World at War works perfectly well, regardless of whether it was cast in the pre-combat main phase, the first post-combat main phase, or during your upkeep due to Rebound. It will not work if you cast a second copy during your second post-combat main phase. Savage Beating, on the other hand, may only be cast in combat.

@QDurlstonP4 жыл бұрын
World at War does not need to be cast in your first main phase. So long as you don't resolve it before the 2nd main phase is over, it still successfully resolves and acts to its full potential. The clause saying 'first postcombat phase' was added to the card not to restrict playing the spell before combat, but to avoid people casting a copy of this spell each additional main phase, netting infinite combat steps. To quote its own Rulings, "As long as World at War resolves before the first postcombat main phase of a turn ends, it will have its full effect."

I had an Etali deck built for so long, but mine played with more big dumb creatures (like Blightsteel Colossus and the Eldrazi) and oh boy was it fun to flip into one of those when I also had a haste enabler and an extra combat step card. Problem was I more often than not flipped into lands which eventually led me to take her apart and build Xenagos (but our lovely red stompy friend is in there).

At 5:50, jeskai barricade returns itself to matty’s hand thanks to its etb ability. HOWEVER, the barricade says “...you may return *ANOTHER* target creature you control...” Shouldnt this mean that the barricade cant target itself? I have a self-bounce deck with barricade in it (the commander is God-eternal oketra), and i’ve always played with it as if it cant target itself. If it CAN, this is huge news for me, since this basically means its a better Kor Skyfisher (which is worded in a way that allows it to return itself to hand) since it has flash. Could anyone confirm this for me? Can jeskai barricade return itself to hand?

Yikes, people need to run efficient removal. The argument is often that efficient, single-target removal is card disadvantage versus running board wipes. But if it stops you from dying then... All three of those decks should have had efficient answers to Etali, and the two green/white decks should have had efficient answers to Blood moon. Instead they just got dumpstered. I know people don't find those kinds of cards fun or exciting to play, but this was really a non-game because of it.
@TheMightyBattleSquid4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've blind-sided and been side-blinded by too many "inefficient" cards by now to make that argument while building my decks. If it works, it works (except 7+ mana non-recurable/cheatable targeted removal like scour from existence, that's where I draw the line hahaha)

I personally dispise take backs and do overs in commander. The point being the millions of different card interactions and possible different ways to interact, do overs slow the game down and cause long slow and boring game nights of magic. Cannot tell you how many times in Edh , I've targeted something dumb or made play mistakes and said "well darn, I screwed up, I pass the turn " laughing at my misfortune. Gameplay mistakes are teaching lessons to be a better magic player, but just doing redos in every game negate that opportunity for growth.

mattshuey1 I appreciate your reply. It’s refreshing to see a well-thought out reply instead of the usual “just do better”. I agree that in some cases games can be very... lopsided? It’s a tough balance for me because in some cases I have people who come out specifically to play and are excited when they win. I try to post what I can of those, but I do curate a lot of my games. I have a good number of games that just have one person dumpstering the whole table, with nothing but stax or an incredibly strong start.
@AndrewLawton164 жыл бұрын
@@mattshuey1 I find games like these to be valuable, even if they're not the most engaging. This is a very honest game of commander. There were a few misplays and one person did their thing before anyone else could and it won them the game. This is what commander looks like at my table. Not showing 'bad' games gives people the impression that their decks should run a certain way. Sometimes you get hosed on mana. Sometimes you have to make calls that end up in retrospect lose you the game. This video illustrates why you don't attack with your mana dork. Shows why you have to run enchantment removal.
