If Billy was my brother I would tell him if Mom and Dad left him anything then he would have to pay me back what he stole out of his inheritance or I will sue him for the money he stole plus make him pay Mom's medical bills and half the funeral expenses seeing he was Mom's son.

Op was being too nice. What i would have done is tell my coworkers about him and what he did to op and her mom and completely make him look like the bad guy. Then set it up where he was arrested for the crimes he committed as well as a restraining order against him for what he caused. He didnt deserve a single thing.

I've seen a lot of OPs go scorched earth in their revenge and go completely over the top. I think in this case, Billy got what he deserved and he had dug his own grave. He honestly could have even more karma hit him than what he got. OP showed grace and restraint. She honored her mother and still gave her brother a dose of reality.

I sort of agree but when Billy showed up at her workplace, SHE made a mistake. Her mistake was not bringing the hammer down on him after that spectacle. What if her boss threatened to fire her for that stunt Billy pulled? From my experience, never assume your boss is rational AND always assume "Human resources" will lie to protect your boss(es).

Honestly, if Billy wasn't such an idiot, the farm would actually be worth more than the 100k. I mean, it woukd literally be making money for you. Also, if having a farm is such a pain, he could divide the land up and put either houses or mobile homes on the property, gaining even more money. This girl did not make the smart choice. Even if the farm was worth 1/4 of the 100k, it's still a better choice because of the passive income you can get from it. It just requires some time and work. edit: Damn! MR and I are on the same page when it comes to the farm. 😂

For OP's coworkers to judge her when they don't even know a thing about Billy shows how shallow and narrowminded they are. And the building's security is terrible. The boss doesn't sound like a safe person to work for. What if Billy had gotten violent and attacked her in her office?

PS: I can't believe OP left that "brother" of hers off so lightly. She needs to grow a skin because he could have cost her her job! I was hoping she'd gotten the lawyer to rush him thru signing cuz there was a lien on the farm. Taking out a loan with the farm as collateral, then signing over complete responsibility to the brother not just the "hated" farm, but also the loan he'd have to pay just to make it possible to sell, would've been the truth of his "deserved inheritance". The farm was very likely worth much more than the 100,000 so a lien would not just refund op the remaining balance the brother stole, but also some of the medical bills op had just finished paying off. I would've also used the previously filed theft report & gotten the narcissist brother arrested for good measure. Going on the premise this is real: Op's brother deserves no less than prison & to share some of the burden for the medical bills. Op had selflessly covered the brother's schooling, books etc & living expenses without complaint or even any appreciation b4 he ghosted. Obviously Op would never get back more than any debt she could've legally borrowed against the farm. The satisfaction of seeing the brother behind bars would've been a deserved punishment, a lesson in accountability & likely very satisfying to see. Every action has consequences. Without facing them this time, just reinforces the brother's sense he's above taking accountability or suffering repercussions. This brother's future will be spent in & out of jail unless an extreme attitude adjustment is made b4 it's too late.

I dunno where this farm is. But if it’s up here in Ontario…. She made a huge mistake. You see Agricultural land/farms, especially with buildings, are worth a heck of a lot more then 100k. I live in Ontario, so it gives you some context. My grandmother rented the farm they lived in in Mannheim. When the farm was put on the market by the owner it was placed originally at 10 Million $CAD. This was no ponderosa, only a small hobby sized farm, with a ruin of a barn to the stone, couple fields, Pond, some trees & a house that was at least a couple centuries old that had some infestation that was in some disrepair. Farmers are not as broke as many stereotypes would have you believe. Farming is incredibly lucrative. Especially the Amish. So it’s highly likely if he was smart enough to check out the actual current worth of it could likely have gotten much more then the 100k she got. Farmland that’s already developed is worth far more then undeveloped. Gotta give it to her though, she’s awesome & feel very sorry for her.

I guess if she feels like she got the better end of the deal. I would have only given him 10,000$, what he took. Plus a call to the police, that case should still be open. I would have kept the farm and the other 90,000$. But…. Like I said, if she feels like she won, so be it. That farm could’ve set her up for life, plus she said she really enjoyed it there. He can now sell it, and they will lose it forever.

I would've kicked him in the gut, too. No marks, so prove it. If OP DIDN'T report him to the cops, I would've given him a beating & still called the cops & said I don't know him, & he doesn't belong here. He's clearly unhinged cuz I've never seen him b4 in my life. I would've given an Oscar winning performance.

I am sorry for the loss of your mother. My grandmother had blood cancer and finally succumbed to it in 2019 after many years. Take your brother to court and get your money back! You should also keep your savings in the bank where only you can touch it and nobody else. If you have anybody that you trust, then they should be the notary for your savings account so that your brother will keep his hands off of your money. You may want to get yourself tested to make sure that you do not have blood cancer and ask other family members to get tested as well because blood cancer is usually genetic. The money is yours and if you want to share it, then go ahead, but if not then you need to put the money into your savings. I think your mom's spirit is letting you know that Billy is alive and making sure that you two work things out. By the way, I think that your plan is a good one. Billy was also smart to sell the farm since none of you go there anymore. Billy is rude, selfish, and greedy. I hope that going to court will help sort this out and that he will see a prison cell for sometime. Stay safe.

Billie is a huge POS for doing what he did. Honestly, he didn't deserve NOTHING, considering the will stated Rachel (OP) inherited everything. I understand she did what she did and honestly, was funny. I can't see how selfish he was. He abandoned Rachel and their mother at their time of need and didn't even bother going to the funeral? OP should keep Billie out of her life and let him keep that energy and when something happens to him, he'll have no one he can turn to, and MAYBE he'll understand how OP and his mom felt.
