I'd say upping it to 20-25W is safer for daily use. This video shows that you can theoritically give 30W to those APU but you need a lot of cooling and also it can kill the VRM faster. Maybe if the app has an undervolt settings it will make it a lot more safer to push the CPU.

For best result: 1.Ram must be in dual channel. Also use fastest supported ram. Ryzen CPU and GPU are heavily dependen on ram speed than Intel. 2.reduce CPU usage to 95% from 100. There by reduce CPU temperature and will help iGPU to boost longer. 3.increase GPU wattage between 25-30. Use 30W if you have a cooler. Or at least lifet laptops back side by 1inch from table for a 10°C reduction. 4.Under volt CPU so,that you don't need cooler any more. 5.change CPU thermal paste. 6.Try to get debloated windows 10 or 11 light For better 1% low in games.Since most games run around 30fps.

On some laptops will have soldered RAM which makes it even more limited for what RAM you can use. Even if you have RAM with same size but with much faster speed, the system won't utilise the extra speed because dual-channel RAM requires the RAM to run at about the same speed as the internal RAM. Even worse, you can't use RAM with different size because the system won't run dual-channel on it.

I really hope this stuff works on the Steam Deck somehow atleast when plugged in
@dimitriid
@dimitriid 3 жыл бұрын
I think it will be doable, but don't expect Valve to do it: One of the news items about the steam deck is that Valve has gone on record saying they won't offer any performance uplift at all from "docking" the steam deck. This can only be attributed at the cooling solution constrains since we know power constrains wouldn't be an issue plugged in but heat would if the headsink can't handle it, and everything seems to point to that. I even expect Valve to not even enable the option on the bios by default so it will b e a fairly complicated process involving flashing the bios more likely, probably not worth it. Since those APUs on the steam deck will be on DDR5 and using RDNA 2 (vs DDR4 and Vega cores here) I would expect the performance to be similar to this laptop chips at 30 watts with the steam deck at just 15 watts: the gains on performance will make up for the reduced power limit so until it's actually out for testing I wouldn't worry too much.

AATU tutorial starts at 5:45 As of this writing, AATU has been superseded by Universal Tuning Utility. UTU overheated my Beelink SER5 Pro (R7 5800H) mini pc and I just set it to Balanced preset. I set it to start at system boot now it abruptly shuts down soonest the preset is auto applied. Update 1: I managed to close the app from the system tray before it applied the preset. I uninstalled it. Update 2: It disabled my network adapter. It fails with a Code 10 - This device cannot start. Update 3: I power cycled the mini pc by, shutting it down, disconnecting the power cable, holding the power button for 30s, and waiting for 10mins before reconnecting the cable then turning it back on. THAT WORKED. Proceed at your own risk. I would suggest to stay away from the new app and stick with Ryzen Controller 2.6.0 Stable.

there is also the "Ryzen Controller", i just set the gpu clock to 1000mhz (ryzen 5 3500u) and i set the processor utilization to max 99% so the cpu clock speed's don't go above 1700mhz, with that i don't need to increase the cpu tdp and the processor reach at max 65 degrees when gaming

There is an easer way to get into the BIOS as some computer boot too fast to press the F2 key in time. In Windows 8 and up, press and hold the left Shift key while clicking Restart on the Start menu and continue holding while it restarts. The computer will look like it's restarting then bring up a menu to Continue to Windows or Turn off your PC or Troubleshoot. Click Troubleshoot then Advanced options. Then click UEFI Firmware Settings and then Restart. Your computer will restart and go straight into the BIOS.

Most likely you can't, the APU TDP seems to be hardlocked/maxed out at 15W. Even if you can change it to, say, 30W it will likely burn out the hardware after a few months of usage due to overheating within that compact design.

Tried Using it on My HP Omen (Ryzen 7 5800H). I can boost TDP to ~65W (45W Stock) which results in a Performance Boost of ~400MHz under full load. The Problem is after a few seconds the CPU goes back to its rated TDP and performance drops. Any advice?

If I up the performance anymore my 4800h is going to catch fire. It averages 96 degrees, but it is on liquid metal, has larger holes for the fans, as well as alot of small headsinks added to absorb more heat... it used to throttle down, now its just at max speed for most of the time..

Tried the setting for 5900hs, up to 60 from 45 and it made no difference in timespy or rdr2. It actually made Halo completely crap out, went from 120+fps to 42... weird. I disabled it and now things run greet again, maybe this was too high? Anyways my 3060 seems to be the bottleneck on mine so it's not a big deal that it doesn't work.
@glsracer
@glsracer 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have not tried to run this on my G15 with 5900HS and 3070 because I can only get up to 100 watts on the GPU when the CPU is around 20 to 30 watts. I think the Asus software will shift up to 54 watts on the CPU in Turbo and that seems fine for the HS chip. I'm more interested in a new vBIOS for the GPU to get up to 130 watts. The GPU never gets about 68 or 70c, so I feel like Asus left a lot on the table with the 3070 (and probably 3060 G15 models).

Dude, I have the exact same laptop! 5 Benjamins on Prime Day. But I'm on BIOS version EECN30WW and EC Version EEEC20WW, which appear to be older versions than yours (and mine came with a 65W USB-C adapter, not a 45W barrel plug type). I get 32W average with no tuning, doing the same P95 Small FFTs torture test. Using the Pre-Made 4500U preset that goes *down* to 20W average, and using your custom preset it only hits 26W average. Thoughts?

@hardy83
@hardy83 3 жыл бұрын
Some OEMs completely lock down the bios and don't let you edit much. My partner has the HP x360 with the 4500u and the bios is crap where you can basically just change the date. I'm sure Dell is the same.
@krazycharlie
@krazycharlie 3 жыл бұрын
HP is infamous for limiting the options on their BIOS, whether laptops or desktop PCS and the reason for that is so you can have a longer battery life and better temps. Maybe Dell followed this same philosophy with your laptop, hence why you can't find any power-related options in its BIOS.

I would not really increase the voltage, I'd rather undervolt my APU. You will also get higher fps at lower temps so if you then overclock the APU (you should not make high jumps in frequency) you can get the same performance-if not better than when just increasing wattage. You maybe can combine these two things too (Idk).

Hey mate, thanks for the tutorial! I’m using Legion 7 and it’s a very powerful machine, but the thing is that I want to play Rust which is very CPU intensive game - even more, it’s relying a lot on a single core. Will this method help me to boost performance in-game? Important note: how much of temp increase we are looking here? When I play Rust after various fixes, I get about 80-90+ degress.
