The fact that most of the cinekills allude to the champions' original deaths in some way is... actually quite surprising.

Cinekill: Killed by a bomb exploding inside his body. *Slash.* Original death: Killed by lapidation, being pelted to death with stones. Cinekill: Turned into one big stone. *Trident.* Original death: Crushed under a pillar rigged to collapse. Cinekill: Crushed under the Dark Champion's foot. *Midknight.* Original death: Died a vampire's death with a stake through the heart. Cinekill: Died a vampire's death by exposure to direct sunlight. *RAX.* Original death: Died when a computer virus destroyed his cybernetics. Cinekill: Died when _physiological rejection_ destroyed his cybernetics, EWWW! *Ramses III.* Original death: Fell into water and drowned. Cinekill: Turned into water. I think the rest of the Cinekills are meant to be ironic in regards to details about the fighter's life or appearance, though. *Blade.* Life: He's a pretty big dude. Cinekill: The Dark Champion makes him tiny and squishes him. *Jetta.* Life: Wore colorful ribbons as part of her acrobat costume (and hangs herself or other people with them). Cinekill: Gets lifted up and somehow shredded by those ribbons. *Shadow.* Life: Carried shuriken and used them as an assassin. Cinekill: Killed by a barrage of shuriken. *Xavier.* Life: Sought to unlock the world's secrets through alchemy. Cinekill: Is given all the power in the world, but it's too much for him to handle, so he implodes. *Dawson.* Life: Carried firearms but refused to use them. Cinekill: Gunned down by the Dark Champion's "finger gun". *Raven.* Life: Had a huge tattoo of a snake (one of Voodoo's creatures of power) all up and down her leg. Cinekill: The snake comes alive and kills her. *Riptide.* Life: Was a privateer and a seafarer. Cinekill: Killed by a kraken...or something...maybe. I'm unsure about this one. All in all, the Cinekills are all a bit heavy with the irony, aren't they? :-)

@@BloodyBay Riptide's is easily the "weakest" in terms of uniquity of the bunch. the Dark Champion basically makes some giant roots, which wrap around her... and snap her neck. I guess the allusion could be to hiding her treasure on an island?? idk. That one's always felt too... simplistic.

Michael Latham had a team working on a spiritual successor: Eternal Successors, even when they didn't have the green from Sega. They were determined to make it true, even if they couldn't use the original characters. Sadly, there weren't any updates on the project after the first three mockups were made with Unreal Engine 4, and Michael passed away in 2021. The only hope is a fan-made game. I was thinking of a remake in an Arc System Works style, but maybe a 3D aesthetic could be a good approach too. What do you guys think?

Um, no they're not. All of the secret characters are good. Thanatos even has a connections to both Xavier and Hooter and the Eternal rescues him from certain death in his ending. Blast was double crossed by his copilot who was a double agent working for the Vietnamese and his helicopter was blown up with Blast still inside. Senator's death was more of a joke than to be taken seriously. However, his ending reveals he changes his ways and becomes less corrupt. The animals all suffered noble deaths

@@johnnywalker7961 I'd absolutely buy a MK vs EC crossover. I bet if they made this game it would sell like fuckin crazy!! So many people have fond memories of EC. Loved the atmosphere of that game, so dark and ominous. The controls weren't the tightest, and you 100% HAD to have the 6 button controller to even think about playing this game, well if you wanted to win anyways. I've been hoping they eventually revive this series, even just a remaster of EC: Challenge from the Dark Side. I think they could pull off a brand new game though . Doesn't even have to be 3D, just like SF is still 2D just with more modern artwork and fighter models.

Still one of the most character unique movesets of ANY fighting game EVER made. Playing with Raven(voodoo doll, fighting time clock manipulation, black hole), Xavier (character swap spell, opponent control confusion spell, swap places and get hit by the projectile you just fired at me spell), trident’s various force fields, Ramses’ various Animal moves, Senator’s ability to veto your special moves or make you stand in one place… I could go on and on. I wish they would remake or at least remaster this game.

I believe Blast’s Cinekill would’ve had one of the three options. Option 1: Impaled to death by Punji Spikes Option 2: Blown up by a grenade with it’s pin off. Option 3: Is covered in napalm, which gives him so much unbearable, severely intense pain that it kills him as it burns off his skin, hair, clothes, muscles and organs as well as his bones as Blast succumbs to death by asphyxiation.

Depends. It's pretty much one of those games you'll have to play to figure out if you like it or not. Some people like it other don't. Pros include a large roster of characters (including characters that can be unlocked by secret methods or by cheats as an alternative.), a really well written story that has to do with the balance between good and evil and quantum metaphysics, and gory fatalities (well aside from the Cinekills above, which are pretty tame by comparison.) cons include stiff controls, high learning curve for new players (hell I'm still learning and I've been playing off and on since 2009), potential infinite combos, and a dickish AI that only gets worse as you raise the difficulty. And no, sadly the game hasn't been rereleased yet and probably never will be because Sega refuses to port or emulate any games for Sega CD other than Sonic games.. Now the first game in the series for Genesis/Mega Drive has been released for several consoles via an emulated title. Among them are the Wii virtual console. The first game isn't nearly as violent and has fewer characters, it's also harder as it only has one difficulty for Contest mode. in Other words, the learning curve is even steeper. If you have any more questions about the game, let me know and I'll try and answer them.

No, i had a website up in 97 and did an interview with the creator of ec. At the end after beating the eternal and dark champion a sorta of cinekill animation is unlocked and actual shadows of the ec3 characters are revealed, unfortunately the ec crew had a falling out and despite an online petition and magazines suggesting an ec3 on i believe dreamcast, ec3 became a discontinued idea. A film maker even wanted to create an ec movie sorta like the mortal kombat films to help revive it, but it was lost as well. Its a shame, i love eternal champions

I actually agree with you. They're not the only finishers in this game but they're the only ones that make use of the Sega CD's FMV feature in the game. Something also interesting to note is that there's very little color loss in this game's FMVs. (which is something that happened in most other Sega CD games with FMVs) as for the other fatality types in this game, they are typical sprite based fatalities. Those are far more graphic though. (there's Overkills, Vendettas, and Sudden Deaths)
