It's been a great chip. Happily runs along at 35-40 degrees C idle (although the CPU spikes a lot in temp and that is normal) with a cooler master hyper 212+ for over 5 years now with roughly yearly maintenance if that. To be fair, my old Ryzen 2200g still makes for a surprisingly thriifty little chip to this day running windows 11 on my parents barebones PC. Ryzen products overall have proven themselves vey reliable. Any future gaming PC will be centred out a TV so I foresee myself using this chip at my desk PC for the next 5 years at least.

And even some alpha and beta games im testing. Not to mention using Blender for 3d modeling things to be printed and learning Unreal Engine. I probably wont need to upgrade for another 3 years at least based on this data cuz a true performance uplift would require me to switch to a new socket or find the last am4 r7 at ~$250, which is still an unlikely monetary choice for me personally.

@02:50 Given that we know that the driver overhead for the CPU is increasingly large for larger GPUs, was the 4090 really the best choice for these older CPUs? Not saying that it invalidates the results but it would have been good to do a sanity check first? e.g. performance scaling in 2-3 well-profiled games using several graphics cards to see if there's any curve/drop-off. Hardware unboxed had a video about this a few years ago and showed how these old CPUs were negatively affected by Nvidia's driver overhead.

Please more tests around mid builds. For example, it is possible to decide avg FPS you want and then look what monitor/resolution are good for that. Mostly people have 120Hz-144Hz monitors, so what reason to run for higher FPS than that? To make a summary what I am missing on YT channels - vid, that will make reasonable builds recommendation for around 130 FPS for two scenarios - 1080p and 1440p.

Slapped a solid OC to 4.8Ghz achieved out of it on the Aio with some liquid metal. Found a cheap 1660 Ti ROX strix version with a 2080Ti cooler on it. I dunno but sliders all go to the right without a problem. max clocks all day! All I can say is I'm actually surprised how well it games on a 1080p 72hz monitor. It's got a super solid frametime. Flat as a heart monitor on a skeleton. its been going like this for 4 years now with the primary bios chip failing and would you know back in the day ASUS sent boards with an extra bios chip incase you fried the original.
