For wasps, always run north. Then turn around and use the net. If you don't have your net equip, get it from the big inventory (not the tool ring) this will pause the wasps and turn you in the correct direction to swing at the wasps. That's the easiest way to deal with them if you don't have a house to duck into or you have another tool in hand.
