Hi. How does the Trutone cover hold up after yesrs? Did it chip or crack? I'm concerned about its durability but I cannot afford the premium option they offer. Thanks!

The more modern compounds they use for TruTone (I’d say on copies bought in 2018 or newer) are more durable than the old stuff which had problems with flaking apart under heavy use. I think TruTone is more durable than bonded leather now. Composite materials probably won’t last across a generation like your premium leathers will - but I’ve seen these TruTone covers do quite well even 5-10 years in. I don’t own the premium version of this study bible either - but one thing to consider before buying it (assuming you come across the opportunity) is the paper opacity. I do not love the opacity of the standard editions of the ESV Study Bible, so I would avoid the premium as well unless its paper quality is significantly better.

Nice review. I've been having some issues with these newer China printed LP ESV study Bibles in that there is often significant inversion of the page block at the spine...a recent one I ordered and will soon be receiving a replacement for, had such a pronounced inverted curve, it was obvious the spine support was totally weakened. And when closed, the page edges curved outward at the center in a very concerning way. I have another more recent trutone LP ESV SB I bought several months back with a similar issue but not as pronounced. This is concerning me as my older LP ESV SBs (in both trutone and gen. leather) don't have this issue at all. You don't show a picture of this Bible laying open from the center with a view of the spine and page block, but I hope this one has more spine stability. The contents, font, paper, etc. of this Bible makes it my favorite...I just hope Crossway can insist on a stronger binding at the spine or they'll be sending a lot of replacements I'm afraid.

Thanks for the comment! I went back and examined this edition and you're right there does appear to be an inverted curve when opened from the center. The NLT LP SB I reviewed in bonded leather doesn't have much of an inverted curve at all - although it feels a lot less stable in the hand than this ESV. I think the biggest difference between those two SBs is that the NLT is not smyth-sewn so I wonder if that's a contributing factor? Or maybe it's the curvature Crossway puts into their block?

If you still have this Bible, can you tell me if the paper is the very flimsy kind that tears easily? I hate that I no longer have a Christian bookstore in my area. I am considering this Bible because of the way things are going. I wouldn't be surprised if soon it is difficult or impossible to find a Bible. Christianbook.com has one for $35.99, which is a steal!

This Bible has a paper thickness of 30 GSM. It doesn't feel too thin or too fragile and ghosting is not an issue. If you're used to premium editions then you'll notice a slight roughness to the paper - but I think you could get used to this quickly. $35.99 is a good deal for this Bible, I think I paid around $60 for it.

Good review. I ordered mine largeprint esvsb but in HARDCOVER😊. And I agree with you personal size is too small it would hurt ur eyes reading it xD. And the regular size is not much smaller compare to the large print one , so I chose the large print xD

I couldn't find one that has the same portfolio design cover. They have the ESV Study Bible Large Print Indexed in genuine leather as well as TruTone but the TruTone is a different design. Also please note that the format may be different in the books I linked below. It looks like the TruTone Large Print switched to single column format in some editions.
