Thank you very much for the 1M views! This video it's very special to me because it was made when I felt a great connection with the lyrics of the song for me this was made from the deepest part of my soul. This song defines what it's to feel lost, abandoned by the people you love and the moment when you discover that you are the only one in charge of your life. If you feel this way I want you to know you're not alone, you'll find your way someday, I'm still searching for it too...
XOXO

song: It's All over Now Baby Blue - Marianne Faithfull song written by Bob Dylan
film: The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968)

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan and featured on his Bringing It All Back Home album, released on March 22, 1965, by Columbia Records (see 1965 in music). The song was recorded on January 15, 1965, with Dylan's acoustic guitar and harmonica and William E. Lee's bass guitar the only instrumentation. The lyrics were heavily influenced by Symbolist poetry and bid farewell to the titular "Baby Blue". There has been much speculation about the real life identity of "Baby Blue", with possibilities including Joan Baez, David Blue, Paul Clayton, Dylan's folk music audience, and even Dylan himself.
The Girl on a Motorcycle (French: La motocyclette) is a 1968 British-French erotic romantic drama film starring Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull and featuring Roger Mutton, Marius Goring and Catherine Jourdan. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival but the festival was cancelled due to the May 1968 events in France. The Girl on a Motorcycle redefined the leather jacket for motorcyclists into a full body suit that Marianne Faithfull wore in the film.
The film was made on locations in France (including Haguenau), Germany (including Neulauterburg), Switzerland (including Geneva), and Belgium. The bookshop scenes were filmed at a bookshop in Geneva. In many of the scenes where Marianne Faithfull is seen driving the Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle at high speeds, she was seated on the motorcycle which was attached to a platform that was being pulled by a vehicle in front of it. Many of the scenes were filmed in the English language and then again in the French language. Cardiff received extensive cooperation from the police in blocking the roads, so many scenes show only the lone motorcycle and no other vehicular traffic. The "psychedelic" colour effects were achieved by solarizing the film during post-production.

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you'd better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are coming through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
Your empty-handed armies are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind you, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

I had forgotten that as early as 1968, her waif-ish, ingenue-ish, innocent sensuality and gossamer voice were already beginning to give way to the world-weary ennui and lower pitched more smoky vocal tones. You can actually hear the promise of her later “Broken English” in this earlier Dylan cover.

Not everything was great, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be, but we’ve definitely lost a lot to progress. I was a kid when this was going on but I saw it in the 79s. I’ve been a techie most of my adult life, my world was been IT. But social media has been a disaster. Some good, sure, but on balance, most of us living inside our phones and the attention economy is poison. And here I am. Kinda proves the point.

@@julianmorrisco yeah I tend to take the tradeoffs view, the kind of thing John Gray often said about progress but which Mary Harrington has been saying a lot as well these days. On one hand our STEM related fields are doing great, medical is getting better, hopefully a lot of these life support industries like energy, medical, food supply, etc. are headed for an AI revolution, but we've also seen (Tristan Harris and Daniel Schmachtenberger nail this to the wall) that we are Darwinian and thus tribal critters and when you have algorithms set to milk our limbic systems it ends up being an ever-more-perfect outrage and limbic hijack generator for the advertisers to rake in the $$. Quite likely for as long as the human race goes along we and how we 'make names for ourselves' in the climbing game will always be the biggest challenge to our health, happiness, and survival and the structural existence of multipolar traps guarantees first defector advantage for any hole that isn't plugged with government regulation and stigma.

I like this version of the Dylan song, with its slower tempo and more disturbed, almost menacing quality to the vocals. It's definitely complex emotionally, and creates a different mood than in Dylan's version.

Excellent version of a great song. Video is classy, too. Dylan is a master of creating an atmosphere that is so hard to grasp with the rational mind. To me, the ego realizing it can't succeed in having its way - it has to let go to make way for the original spirit-soul.

Excellent performance here from Marianne Faithfull. I was drawn here by a couple of appetisers - 1. Marianne Faithfull 2. The song written by Bob Dylan 3. The Girl on a Motorcycle. The combination somehow produces divine magic. Thank you so much to uploader estelle mccartney so appreciated, and I am thrilled to note it has been viewed 1,189,369 times wow. I also note in the description to the vid - uploader estelle mccartney 'This video it's very special to me because it was made when I felt a great connection with the lyrics of the song for me this was made from the deepest part of my soul. This song defines what it's to feel lost, abandoned by the people you love and the moment when you discover that you are the only one in charge of your life. If you feel this way I want you to know you're not alone, you'll find your way someday, I'm still searching for it too...' If I may for a moment direct that to the point in my life when I had my 'mid life crisis' - it was here in New Zealand in late April 1990 when I was at the time 26. I was riding my 10th motorcycle I had bought over a 10 year period 1980-1990. I loved motorcycles and believe i was born on 2 wheels. I went through so many as I was addicted to the thrill of riding them accompanied with the ingredients of speed & power. I received speeding tickets almost on a daily basis as if it was my staple diet - par for the course really. I was also a hopeless romantic at the time - in and out of relationship flings with girls as I was a successful amateur sportsman in endurance sport and never had the time to commit to a long term relationship. And here's the clincher - I loved enjoying a few beers and the occasional double Coruba rum and coke with friends while listening to a live band play Saturday evenings. And so the ducks all somehow seemed to line up for me on that evening riding my motorcycle - [warning: graphic language next - you have been warned - either stop now or continue] I had an horrific high speed accident on the open road after failing to take a corner and fell off, sliding across the road into a concrete fence post instantly amputating my left leg at the knee. I suffered several other horrific injuries. If you would like to read more of my story please click here to my Flickr page and a newspaper article featuring myself when I won a prestigious road cycling championship in 1986: www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/51986446472/in/album-72157649716035656/
