Took mine (OEM) off today after having a feeling it was failing and it's got a lovely crack going down the centre of it. Not the first of mine to fail and probably won't be the last

This is a great video. Is it still recommended to use 2 shims? I see most of the shim kits today use 3 shims for the S1 rx8. Also, I have a complete set of service manuals from Mazda and cannot for the life of me find the toque specs. I know they were mentioned here but where can these torque specs be found?

I was doing this recently. The pulley is 360mm so 1mm is 1 degree. The yellow leading mark should be 5 degrees/5mm after tdc. Then the trailing should be 20 degrees after tdc. So 20mm after the tdc mark. You have 15mm between the leading and tdc mark, so I think you actually found the notch for the trailing and made that your leading mark. It’s too far retarded If your tdc mark is true. Also 12As don’t have a level combustion chamber so I’ve never believed the screw driver trick works to find tdc on a 12a, only 13bs with the MDR recess in the rotor.

I seafoamed my RX8 and blew the coils. I recommend buying a backup set of coils, plugs, and wires in case you finish the job and your car won't start under normal operation. Luckily, those are relatively easy to replace.

How can I tell how tight my belt needs to be ? I put a new OEM belt on my 09 rx8 r3 and at 7500rpm I get a squeel I'm assuming I didn't tighten it enough

Bought one of these and will get it installed next month. My RX8 is catless and sounds like stock, more or less (get some hissing sounds since forever around 2k rpm from something on the underside but is grand). I am not after a very loud sound and this vid sggests it's subtle enough but any owners have opinions on how loud (versus stock) it is?

I may be ignorant asking but a baffle plate is meant to prevent oil vortex from a crank at high rpm. What reason would you need for baffle plate when all the moving parts are elsewhere, not in the sump. Apologies if I’m missing something obvious, but why the need?

Baffle plates in Rotary engines help reduce "oil slosh" under hard cornering conditions, this can cause what some call oil burps. This is when the oil is washed up the oil filler neck and is then subjected to vacuum caused by the engine's "crank case" vent system (linked to the intake) it can get sucked in to the intke in liquid form being extremely dangerous, if it does not cause engine damage, it can fowel plugs and cause serious smoking from the exhaust combined with missfiring and poor running. We designed the RX-8 baffle plate to prevent this issue. as the locations of the pass through holes mean that a lot of the kinetic energy stored in the oil during continuous hard cornering on twisty roads of track driving is cancelled out when it kits the baffle, effectively reducing the amount that the oil "climbs" up the inner sides of the block. Other benefits include. improved cooling as the oil takes longer to make it in to the oil pan. Reduced oil foming in the oil pan, as the foamy oil with bubbles in it has to makes it way over the baffle plate before dropping in to the oil pan, this gives the oil time to off gas (the gas bubbles to come out of suspension in the oil) effectively making the oil pump less susceptible to picking up foamy oil. Sorry my answer was so long.

No need, removing the sensor will prevent the injectors of spark plugs from firing during cranking.

My 2004 rx8 rear bolts are either on the bottom or riveted. Takes 2 people. Just undo clips and force it in. Easier to push to rear with your palms.

Great video and I just did this with a new/used RX-7 that I bought a couple of months ago. However, I was able to adapt the stock fuel pump feed tube to my aftermarket Walbro by simply removing the white plastic clip on the stock fuel pump and then slightly trim it to fit down on the outlet of my aftermarket pump. This allowed me to use the stock feed tubes without cutting the tubing. As well it allowed me to use all the stock bracketry without running the hose clamp around the pump. I'll have a video of my update in a few months so hopefully people could do it that way as well. good vid though.

Yes 20mm spacers will work fine, you should also be good for arch clearance even with the wider tyres.

What your opinion on royal purple? I know the company stated it’s safe in rotary engines and racing beat has been using it? Also is synthetic ok to run after Sohn adapter? I just ordered Motul 10w40 semi synthetic to be safe
