Very informative video and as my history and experience tells me and showed me on my Rx8 eBay crap coils will ruin your car .was buying them almost every other month specially on winter time due to lack of power and way premature burning marks and cracks on the. Putty Which lead to destroy my original cat , engine misfire . Plugs clotted and eventually destroying the starting motor due to engine failure . Hence why I got BHR coils few years back from “EssexRotary” expensive but for sure the best upgrade in my car for better maintenance and engine performance . Engine starts easy no misfiring at any stage beautiful spark reaction . P.S. love the LS Engine bin 😂😂 thanks Aston for the simplicity that is given for us to keep and maintain our rxs at top level .

Great video thanks for all the info. Do you guys have a video how to test coil and what is a good range reading on coils. I've tested my coil with a Multi meter. Got those reading but not sure how much life I have on them. Thank you, Your pal

Havent been driving my 8 due to lock down and I have been taking the motor bike on the days I have had to go to work. Car threw a mega hissy fit last week and intermittently would could out check engine light was on so I checked the codes and got P01687 (Metering Oil Pump Stepping Motor Circuit...yeah I have no clue either lol), P0661, P0443 and P0302 so for that last one I guess you will be seeing me soon to purchase one of your ignition sets, now I just need to figure out what on earth P01687 is.

P1687 related to the Oil Metering pump, this delivers oil to the rotor housings in order to lubricate them during combustion. I am betting your also suffering from the engine going in to limp mode due to this. You will need to get the OMP Code checked by a specialist and sorted as if it’s not fixed correctly it will return and may risk your engine.

@@essexrotary1540 Yeah working on the car today replacing the spark plugs and msd cables you supplied to me (Thank you) and I have noticed the position sensor on my oil metering pump is snapped (the plug connection). I am guessing that is the source. Annoyingly the replacement I got used also has a broken position sensor the plan was to take my current sensor and put it on the replacement..so either this is a not so common problem or I am super unlucky...I am also guessing the OMP position sensor cannot be purchased separately. :o\

very informative video... looking at my coils, they have all the casting numbers marks similar to the originals shown but have no part number on the sides. They do have the embossing on the base which is quite deep that reads 5Z14 1355, above it it also has HEX EXA - 1355 Made in Japan. Do you know anything about these coils ?

These will not be genuine Coils I am afrid, if they dont have all the marking shows for an Original Mazda Coil in the style shown in the video then its not an original.

Hi guys. My 8 suddenly shut off and won't start up again. The engine cranks normally. Started hot and cold without any issues. My mechanic found out that there is no spark on the plugs but couldn't find the reason. Battery seems to be fine. Dashboard lights OK. Cranking sounds normal. What could be the issue? By the way I saw the vacuum line to the jet air fuel mixing system is ripped off. Also I had problems with my CAT P0420. Could one of these cause the car to shut off the ignition system?

this reply is super late and we hope you have got it fixed by now but would be pretty certain that your coils have failed from what you are describing, and as a result it has taken the catalytic converter with it.

@@essexrotary1540 yeah, thanks guys. My coils were roasted and the chambers flooded as hell. Everything's fine now after changing the plugs and pull starting the car. The CAT will be replaced as soon as I'm not broke again haha. Keep up the good work ✌🏼

do not believe that, Mazda is not coil maker, NGK is, also buy NGKs coils and willbe allright. That's the same value like these OEMs for 4x price guys

Just replaced my coils with ebay one and pay £35 for 4 of them. My rx8 starts first turn hot or cold and pulls really nice

There is a reason n they are so cheap, good coils are not expensive because sellers want to be rich. They are expensive (comparatively) due to their quality and build. Hoping I am wrong for your pockets sake but those coils prices at £35.00 for 4 belong in the LS Swap Bin. That’s the cheapest set of coils I have heard about so far

I got some cheap shit eBay coils just to get it running at the time. I expected issues but I've been running it for 3 years on them with zero issues, butter smooth lol.
