Very gud tutorial. But I have a doubt regarding the intersection of beams. There will be primary and secondary beams right. ? If take the beams continuously, wouldn’t the beams will b designed neglecting the intersection. ? I personally think that main beams be continuous and the secondary beams should be splitted at the intersection.

Hey, Great Video and commentary. Really appreciate your effort. Thanks a ton. one small question. I agree that you are applying the slab as a membrane. But why did you apply the lift walls as membrane ?...They are basically shear walls too and will participate in resisting seismic lateral forces right? So shouldnt it be applied as Shells?. or is it not going to take part in seismic load transfer?, Please clarify and enlighten me.

It's a very good tutorial to understand the basics of Etabs. But I would like to know two things: 1. Where did you find the values of torsion constant and moment of inertia values? I am from Bangladesh and in our building code (BNBC) I don't find any provisions for those. If I take those values as 1, would it be impractical? 2. Should the beams be continuous even if the beams cross other beams at one or more points? i.e. beam along 3A-3J should be considered as a continuous beam whereas beam along 4I-2I would be continuos too. is it? Note: I didn't go through other comments. So I dont know if you have covererd these questions. Even if you do, please repeat that.

Nice explanation. I have a question regarding the stiffness modifiers. Have you adopted these modifiers from ACI? because there are no provisions for modifiers in IS code. Why do you think IS code is silent about them.
@civilknowhowtutorials71008 жыл бұрын
Thank you........Yes i have taken from ACI code.About the indian code what i came to know from senior engineers is that IS 456, though it was revised in 2000, most of the revisions pertain to durability clauses, may be because the team responsible for revision is from Cement and concrete research. Hence it contained most of the provisions from the earlier version of the code. So we may see the stiifness modifiers included in the next revision.
@yasar1abdurrahman3488 жыл бұрын
+Civilknowhow Tutorials This is really sad if that is true. I also read somewhere that it might be because the dead load factor in combinations taken in IS456 or 1.5 while in ACI it is 1.2.
@civilknowhowtutorials71008 жыл бұрын
In the case EQ comb....our dead load factor is 1.2....n when w apply stiifness modifiers ...ther is 65 % n 30 % deacrease in the case of beam n column respectively.So i dont think the D.L factor of 1.5 can really compensate that.This is what i think..

I THINK FOR THAT WE HAVE TO PROVIDE A CANTILEVER BEAM FROM BEAM CENTRE TO COLUMN CENTRE WHICH MAY LIE IN THE COLUMN. PRACTICALLY WE HAVE TO OMIT IT. BUT THEOROTICALLY WE HAVE TO TRANSFER LOAD THRO' AXIS WHICH ARE UNIDIRECTIONAL i.e. SINGLE LINE AND NOT THREE DIMENSIONAL.
