I think the ending is way more profound than that. It's not about having another chance, though that is one of the many meanings =) 1) They have evidence that their relationship will not work, and it will sour, but they go ahead with it anyway. That is a depiction of not only faith (which often flies in the face of evidence) but 2) a nice touch that even if you know something is not going to last, doesn't mean it can't be worth it nonetheless. 3) It can also be that emotions/desire triumphs logic, for good or bad. 4) just like Kirsten Dunst in the movie, if people erased all memories of their mistakes, they might still inevitably repeat them. And so no matter how painful a mistake/memory may be, the lesson you learn from it is invaluable and, often not always, prevents you from making it again
