Have you tried changing the slider from best performance to balanced and tested? Best Performance keeps the power at the CPU where as Balanced will allow the GPU to use more if required. This tip was on Level 1 techs. Only applies to APUs.

I'd say upping it to 20-25W is safer for daily use. This video shows that you can theoritically give 30W to those APU but you need a lot of cooling and also it can kill the VRM faster. Maybe if the app has an undervolt settings it will make it a lot more safer to push the CPU.

@ETA Prime Thanks for the video! I'm gonna test it on my R5 3500U HP Pavilion 15 once I get a cooling pad. Max advertised TDP should be 35W but I'll go with 28W first and if I feel comfortable enough, I'll up it to 30W. I want to be cautious since my laptop is the only PC I currently have and I can't afford anything else at this moment. I can run it off the wall all the time without caring about killing the battery since it's pretty much dead and at this point I'm no longer interested in getting a replacement but rather a new laptop/desktop PC.

AATU tutorial starts at 5:45 As of this writing, AATU has been superseded by Universal Tuning Utility. UTU overheated my Beelink SER5 Pro (R7 5800H) mini pc and I just set it to Balanced preset. I set it to start at system boot now it abruptly shuts down soonest the preset is auto applied. Update 1: I managed to close the app from the system tray before it applied the preset. I uninstalled it. Update 2: It disabled my network adapter. It fails with a Code 10 - This device cannot start. Update 3: I power cycled the mini pc by, shutting it down, disconnecting the power cable, holding the power button for 30s, and waiting for 10mins before reconnecting the cable then turning it back on. THAT WORKED. Proceed at your own risk. I would suggest to stay away from the new app and stick with Ryzen Controller 2.6.0 Stable.

Nice help for some notebook, my own nasus notebook does actually handle 30W TDP on 5500U on Standard, going down to 15W only in battery mode. When I bought the Notebook it was at 36W on stock but that got changed as it often hit the 95°C temp limit and throttled, leaving a unstable performance. Now it's 30W and it does reach 5600 Points in Geekbench Multi, 7070Points in Cinebench R23, and 15100 Points in Geekbench compute Vulkan.

I really hope this stuff works on the Steam Deck somehow atleast when plugged in
@dimitriid
@dimitriid 2 жыл бұрын
I think it will be doable, but don't expect Valve to do it: One of the news items about the steam deck is that Valve has gone on record saying they won't offer any performance uplift at all from "docking" the steam deck. This can only be attributed at the cooling solution constrains since we know power constrains wouldn't be an issue plugged in but heat would if the headsink can't handle it, and everything seems to point to that. I even expect Valve to not even enable the option on the bios by default so it will b e a fairly complicated process involving flashing the bios more likely, probably not worth it. Since those APUs on the steam deck will be on DDR5 and using RDNA 2 (vs DDR4 and Vega cores here) I would expect the performance to be similar to this laptop chips at 30 watts with the steam deck at just 15 watts: the gains on performance will make up for the reduced power limit so until it's actually out for testing I wouldn't worry too much.

For best result: 1.Ram must be in dual channel. Also use fastest supported ram. Ryzen CPU and GPU are heavily dependen on ram speed than Intel. 2.reduce CPU usage to 95% from 100. There by reduce CPU temperature and will help iGPU to boost longer. 3.increase GPU wattage between 25-30. Use 30W if you have a cooler. Or at least lifet laptops back side by 1inch from table for a 10°C reduction. 4.Under volt CPU so,that you don't need cooler any more. 5.change CPU thermal paste. 6.Try to get debloated windows 10 or 11 light For better 1% low in games.Since most games run around 30fps.

On some laptops will have soldered RAM which makes it even more limited for what RAM you can use. Even if you have RAM with same size but with much faster speed, the system won't utilise the extra speed because dual-channel RAM requires the RAM to run at about the same speed as the internal RAM. Even worse, you can't use RAM with different size because the system won't run dual-channel on it.

@@begula6763 yes obv it'll run a bit better but as u said about the temps. I don't think the performance gain is worth having when comparing with the temps. It just decreases the life of the laptop for gains that are not really needed. Overclocking imo is useful mostly for ultrabooks having APUs coz they do really need the power.

@@siddhantyadav450 Do you actually have proof about decreasing the life of the laptop? I've heavily OCd every laptop I've ever had and still have them go like a champ after 5 years! All I do is make sure to have premium cooling solution such as liquid metal and you are good to go! Yes the fans max out and you bake an egg on the damn things but if that vs some few frames of extra fps are not your cup of tea, you should stay the hell away from OC in general!

@@jeffreyokun2355 yeah you work on the cooling right, as long as temps are fine then its all good but normally ppl just overclock the laptop without doing anything for the temps. There is an easer way to get into the BIOS as some computer boot too fast to press the F2 key in time. In Windows 8 and up, press and hold the left Shift key while clicking Restart on the Start menu and continue holding while it restarts. The computer will look like it's restarting then bring up a menu to Continue to Windows or Turn off your PC or Troubleshoot. Click Troubleshoot then Advanced options. Then click UEFI Firmware Settings and then Restart. Your computer will restart and go straight into the BIOS.

I am currently using the AMD Ryzen 5 3500u on my Lenovo laptop, that has a max. clock rate of 3.7 GHz. However, the static clock rate is at 2 GHz. Although I could theoretically overclock the CPU to a max. of 3.7 GHz, I know that the heating, that undoubtedly comes a long with overclocking, would destroy the entire hardware. Therefore my question is, is there any safe overclocking span while using a cooler and if so, how far could I practically go?

But I'm on BIOS version EECN30WW and EC Version EEEC20WW, which appear to be older versions than yours (and mine came with a 65W USB-C adapter, not a 45W barrel plug type). I get 32W average with no tuning, doing the same P95 Small FFTs torture test. Using the Pre-Made 4500U preset that goes *down* to 20W average, and using your custom preset it only hits 26W average. I would not really increase the voltage, I'd rather undervolt my APU. You will also get higher fps at lower temps so if you then overclock the APU (you should not make high jumps in frequency) you can get the same performance-if not better than when just increasing wattage. You maybe can combine these two things too (Idk).

Some OEMs completely lock down the bios and don't let you edit much. My partner has the HP x360 with the 4500u and the bios is crap where you can basically just change the date. I'm sure Dell is the same.

HP is infamous for limiting the options on their BIOS, whether laptops or desktop PCS and the reason for that is so you can have a longer battery life and better temps. Maybe Dell followed this same philosophy with your laptop, hence why you can't find any power-related options in its BIOS.

He did recommend a laptop cooler, the VRM's may not have heatsinks or have direct active cooling, but increasing pressure and airflow may help. MOSFETs can handle quite a bit of heat.

@@McKiwi2 yes they can but i`ve seen many without any heatsink on them , these new gaming laptops usualy have a bigger block of metal covering VRMs too, sadly the heat will go to the CPU too...the real problem is that i`m waiting for years now to see something similar to that awesome Intel undervolting soft but we still don`t have such for Ryzen laptops
@McKiwi2
@McKiwi2 2 жыл бұрын
@@himanologanor4093 I understand your concern, but the VRM's will throttle once they reach their thermal or electrical limit by default. For example, the 2019 Dell XPS line up suffered from VRM throttling when at high load due to the VRM design, at stock. Using this software might not really do anything for a laptop with a weak VRM spec, but I'm pretty certain it won't kill it. I'm not saying there aren't risks involved, when it comes to adjusting these things there's always a risk however small it may be.
