I was shocked at her ability to change range, tonality, and pitch effortlessly when I saw her live this summer. This is a nice recording but it doesn't do her talent justice. I think she has a bit of a cold here possibly because her range switches so fast and clearly, usually, that one can speculate there might be a small throat strain in this recording. It's no less beautiful to be clear though. It is something of a wonder she's able to stay in stride with that much emotion. She is indeed a gift for we who are able to enjoy these moments. Thanks for commenting. I enjoyed a great deal of this thread. Much Love, Chad

@@cageragepodcast2795 yes completely! i saw her in AZ about a month ago now, and had the same expierence. literally no tonal difference from the recordings of the songs she played. if anything she took a few riffs further than she does in the studio versions! and yeah i see what you're saying -- i figured she was probably a bit nervous. but like you said, still incredibly impressive! thank you for your reply :) i don't get to indulge in paragraphs long ethel cain convos a lot, so this was nice haha!

"I'm looking for a substitute for the overdone trite thing" by lrj You are not who you're suppose to be. You are not like the rest - You're different. You seem to have the ability to survive - on your own. I think that's what I like about you. she smiled; her eyes burning bright like the celestial bodies of the cloudless night. You are so very different from anyone I've met You carry on happily, solemnly without regret You bow to none - having none of rank You pass along quietly as a river its' bank You are not silent - though your quiet deceives You are one alone, you do as you please. I think that's what I like about you she smiled; her cheeks blooming rose like after the first warm rains end the mem'ry of snows. You are not who you're suppose to be You are not like the rest, but like infinity You are not like the rest only restlessness ever You won't be tied down - and committed - Oh! Never! You won't be persuaded, you either do or you don't You won't go gently into that good night, Oh, no! You won't I think - that's what I like about you. She smiled; her brow furrowed slight like a rippling breeze over water in the moon - light. You are not who you're suppose to be You are everything that contradicts me You seem to have the ability to survive on your own I think that is why I must break you bone from bone.

THE LAST TEMPTATION I am constantly crusading against myself because the thought of you breaking your own covenant just is inconceivable Morals and values one has don't change overnight They're burning into your being they bring justice to one's life So I go on and re-read your bible since its etched into my memory, a substance more unto everlasting than stone and go over the commandments Did I break a vow What sin did I commit Or was it that I committed myself to you not to your beliefs I placed a god before your god but this temple had no thieves This holy war just has too many holes, too many prayers, too many questions all unanswered Still I need some proof, something tangible to end this campaign against my self because I'm sacrificing myself to this shrine of songs, movies, books, authors, artists, sounds, foods, drinks, places, and automobiles that I have erected in my mind not knowing it was consecrated until you became idle. by LRJ

Psalms 77:18 “The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind, BARACK lit up the whole world. The Earth shall tremble in agitation, shake.” Psalms 77:16-20 “The waters shall see Elohim, the waters shall see a whirling in the depth, yea, tremble in agitation. The clouds shall pour forth the waters, the skies shall give forth a voice, arrows shall flash. The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind, BARACK lit up the whole world. The Earth shall tremble in agitation, shake. The traveling was of the sea, the path in the mighty waters, and your footprint shall be known. You led your people as a flock, your hands, Moses and Aaron.” Psalms 97:4 “BARACK lit up the whole world, the Earth, see it tremble.” Psalms 97:1-6 “YAHWEH reigns on the Earth so rejoice, many lands shall rejoice in the clouds, a mass surrounded in righteousness, the judgment shall fall on the foundations, for His throne. Fire comes before to consume the adversaries round about. BARACK lit up the whole world, the Earth, see it tremble. The mountain melted like wax before the face of YAHWEH, before the face of YAHWEH, all the Earth. For the heavens declare His righteousness, all the peoples see His glory.” Job 20:25-29 “Draw out and go through the back, BARACK shall remove all strength, a dreadful overcoming shall flow forth. All is darkness, the reserve he has stored it up, an unfanned fire will devour consuming the survivor in his tent. The heavens shall reveal his iniquity and the Earth will rise up. The increase of his house will desist downward the run forth, the day of his anger. This wickedness of man is the portion of gods, and the inheritance decreed by the Word of God.” Job 38:35-36 “Can you send BARACK, and make him go and say, “Behold who pierced wisdom in the inward parts to run forth,” also given understanding to the appearing.” Isaiah 14:14 "ALLAH OBAMA ab (in dark outer garment) dama (I will become) elyown (the god over all things)." Isaiah 27:1 “In that day YAHWEH will punish the beast of the sea, BARACK, a serpent. The fierce and great and mighty sword ALLAH, the beast of the sea, crooked, a serpent, and He will kill it, the Dragon, ASSHUR, of the sea.” Isaiah 30:30-33 "YAHWEH the voice of authority, and listen BARACK, for the strength shall be seen as rage in the nostrils and flames shall consume with fire storm in a downpour, the voice of YAHWEH. Asshur will be terrified. He shall strike with the rod. All shall be hit with the rod of punishment, Asshur. YAHWEH will rest at the sound and work in battle, for the wave offering of the battle is a burning of flesh long set in order. Moreover the firm King shall cut deep and large at the pyre in fire and shall stand breathing. YAHWEH shall whirlwind the fire and the brimstone shall ensure all is consumed.” Psalms 18:13-15 says, "Yahweh thundered from heaven, and Allah uttered his voice, hail of ember and fire, and he sent out arrows, BARACK had an abundance, confused, the channels of the sea appeared the foundations of the world laid bare, by the rebuke of Yahweh at the breath of His nostrils." 2 Samuel 22:14-16 says, "Yahweh thundered from heaven, and Allah uttered his voice, and he sent out arrows and BARACK was confused, the channels of the sea appeared the foundation of the world laid bare, by the rebuke of Yahweh at the breath of His nostrils." Zechariah 9:14 "Yahweh shall appear over the arrows coming from BARACK. For the Lord, Yahweh, will blow the trumpet, and they will march into the storms of the South." Daniel 10:6 “His body was tan, his face the appearance of Barack, and eyes a consumed shine; his legs and feet to the eye a burnished bronze, and the sound of his voice where like words given to a multitude.” Nahum 3:3 “horsemen lift up the sword, and blade pierces Barack, the multitude is slain, and the mass of corpses is innumerable dead bodies, and they stumble over the dead.” Psalms 144:4-6 “Adam was like unto vapor, for his days were in shadow and culminated. The reach was the heavens for YAHWEH and yet he descended touching the mountain and it smoked. The flash of BARACK dispersed sending forth arrows (nuclear weapons) with noise." Luke 10:18 "I saw SATAN as BARACK OBAMA." Matthew 24:27-28 "For as BARACK cometh out of the East and shineth even so far as the West so shall it be at the coming of the Son of man, for wherever the bodies lie so too an EAGLE IN UNION." Revelation 16:17-19 “For even the seventh was poured, a bowl into the air, great voice came out of the temple from the throne saying, “DONE.” BARACK voiced thunder great, shaking of a manner as never had been from the time man had come into being on Earth, this person was of great lineage, great earthquake like unto this. The great city split into three parts, a city of nations fell, Babylon great was remembered in the sight of God, to give her the cup of wine, PASSION for wrath."

She would be a dream to work with in the regard. I'm not big into live music because it just rarely sounds as good as the studio recording for me, but damn this is just as good as that studio versions.

She is a legit songwriter. Period. She also has a lot of very diverse stuff out there. For instance....she has a 4 song EP of like...her take on trap music. Seriously. And it's one of my favorite things she's ever put out. She's meant to become a star....in whatever form that may be. But her music deserves to be heard by a lot of people.

The music hit me in a way that Tori Amos's seminal album (Little Earthquakes) did. The effect was immediate and profound. I wonder if they listen to each other's music. I read that two of her influences are Christian music and Gregorian chant. Brilliant! I never expected those two influences from anyone, but upon listening to more of her music, it makes sense. I hope she has a long and satisfying career!

Honestly I’m just so happy to be here. Hayden released one of the best albums to date and, in my opinion, album of the year for 2022. It was an honor to see all four of these songs live in Gainesville this summer & an even bigger honor to now have the KEXP version of them!! Ethel Cain, please never stop song writing & recording! Much love from florida

The way she is bridging the gap between pop and something more... She has done the unimaginable. People who have never heard of Sybille Baier, Melanie, Karen Dalton, even Joni Mitchell, who are discovering those artists through her bridge, it's phenomenal.
