In this video, we take look at the all-new NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX developer kit!
This little board is the big brother of the Jetson Nano and rightfully so!
With a 6-core NVIDIA Carmel ARM®v8.2 64-bit CPU backed by a 384-core NVIDIA Volta™ GPU with 48 Tensor Cores on paper this looks like a very capable machine.
In this video we unbox go over the specs test out some developer demos then move on to see how this thing handles everyday use and finally wrap it up with some Gamecube emulation using the Dolphin emulator!
Of course, this is a Raspberry Pi killer but its hard to compare the two because of the huge price difference.

This looks like what I imagine a mid-generation Switch refresh would look like. I mean put that in a box, slap Nintendo on it and it’s a consoleized upgraded switch. Those tensor cores could be used for DLSS which would be a great fit for the switches current library. Many devs complain about the switches lack of memory the most and the 8 gig here would really help.

I got so excited about the Jetson Nano that I bought 2 of them. It wasn't really as powerful as I expected, and power supply issues are a pain. This looks like it fixes everything that I didn't like with the Nano, but at a higher price. I got burned with the Nano though so while I'm tempted to buy this, I'm holding off.

13:08 the reason is KZbin delivers videos in 1440p and above in VP9 or AV1 only, which is purely caused by too big bandwidth impact on their side and infuriating for me as only relatively new PC hardware has hardware decoding support for VP9 (newer Intel and Nvidia GPUs only) and AV1 hardware decoding is nonexistent. So here I am with my Atom/Jaguar mini ITX HTPCs, that have no problem with decoding h264 content to my 4k TV, but can't work with KZbin...

I want the specs to have atleast The same as the N-Switch. You can infer that the choppiness on KZbin is caused by the same reason you get a crash on dolphin if you don't use fullscreen. It's an issue with the video driver implementation which makes a lot of sense for newer single board computers. With that fixed you can probably expect really good desktop, web browsing and media performance. (After all it's a $399 computing product with rather decent specs.)

if you are getting above 80% on all your cpu cores while playing video, then you don't have any gpu accelerated video playback. so something is wrong there. Great review! About the video decoding experience, both the browser and the standalone player were using the CPU, which is not using the board’s potential. You can't access 4k with h264ify because youtube only stores h264 videos at 1080p or below, since it'd waste too much space on higher resolutions. Also, hardware acceleration on xorg in firefox is being worked on. You could use wayland to get hardware acceleration, but not with nvidia.

60FPS for webGL test using aquarium with 500 fish is not that impressive. A Raspberry pi 4 2Gb OC'd at 2.147 Ghz and 850Mhz for GPU, gets 26FPS at same resolution under chromium w/500 fish. Xavier NX for webGL apps/games is only 2.2X faster than Rpi 4 2Gb and yet it costs 11.4X more. I expect more of this card.

Big brother to Jetson Nano is the Jetson TX1 which is based on Tegra X1. Xavier NX is based on Tegra Xavier SoC which is newer and much more powerful. Would gladly buy this board if it was cheaper and not so AI-oriented. @12:52 Chrome still can't do hardware video decoding under Linux. Even if it could, this board can't decode VP9 which Google loves to use for 4K videos. Even Tegra Xavier is not powerful enough to decode 4K in software alone. Kodi is also doing software decoding because it does not support NVDEC which Nvidia uses in Xavier SoC. VLC Player should have NVDEC support for hardware decoding, not sure if it's enabled in the ARM build though.

yea.. it's so 'powerfull' that my old Radeon RX 570 is almost 4x times faster. :-DDD And this price... it cheaper to buy 3 graphic cars similar to RX 570, mainboard, cpu and ram, than 2 Jeston Xavier NX. With 3 graphics u get almost 6x times faster gpu computing power. Yea.. I can understand, that is rly fast if we wanna get nano computing power. But to be honest.. what for this kind of computer is now? It's v. expensive and isn't so fast after all. It's a matter of time when AMD will release similar solution for nano computing. Then we can compare and choose better platform for future usage.

However, I accidentally (I was to stupid to read that the SD need to be plugged in all the time) removed the SD and reboot. Only black screen, nothing happend, no boot, nothing. I inserted the SD card again, power on, nothing happend, only black screen. I even removed the SSD, flashed a new SD card and inserted it. Nothing is happening, only black screen. It seems that the Xavier NX is dead. Any suggestions how to fix it??? Appreciate your help.

The specs claim it can decode two 4k60 videos at once but it isn't capable of fully decoding even one probably because its doing in software, and it definitely is due to the high CPU usage. If you could make it decode in hardware (which is next to impossible in Linux ) then it should be able to play smoothly and use less than 10% cpu on each core.My old Pentium 4 with HT couldn't even draw a full frame of 1080i video with 100% cpu and onboard graphics but when i added a graphics card it did full 1080i60 with less than 5% cpu in Windows Vista but not in Linux.

It would make a nice smart-home brain that could also double as an Nvidia Shield with even more power, should the software development allow this. Have one system running your security cameras and making smart decisions on whether to record (Ignore branches waving in the breeze, or a wandering cat, but human/potential burglar? Send an immediate alert and record.) as well as using BERT to control your home lights and A/C, but at the same time be able to USE said device that you just spent all that money on for entertainment as well, simply by hooking it up to a TV. Just a thought, but at that point, being able to basically pay $100 more than a Shield Pro and get that much more power AND those capabilities being a potential? It is expensive, but compared to that? I'd say it's pretty on-point, unfortunately. (I personally wish it were about the same price, rather than more than the Shield, since it's a bare-bones dev kit and all.) Thanks for the awesome video! I can't wait to see where dev goes on this bad boy while I save up to buy one, haha.

Looks awesome but this isnt an sbc . I didnt know part of the computer is underneath the heat sink which slots into the minboard. I feel its a bit deceptive . The sbc market is highly competitive and it would be unfair to hide this fact and still be held to the sbc standard as well as competing with other sbc's. Does anyone else feel me on this i dont think im judging to harsh or being picky i mean it wouldn't keep me from buying it. Im only stating that it should not be marketed as an sbc nor compete with them directly. Kinda similar to boxing weight classes. Let me know what ya think on thi one.
