You are so well spoken and observant!! She has cited late 19th-early 20th century culture as well as Southern Gothic and Christian literature as a huge influence on her art so many times! “Ethel Cain” is actually a stage name and a character she created for her concept album “Preacher’s Daughter”, which is seriously one of the most haunting and beautiful albums I’ve heard in my life, she manages to incorporate so many different sounds and genres yet somehow keeps it feeling so coherent and fluid. I’d recommend listening to the album in order, but there’s really no written rules, if you just want to explore her art further, I think you’d love her songs “A House in Nebraska” and “Ptolemaea”❤️🫶

So good. Ethel Cain (Hayden) is a artistic force. I’m genuinely in awe with her brain and the art she makes. it’s far beyond just the music. it’s intense, raw, and soooo powerful. Hayden has said time and time again music has never been the end game. she wants to be a film maker. and I just know one day she’s going to make something so magical. You are also so insightful and your commentary is exactly what I want to hear when people find Ethel. I appreciate it. definitely check out some more of her stuff! you can’t go wrong with anything of hers.

That makes so much sense hearing she wants to be a filmmaker. This video is just incredibly haunting and beautiful and requires a certain kind of mind to create. I wonder if she would make a full length film about Ethel Cain? That would be amazing.

mid-18th century is just her aesthetic, lol. Seriously though, liked this reaction, but if this is your first Ethel Cain song, you're kinda dropping yourself into the deep end. Maybe try "Crush," "Knuckle Velvet," "Inbred," "Family Tree," or "sun bleached flies."
