@@sunnyd4125 I only see one person on the bow onboard the Nordhavn, no idea if there was someone else. One thing they could and should have done is drop the anchor, but that was not done either. So I hope we will here soon what was going on and why no actions were taken to avoid this collision.

@@revluc Yes. Then there was years of litigation concerning the owner being unhappy about the boat, if I remember correctly, which almost bankrupted Nordhavn. I blamed the owner. If you want a superyacht, buy a superyacht.

Nordhavn is the brand of the Company PAE... Pacific ASIAN Enterprises... they don't build anything... they farm out all their builds to China. $16 Million to build, took the first owner another $4 Million to correct enough/most of the mistakes just to get her running / enough to sell off the boat to the next poor soul.

You should, they have outsourced their construction to china for a long time now to save money and it has definitely shown in the quality of the builds I've seen at yacht shows. They also build in Turkey and Taiwan.

Thank you for having covered the FSG and Nobiskrug debacle. In the early 1960ies, Nobiskrug had built the then largest ship of the Federal German Navy, the training ship 'Deutschland' (A59), on which I received some of my initial officer training in 1980. The way in which these shipyards have been managed over the years is simply appaling.

SYOT suggestion: Sailing Yacht Black Pearl. With the climate calaminity all by inevitable, at least this yacht pointed in the right direction by using its properllors to spin generators that charge batteries whil the yacht is propelled by the sails. (originally planned to have sails as solar panels as well). With many fingers pointed at the carbon footprint of private jets and private yachts, this boat shows it is possible to have luxury and not a large carbon footprint.

Allow me to slightly adjust your sentence: That is insane, it's bound to go wrong with all this technology these days! More tech means more complexity, more complexity means more things can go wrong and there is less you can do about it quickly. High tech needs very very careful design and a lot of adjustments to put additional controls in place for the case that things inevitably break. You only need to look at your phone or PC to know that mankind is not yet able to do this perfectly.

If the gear box is stuck in forwards, more throttle in reverse will just make you go forwards quicker, all you can do is turn the engine off.

On the collision, would there be some protocol whereby the out of conril ship woudl blow horn or do sometging ro warn of impending collision and signal thet are aware this is about to happen? For the Allure of Seas, if a lifeboat was involved, there would be costs associated with its inspection and likely recertification and I have to wonder about immediate impact on number of passegers allowed to remain on board if the lifeboat has to be considered inoperative until roven to be safe. From an accounting point of view, how does the cruise ship gets its money? Would such accidents always involve a police report which can be sent t insurance company to get money ? (and insurance company then goes after the yacht to get their money back?)

You never comment on what type of controls are installed. for instance air controls are sensitive to humidity that collects in the system and if not noticed can cause enough rust to jam an instruction regardless of filter dryers. It has happened to me.

Even if a yacht is "arrested" there is an expectation that the vessel will be maintained in working order so that may involve actually moving the yacht under it's own power to make sure all systems are working. The same goes for a car. Just sitting in one spot for months on end is not really good for it.
