An epidural generally doesn’t “paralyze” you and that’s not the aim for labor pain relief (but you can make it more dense for a c section if needed). A spinal, what Steve-o had done (I saw his show live so I’ve seen the video), will provide a dense motor and sensory block (ie paralyze you) for a few hours. You actually want it higher than the diaphragm for many procedures, including c sections. Above the nipple line can cause some issues and up into the cervical spine is when it gets scary high (but this doesn’t happen often at all when done by an anesthesiologist). A spinal goes into the sac with the spinal cord but below the cord and into the spinal fluid whereas an epidural is outside that space in the epidural space. Steve-o has one other stunt in the special involving anesthetics which I enjoyed being an anesthesiologist.
@Meggyx11 ай бұрын
Yeah I was wondering what he was talking about when he said an epidural paralyzes you! I had an epidural and during my labour I was able to still move my legs around and after my labour I was able to stand up and walk around. My legs just felt a bit like jelly
@Triekki11 ай бұрын
@@Meggyx That's the aim! Decades ago they used stronger concentrations of freezing medicine that blocked the motor nerves (ones that work on muscles) along with the sensory (pain) nerves. Ideally we just get the pain guys and freeze the others minimally. I did see a patient after surgery recently who got very frozen and was essentially paralyzed until the epidural was turned off. She had gotten a big dose of a medium concentration freezing medicine though.

It blows my mind how fast Ethan gets in to see doctors and specialists and how fast he can get testing done. I live on the east coast, and it literally takes 3 months to a year to get in to see a specialist or to get in to see certain people to do testing. I've been dealing with pretty severe health issues for a few years now and it's impossible to see doctors. They're schedules are completely full. I've seen so many doctors for fibromyalgia which I wait 3+ months to see each one and the all say they can't help me. Same with a spinal disorder i have, doctors can't do anything for the pain. And I'm suspected of having another rare condition that my state doesn't even deal with, so i have to wait over a year to be accepted into an out of state hospital. The other hospitals in the area even said, "sorry we don't take referrals from out of state". But what the hell is someone supposed to do if their state doesn't deal with their disease? Just suffer? Makes me wish i lived in Cali if they just have an over excess of doctors with tons of free time there.
@derrickcarbona924511 ай бұрын
Money.......simply money, and fame. Insurances have to Okay procedures so Dr.s will easily help those with money cause they will get money immediately and guaranteed. Someone with insurance might have their insurance decline a medicine or procedure or even a visit especially if you have had others that month and the fact that you have to go to specialists and have like 4 different appointments to find out one thing they tend to be stingy.
@maddiemalacopa11 ай бұрын
They don’t. I have medical ( free healthcare for ppl waaaaay below poverty in CA) and get to see drs for the first time for all my chronic debilitating conditions and I’m waiting 6 months to see one of many necessary specialists / months to get prescriptions it sucks. I can’t even imagine how long I’d have to wait for surgeries. It’s prob just different for Ethan bc he’s rich. Good luck w everything 🤍

Masks work and help reduce the spreading of viruses and "germs." Also Dr. Drew sucks lol

I really resonated with some what Steve-O said about anxiety. It’s terrible to deal with, but I’ve found that it helps me at work. I’m an ICU nurse and my anxiety makes me extra thorough and diligent in my assessments and monitoring so that I notice very slight changes in my patients. It has helped me prevent things from escalating by catching them early. Obviously there’s a line where the anxiety becomes unhealthy (like when my heart rate is jumping up), but I take my daily Zoloft to try to help keep it under control. It’s funny how at work, my anxiety projects to worry about sick people’s well being, but at home I could start having a panic attack over nothing 😂 I love compartmentalization.
