Could have done with this vid about 5 years ago :) always stuck with the Mazda rec oil as I could find no definitive answer. Just moved on from mine tho and the first thing I thought was......God I miss the point and shoot ability and general goes where I point it of the RX8. Daily drove it for like 30k miles with vertually no issues, fantastic little car, may well get another one some time. Started having starting issues and could see a money pit opening up before me (new car has started to cost me already so maybe some more regrets) gave the car to a friend at work who always wanted to play with it and I know he will look after it. He has put a new starter on it and seems to have sorted the hot start for the most part. Battery died after being stood for a while whilst he made room for it and it hasn't really run properly ever since, he saw Driven by Madness's vid about retraining the ECU and he's done it a couple of times and he thinks it's getting better but not quite right. Maybe you could do a vid on it, or give us a pointer of what to try. Nice to see ya back again either way. Stay healthy, I saw the cough :)

Nice video 👍...I use for my rx8 Castrol 10w 40...and every full tank 100ml premixed oil.
@essexrotary15404 жыл бұрын
We recommend a higher ratio of premix around 150-2--ml per tank. 10w40 is fine as long as its the right grade and not full synthetic.

What your opinion on royal purple? I know the company stated it’s safe in rotary engines and racing beat has been using it? Also is synthetic ok to run after Sohn adapter? I just ordered Motul 10w40 semi synthetic to be safe

Idemitsu 10W30 is the best option 👍

Love the video. Idemitsu says 10W-30. But you say 10W-40? Why the difference? The CST (centistokes) are different at 100 C for 10W-30 versus 10W-40. In the USA Mazda says 5W-20. Help 😜
@essexrotary15404 жыл бұрын
Idemitsu do not make a 10w40 so unless We missed something during the edit. If your going Idemitsu in an RX7 FC, FD or RX8 then it’s 10w30 for you. When I talk of 10w40 it was referring to normal conventional oils used by owners on a stricter cost budget

I use Redline oils in everything, except Idemitsu in my fuel. have been using 10w40 but likely switching to 15w40 for this next oil change.
@essexrotary15404 жыл бұрын
I have not heard much about Redline Engine Oils being used in these engines even though Red-Line say they are safe. One of the other brands we forgot to mention is Royal Purple as they also state they are safe for Rotary Engines. We have used it in a couple of customer engines when requested and its the only brand of oils that the Racing Beat USA offer.

@@essexrotary1540 I've used the HPS version of Royal Purple, with it's higher ZDDP, Redline Oils are superior to RP. They are also the best (imho) oils to use in rear diffs, trans boxes, as well as their top of the lines engine oils. They really are the top of the line, and I am super OCD about what oils I put in my rotary, I spent months researching which oil and brand to use, RL has been nothing but impressive. Redline Oils have high ZDDP as well, ideal for rotary, whereas RP only has it in a few of their higher priced versions, RL has it in ALL of theirs.

@@Spherex the reason redline oils are "better" isnt because of higher zddp. It is because redline starts with a pure British Aviation turbine base oil. Oil is only as good as the base oil used everything else is additives. Redline had an chemist class a few years ago. They stated their 5w30 had the same film strength and many of the same property's as mist other brands 5w40. So what i am trying to say is DON'T use the 15w40. I have rebuilt engines here in southern ca that used that oil weight exclusively. Those had front bearings completely shot. Too thick a oil has the same effects of too small of weight.

@@mustangdemon87 Nice, think I should stick with 10w40 in my RX8 then in TN? It's what I've been running the past few years.

@@Spherex i would recommend 5w40. Simply to prevent wear upon cold start up an warm up cycles. From my understanding most engine wear is caused by start up an warm ups rather then high rpm use. I have a few years and over 100k miles worth of oil analysis on multiple engines regarding this with multiple weights. Only three oils i use in past years is now 1. Idemitsu 5w30, 2. Redline 5w30, shell rotella 5w40. All with sohn adapter running idemitsu premix tuned to run 20 percent more premix then stock. My daily now has over 110k miles on a personal rebuild with great oil analyses. And of course always wait till its warm to redline her.

Can idimisu racing 10w30 be used long term?
@essexrotary154011 ай бұрын
Yes, though you still want to be changing it regularly if your running the stock OMP
@wrighty3384 жыл бұрын
Would your recommendations stay the same if you were premix only, with no oil metering system? There are no wonder so many renesis engines blow when every oil reseller says to use 5w30
@essexrotary15404 жыл бұрын
LONG ANSWER... Personally I would continue to use Idemitsu 10w30 (for my climate here in the UK) if i had removed the oil metering pump, Its a full synthetic and is great either way with or without the OMP. However if your running no OMP then I guess I would say stick with our recommended viscosities (or those of your specific engine builder if you want to keep any kind of warranty they are offering) as these recommendations are more for bearing protection, and your engine bearings don't care if your running an OMP or not. but it opens your choice of oils up to a large range of freely available oils in mineral, semi or full synthetic. I would be choosing a full synthetic in this case if you have deleted your OMP as they will offer the greatest engine protection. Please bear in mind however that even with the OMP deleted your still going to be combusting a small amount of that engine oil from the sump as some will inevitably make its way past all the side seals and oil control rings and in to the combustion chambers. This however will be a very small amount. SHORT ANSWER... Yes.... but see long answer above for specific details
