You can easily Add HDMI to any android phone or tablet using an inexpensive Displaylink adapter from eBay!
I've tested this with the POCK F3, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Galaxy A32 and the Moto G Play and it works with all of them.
This is a great option for those who want HDMI video on an Android device that dent natively supports Alt Mode or Dimply over USB C.

I just bought this for $18 and it worked with my Pixel 2! Connected my phone to a small usb hub with a charging port and was able to charge my phone while casting as well. Also the device takes sound from the phone and can transmit it through HDMI. Amazing! I bought the Chinese adapter from one of your other videos before this and that one had a noticeable lag. Also, the HDMI part that plugged into the screen got extremely hot after short use. I had to return it on day one.

It's frustrating that you can count on one hand the number of manufacturers that have phones with built-in support for USB C to HDMI. Of course, the other side of the equation is software like Dex to make the most of it, but it's a shame that functionality isn't part of Android in any useful way.
@primalconvoy

Agreed. It's shameful that Google hasn't made this a feature straight out of the box, or that it's a standard feature for all manufacturers. The more they make phones difficult to connect to screens, the more they become irrelevant.

Hi there, if you remember you posted a video of similar type of hdmi from any phone months ago, which used miraplug, i bought that one but was dissapointed with the quality of video, i mean there was some sort of compression which decreased the image quality, even though it was quite lag free but mostly i wanted to use it for video out and any miracast system even wired one compresses output of the video, unlike a real usb 3.1 alt out phones. So i was wondering about the quality of the displaylink, does it also compresses the output of the video or is it like a real usb 3.1 alt out like hdmi. thanks again, you always post interesting tech videos.

I don't the dock he used in the video, but i do have a monitor that used Displaylink over usb. I noticed that on Android, the Displaylink Presenter app used native casting function on Android. So the result is the image always have some compression in it, i think it's because Android prioritize speed over quality. Also the color isn't as nice, compared to connecting it to a computer through the same USB connection. Over on pc my display seem to have some slight input lag compared to no lag on Android, but it has no compression. So i think it's just how it works on Android

Something that's blowing my mind here is that in your short Asphalt clip, the timer on the top right of the game on the monitor is actually AHEAD of the timer on the phone. For example at 6:57 in the video the timer on the monitor reads 00:28.461, whereas it reads 00:28.378 on the phone. So the monitor is ahead by 83ms. Essentially the monitor is predicting the future.

Hello, I just want to point out that resolution can actually be changed without root. All you need is ADB. You can either use PC or just the phone itself (if you have Android 11+). Full HD example: adb shell "wm size 1080x1920; wm density 160" More items can fit on the screen as the density is set to lower. To reset: adb shell "wm size reset; wm density reset" For notched screens, I recommend setting "Simulated display with cutout" to Waterfall cutout. If you're on Android 11 or older, black bars would vanish in landscape. Tested on Samsung ROMS (since Android 7.0). Other ROMs may not play well. Don't go crazy with the values. Try at your own risk!

My current Galaxy A51 is not only 21:9, but when rotated sideways shrinks a little bit on the left to avoid showing the hole-punch camera, which looks fine on it's own screen, but casts that to the adapter too. Guys, guys, don't buy this product. I promise you will be disappointed. I once bought a wired casting device featured in an ETA Prime video before. (1) the lag IS bad, you can actually see plainly in the video that it's bad. Unless you are extremely OK with laggy gameplay, don't do it. (2) What you probably won't see in this video is that the video output will look very compressed and not crisp 1080p at all. This setup is squeezing the video signal through USB 2.0 speeds. If you want TV output from a phone, you're much better off buying a used OnePlus 7 Pro or Galaxy S10.

One mans lag is another mans perfectly fine! I've used display link and also native USB 3.0 HDMI out and can't tell the difference in emulation - both are just fine and a lot better than wireless casting

@@jazzyj8850 I'm open to being proved wrong but ETA's footage seems to have both input lag and really obvious dropped frames. Would've been nice if he had run it through an HDMI capture card so we could see the results more directly.

I see a good number of this Targus devices out on Ebay, but for some reason, few of them seem to have the power cord with them. I assume you need to power the adapter to have it work, right? How can I get the proper power brick for this? It looks like a unique 4-pin connector.

I've watched several of your videos, but due to the large number and my limited English, I couldn't quite understand them. I'd like to directly inquire about something related to connecting a phone to a TV. I want to use an emulator on my phone for PS2, Wii, NGC (I'm using Dolphin) and screen mirror it to the TV. Wireless options have too much latency. My phone, POCO F2 Pro, and Huawei Nova 7se don't support Type C to HDMI. Among the various methods you've mentioned, which is the most suitable, considering both cost and minimal latency? I've seen you mention adapters, decks, and cables, but I'm unsure if they work with phones that don't support Type C to HDMI. Also, some people mention that using a non-powered adapter may lead to connection issues due to insufficient phone power, while using cables may cause overheating. Can you provide some advice? Thank you.

I believe it can handle video but not video and audio the way that HDMI can. The video alone is sent over the USB cable and the audio is sent to the adapter by Bluetooth. Then the audio and video are recombined and sent HDMI to the TV

My phone used to show black bars like this but if I pinch my screen and just spread my fingers a bit it resizes the image to the whole screen. I have enabled an option to do so, in the Dev options on my phone .📱😁 Before I had this phone For the last 4 yrs I used an adapter to use my phone on my TV screen(HDMI out) it's just a small box with a USBC connection with HDMI, USB A & Mini USB it was only like 20$ on Amazon and makes it HDMI out. I believe I also used a software called ez cast to get it to work.(obviously I tethered but still needed the software) Now I have Ready For so I no longer need the adapter.

Nice workaround for not having HDMI over USB-C. It's this better than using the cast over USB adapter cable you showed off a few years ago? I believe that charged over USB unlike this DisplayLink adapter.

Whilst this dock is useful, sadly, most of the second user sales do not come with the power cable, which cannot be utilised by a common barrel connector type because Targus used a proprietary connector. And you can already guess that the ac adapter alone can cost as much as the dock.

Very helpful video. Need to know if this would help mirror Netflix and Prime from Moto 2022 edge. And, a silly question, do I use HDMI cable from adapter to monitor to mirror video apps from the Moto device?
@mattdavis9601

I'm pretty sure that you don't need this adapter. The Moto Edge phones usually have wired video out from the factory, so all you'll need is just a simple USB-C to HDMI cable to connect to a TV or monitor.

@@mattdavis9601 Thanks for the info. I figured recently that it works this way for KZbin and websites and phone displays. Netflix prime and all won’t work, for the restrictions it has with such phones.
