not everyone knows that it takes a couple minutes for INAV to get a GPS lock or knows that INAV may not arm if your aircraft is on unlevel ground that exceeds a specified angle.

Not on this jet at the moment but based on the success of my A-10 FPV conversion which does have air speed sensor i will add it to this Red Arrows soon
