The problem I see is that we've gone beyond just trying to find solutions to problems. We've turned our STANCES on those problems into a group identity. Things like pro-life or pro-choice rarely seems to be about trying to figure the actual issue (the issues being: what's the cut-off point during fetal development when abortion becomes unethical, logistics for providing abortion clinic access, what situations should unconditionally accepted such as r*pe and medical reasons, and who should pay for all this). Instead, we bundle all these ideas into two watered-down stances. "I'm pro-choice" or "I'm pro-life". Hell, these reductionist stances are even badges on dating profiles. When a person takes a leap and simply incorporates the conclusion into their personal identity, things get even weirder. No longer do they try to work out the issue that's an external issue (granted, one that may affect them at some point), instead, they defend the conclusion using whatever justification necessary. It becomes, to that person, a self-evident moral truth. When you start poking holes in just one part of that multi-faceted topic, it's perceived as attacking their character, their identity. The worst part is that this process happens on both the left and the right, but both sides seem to think it doesn't happen THEIR side. My conservative mother literally cannot accept a fair criticism of the republican party. I can't bring up criticisms towards certain woke ideologies with my liberal friends, because they see no problems with that ideology going all-the-way to it's conclusion. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills being surrounded by political-fanatics that don't see how much they've drank the koolaid. The solution is to somehow train people to not take politics so personally. Take political issues as what they actually are: an issue that needs figuring out. Figuring stuff out requires brainstorming, questioning whether the status quo is acceptable or not, and testing whether unorthodox solutions are crazy or actually sane. But I'm just a lowly US citizen that's trying to figure out if the happy childhood I had will still be possible for my future kids. So what do I know?

If anyone ever tells you that the “situation is too complex” for them to explain it to you, it isn’t because they truly think you’re too stupid to understand it, it’s because they actually don’t understand enough of the subject to explain it fully to anyone. That's the challenge with some KZbin creators and any hivemind fan community. When you rely on a united fanbase, you'll face backlash if your views diverge from the collective opinion of your followers. Many content creators, particularly on KZbin, depend on their fanbase for income and find themselves constrained by the need to align with their audience's beliefs. The same dynamic can apply to political circles, where individuals may feel pressured to either fully agree with everything or completely disagree based on political party.

Dan saying businesses are totalitarian just shows how little he knows and thinks. Companies are started off of capital, and if you have to have investors to gain that capital then there you have a board of investors that can make changes. This is how people get thrown out of their own company like Steve Jobs. Yes they own it and get a massive say, but there’s still a board that takes votes on stuff.

Preach wasn’t petty. He just wasn’t sympathetic to Ethan getting devoured by the audience he created.
@teecakes Жыл бұрын
Preach was preaching about 'rules for thee, not for me' now that Ethan has faced a similar political-spectrum inquiry he feels is an unfair representation Ethan only now sees the dangers of being reactionary, tribalist, and making enemies out of potential allies who believe a lot of the same things-- yet on one issue you may have a disagreement. I have several friends who I disagree with but enjoy debating, we don't have to demonize 'them' out to destroy 'us' using cancel-laden-labels like 'homophobe', 'misogynist', 'groomer' (unless actually a groomer, but plz stop throwing that word around unless it's a serious accusation) the second we don't think exactly alike. Now, his audience who have been trained to be reactionary and are more socialist-leaning than Ethan seems to be, will do what they will do-- is what Preach is saying here.
@Spahki Жыл бұрын
Ethan Klein once again realising he's cultivated an audience that'll eat him alive the moment he disagrees. Him and Hasan are in a pool of sharks and Hasan's trying not to make them mad, but Ethan keeps bouncing off the walls and jumping in front of the sharks' friggin laser beams.
@nope5657 Жыл бұрын
Lets be real here, EVERY prominent content creator has an audience that will turn on them for any perceived split in ideology. This is hardly some Ethan-specific L dude.
@Spahki Жыл бұрын
@@nope5657 I doubt it. Most people aren't ideologically bent or politically active. Creators attract and repel certain types of people based on their content - Instagram girls attract horny dudes, gamers attract fellow gamers, and Hasan and Ethan attract angry mobs of Socialist pirhanas who go into a frenzy the moment a "not left enough" opinion hits the water.

@jasonfurumetarualkemisto5917 Жыл бұрын
@@nope5657 Not really, some people cultivate rational audiences. Those where they are a few crazies sure, but if the content creators reason for disagreement is logical or at least sincere they wouldn't care and just consider it business as usual. However, being an asshole or hypocrite to your audience is a whole different ballgame than disagreeing. As for Ethan Specific Ls, well, he just found out a lot of his audience hates Israel and wants Hamas to level it to the ground (I'm not exaggeration or picking a side, just saying what they where saying). Ethan had the biggest shock of his life realising he cultivated an Antisemitic audience,...... while being Jewish, with an Israeli wife.

@@TurtleChad1Actually it would be worse then Ukraine, because Russia and Ukraine share a border it’s easier to invade/repel. China would have to do an amphibious assault, and that would probably lead to at least 6 digit casualties. Especially if Japan, Vietnam, Philippines and the Korea’s get involved.

I agree that his audience shouldn't behave like that, but I still think he got what he deserved. He made this monster of an audience and monetized it, now it turned on him. He made his bed, and now he has to lie in it.

Yeah I'm with Preach on this one. Some people aren't persuaded by rational discourse (whether or not the position is correct), only the consequences of their actions. The only way Ethan will grow is to go through the ringer. We wish him well, but he deserves this. We'd be doing him a disservice by shielding him from the monster he created.

I completely avoid talking about political discussions with friends and family, but I also removed myself from politics completely. I’m American but I’m neither republican or democrat. The 2020 election really affected my mental health and worrying about who should I trust in life. It’s really sad where we live in a world where a friend would no longer be friends with you if he or she found out you were a fan of trump. I’m friends with people who are from both sides and I think it’s stupid to no longer to be friends with someone just based off of your political values. If you are into political discussions it’s best to keep your opinions and values to yourself if you wanna keep your friends and families.
