Perhaps, but I don't think that would be a major problem since the yacht owning crowd is also the high power lawyers on standby crowd. If it's really a baseless arrest, they'd get it thrown out pretty fast, probably before the arrest even happened.

I have a question. In your car you normally get an oil change about every 6000 miles. At 60 miles per hour that would mean an oil change every 100 engine hours. When a yacht transits an ocean you'd be putting 100 hours on a engine every four days. Do they do oil changes while traveling or do they have larger crank cases with much more oil that they don't have to change as often? Changing oil every four days, that would be a lot of new and used oil to store.
@pfisherking2 жыл бұрын
In a tractor trailer you change the oil every 10,000 to 50,000 miles depending on engine and severity of use (Local stop and start deliveries vs. long haul interstate). 50,000 miles at 50 mph equals 1,000 hours. That is an excellent question.
@timnor48032 жыл бұрын
That's a good question.
@easternwoods43782 жыл бұрын
@@pfisherking Thanks That's about every 40 days. That probably also applies to ships. I've heard tractors on factory farms have oil changes on the fly for when they are going 24 / 7 during planting and harvesting
@lowandslow39392 жыл бұрын
It depends on the engines. Generators need an oil change more frequently than the mains. We do change oil while underway, if we are on a long enough trip that it can’t be put off. The engine has to be shut down, oil pumped directly from oil pan to dirty oil holding tank, filter is changed, and new oil is pumped directly into the oil pan. It’s topped off and restarted. A sample is taken, to be sent to the lab for analysis. We carry huge amounts of clean and dirty oil.

Ships (all vessels over 300 gross tons) fitted with AIS shall maintain AIS in operation at all times except where international agreements, rules or standards provide for the protection of navigational information. A flag State may exempt certain ships from carrying an AIS. The Maritime Safety Committee is still trying to restrict public access to AIS data on the web claiming it jeopardises the safety of the vessel and those on board - stupid of course because anyone wanting to cause grief to ships at sea just sets up their own AIS, eg pirates off the coast of east Africa.

It is the flagstate that is supposed to do this, and when you see which flags most of these yachts fly you know that nothing serious is being done.
@gullreefclub2 жыл бұрын
The people who are supposed to enforce the rules of the road on the ocean are wherever the vessel is registered i.e. flag state and since most of the counties that flag these vessels do so for registration fee and otherwise don’t usually give a damn. Personally I think any vessel not broadcasting AIS and gets in a collision regardless of actual fault should be considered at fault because without broadcasting AIS they are a hazard to navigation.

There is something odd about the whole design of this vessel. Arrest is usually called a 'mechanics lien' i.e. If there is Unpaid services done by mechanic or shipyard workers etc it its very easy to file in court for a mechanic Lien and property ( car , boat whatever) can be held ( arrested) until paid with appropriate expenses and interest etc. . This is common in USA and uk and many other countries I expect. Cheers Warren

Phrase “mechanics lien” applies only to land/buildings in the US. If it is a vehicle a different terminology applies.
@gullreefclub2 жыл бұрын
@@olasek7972 I have had “mechanic liens” put on vehicles for non payment and have done so when I lived in Maryland, Georgia, and Florida. This really only applies to vehicles that are on your property and not for say a vehicle that a customer paid for the work by check and the check bounced or a stop payment was put on it. At which point you have to use other methods of collection which include everything from the somewhat dubious practice of taking the vehicle back (basically a semi-illegal repo depending on the the state) collection company, filing a claim in court (suing for payment) and good old fashioned showing up at the deadbeats place of work and demanding payment which sometimes if done in front of the person’s boss gets him/her involved sometime they pay the bill and sometimes you get told to leave the property.
