A trick I use to add power is connecting an unpowered USB C hub then plugging a charger into one one of the USB ports. While I use a hub designed for MHL phones it works without its own HDMI out on non-MHL phones (my backup phone is non-MHL). That give USB storage and a place to connect wireless keyboard and mouse adapters like Logitech while leaving Bluetooth connections free. @clebbington3 жыл бұрын
I kind of makes sense when you think about the BOM for these inexpensive handsets - USB-C 2.0 can support data transfer and decent charging rates while being priced cheaper than a full USB-C implementation. It's not just about the physical port, either - the USB controller circuitry is also more expensive for true USB-C.

The whole "USB-C 2.0 can't support video out is because it's not 3" is BS. I remember a time when many micro USB 2. phones supported video out through MHL. And MHL Alt Mode for USB Type-C does supoort USB2.0. Companies just refuse to put it so if you want that feature you have to buy their flagships. Kinda like how Samsung won't put DeX mode on their lower end Galaxy S Tabs like the 6 Lite or 5e. Even though we know they do have the power to run on DeX. Might not be able to multi task as well as the high end. But the layout change alone would help. Many Android apps aren't really good for tablets, so running it on a window inside might be better. Even if they limit the number of apps running simultaneously. Like only 2, like pretty much any phone on split screen mode.

These were around for micro SD years ago. I have one that I used with my Galaxy Note. II. It is much less complicated. It is basically a multi-function hub with HDMI, micro SD & full SD card slots, a full size USB port and a micro USB port for charging. It didn't need any apps. You just attached it to an HDMI port but I don't think that it worked with all Android phones. It needed a protocol that only the higher end phones like Samsung had. I used it at home and took it to friend's houses to watch movies. That was long before smart TVs, Chromecast and before Android boxes were cheap and easy to get. I didn't play games with it but it worked very well for movies. I just pulled it out. Now I have to see what I can still use it for, maybe with a USB C converter.

I'm actually getting quite awesome performance while casting from my PC to a TV screen. The lag being within 10-20 ms or less judging by my gaming feel - which is barely noticeable. It is important that one of the devices is connected via cable. Then depending on the distance to the router your minimal one way lag is 2-4ms and two way will be double that. Cable is pretty fast so you will also get the awesome experience. Also the TV monitor hardware is important. If you are pushing higher resolution the CPU needs to be stronger.

What is the name and description of the hdmi device you are using? What is the name of the app you are using it with? Do you think that device would work with the Samsung A13 (5G) cell phone?
@iEscapedVim2 жыл бұрын
I think it only work on devices with MHL Support.

Great video, and you really showed the main points of this great technology. Very useful as a complement of phone usage. And you're a great tech communicator and a natural to it, so you know by intuition what points to include and to explain. Keep up the good work. Cheers

Is there a way to just extend the display instead of mirroring?

Wonder if it works with FireOS as it's just modified Android.
@wideasriel3 жыл бұрын
The FireOS also has the Wireless Cast option that is just hidden lol, BUT you CAN access it, but yea this should also work for Fire Tablets

I'm wondering if it would be a good option for the Tab S6 lite since it doent have DEX or TV output?
@dknc73933 жыл бұрын
I was researching that before looking to get a S6 lite, but it seems like Samsung dropped the DEX except S6 and above, or if you can find S5e, that would work but S5e is priced between S6 and S6 Lite and its benchmark just barely above S6 Lite. I checked iPlay 40 and it supports MHL. So anything that says it support MHL will work, but not S6 lite.

thanks alot , tried everything and even bought 2 different modules to see mirror casting thru non 4k monitors like my computer monitor/ emulation games while out of town launching my Xbox one games thru Xbox Beta,, Truly thankful.

why does an HDMI "adapter" need location permissions right after asking for bluetooth
@duke45jp3 жыл бұрын
Wireless connections maybe?
@mttkl3 жыл бұрын
It only asked to turn Bluetooth on, not to have access to it. Sadly, on Android, apps need the Location permission to access the WiFi list and Bluetooth devices. That's just how it works, because both *can* be used to get the phone's location.

Very impressive. Did any of the devices tested use Micro USB connectivity as it would be useful to see if things are as reliable using that as it is for USB-C? The lack of HDMI over USB-C has stopped me purchasing any a device that you have reviewed and in the end I purchased a screen damaged Mate 20 Pro and type C hub to provide connectivity to my TV as use it as a TV box/gaming setup. Would still be useful to be able to hook up other devices that o not support MHL etc from time to time.
@ritviksapra13683 жыл бұрын
Can you please clarify two things for me? @ETA Prime 1. Can we use Android 10 desktop mode with connecting via HDMI like this? Will it work? 2. If I connect the USB C end from a hub, rather than directly from the phone (I want to connect other devices too like keyboard, mouse, pendrive), will that work too?

What about the Fire tablets?

I'm looking at my Fire 8 with miracast available on the Playstore and none of that "This app might not be compatible with your terrible, terrible Fire tablet". My friend gave me his old one and I don't understand why someone would pay for such limited functionality? Long story short (too late), I'd bet you can make it work so long as miracast does. Do you need to know how to get the Playstore on your Fire as well?
@davidbaldwin7733 Жыл бұрын
UPDATE. Technically yes. You can mirror from A02s and it is easier with this connector. Surprisingly plug and play. HOWEVER you will only be looking at home screen as it will freeze the image if you even try to scroll at more than a snails pace. My next move is upgrading to A53 5g. And I will post another update.

I wish audio was also carried over cable. As seen in the video, there is noticeable delay when playing over Bluetooth, making it not worthwhile for anything besides just playing music.

The one that you have is not available on amazon anymore, and the optional one that you linked requires the user to download an app from the web, not from the play store. So unfortunately it's a double fail.
@GuilitoDoinks2 жыл бұрын
If anyone is dealing with big sudden lag, it may be because your phone or tablet is running at a higher refresh rate than 60 hz. To change this, you can go to the settings, then display, then either go to advanced or motion smoothness depending on the Android device, and then select the 60 hz option. This should do the trick, just keep in mind that your phone will be capped at 60 fps when mirroring and when not mirroring.
